2. Cap's battle strategy focused on containment and keeping civilians out of the line of fire. Thor bottlenecks the portal, slowing down the Chitauri's progress. Hawkeye keeps track of where the Chitauri are heading and informs the other Avengers, as well as picking off high-priority targets. Cap, Black Widow, and the NYPD focus on getting civilians to safety. And Hulk keeps the heat off everyone else by bouncing around and crushing every alien in his path. The battle only goes south once the Chitauri pin down the Hulk, enabling the Chitauri to concentrate the rest of their firepower on the other Avengers.
