Remember this is the company that wants to tell us the Hulk never actually killed anyone during his rampages.

More believable than the company that wants to tell us that humans would erect a statue in honor of an alien whose arrival resulted in millions of deaths.
>>
>>81440059
Should have been 616 people.
>>
I'm really hoping that "74" is part of a running count that keeps climbing higher as Ross's video runs, and that Wanda's reaction and Steve's "okay, that's enough" are in response to a much bigger number. It would make the scene a lot more uncomfortable for Wanda and really make Ross and Tony's side have a point.
>>
>>81440059

There was an entire team of superheroes saving lives. Literally the whole point of the movie.

Mind you, they fucked up Smallville pretty well, but the destruction in Metropolis was fairly contained to maybe a couple of blocks during the Zod fight.

It's probably only 74 casualties directly related to the Avengers, like people the Hulk accidentally smashed when jumping from building to building, or people crushed by the giant snake that Tony brought down.

The "Okay, that's enough" is most likely gonna be said in reference to Sokovia, since regardless of casualty count, watching the destruction of her home is rough.

yeah, a couple blocks here, a couple blocks there, some blocks over on the other side of the city, and a couple blocks downtown.
>>
>>81440059
That's because of two reasons:

1. Loki and the Chitauri's main goal wasn't "kill all humans". It was more "shock and awe". Essentially, his plan was to make a grand show of an alien invasion in order to make humanity kneel before Zod-I mean Loki. And Stark himself points out to him that it was a crappy plan, doomed to end with Loki getting a red-ass beatdown regardless of whether or not the Avengers lose.

2. Cap's battle strategy focused on containment and keeping civilians out of the line of fire. Thor bottlenecks the portal, slowing down the Chitauri's progress. Iron Man keeps them from flying far enough away from Stark Tower for them to be contained by the remaining Avengers. Hawkeye keeps track of where the Chitauri are heading and informs the other Avengers, as well as picking off high-priority targets. Cap, Black Widow, and the NYPD focus on getting civilians to safety. And Hulk keeps the heat off everyone else by bouncing around and crushing every alien in his path. The battle only goes south once the Chitauri pin down the Hulk, enabling the Chitauri to concentrate the rest of their firepower on the other Avengers.

>The destruction of Man of Steel was contained to ~8-10 city blocks
Wasn't the WTC something like ~10 average city blocks in NYC? And that wasn't caused by fucking aliens with a terraforming machine.

I don't even have many problems with MOS, yet the backtracking and damage control with BvS is just straight up retarded. There's no fucking way the crater we see in the movie is only that size. And don't get me started on the THREE times they have to mention during the Doomsday fight, ah it's cool there's no one in that area of the city right now. How the fuck are there so many places without people in a metropolitan area of the nation's two largest cities, literally 10 miles apart from each other?

eh I enjoyed avengers and I even really enjoyed age of ultron unlike most around here but even i thought that lowball number was dumb.

I feel like it was a poor knee jerk reaction to the negativity of snyder 9/11 porn when they honestly didn't need to downplay it. The one thing cool about both the avengers movies is the avengers don't just fight bad guys they help bystanders. You can have a death toll that would make sense given the situation as long as you show you super heroes being heroic some times.
It was a dumb reaction that just was not needed and now it makes it look kinda silly.
>>
>>81447063
In BvS downtown was evacuated as soon as trouble started, but they said that the harbour was no longer in use.
>>
>>81447253

I just don't understand why you all seem to think 74 is a low number. It isn't in real life.
>>
>>81447187
You realize religion stems from ancient superstitious beliefs that were born in a world without anywhere near the scientific understanding of the universe we live in that we have today right?

If superman appeared a two thousand, or one thousand, or even 800 years ago him being very quickly revered as a god and having homage paid to him would make sense. But he arrived in this our modern age where people had a full understanding he wasn't a glorious being on high of absolutely incomprehensible origins. He was a being like them from another world who was able to simply do things they could not do. And the result of his coming was (in their eyes) a huge death toll.
I think them not building a statue in that case makes a little more sense.
>>
>>81447304
writers have no sense of scale.
since hardly anyone watches the news, we're used to seeing death tolls range from a couple hundred to over a thousand in fiction. It's like how 9/11 looks fake if your only knowledge of what a plane crashing into a building should like comes from action blockbusters
>>
>>81447147
For an alien invasion of Manhattan that's pretty low, more so when you have giant flying creatures.

Fucking hell Boko Haram has a higher number then that when they raid some random village in Nigeria.
>>
>>81440715
Where the hell did you get millions from?
>>
>>81447269
Wouldn't there be immense amounts of gridlock in two cities like Metropolis/Gotham because of their proximity? How would you be able to get people out of the core in the couple of hours at most before Doomsday wrecked the shit out of area? Then we get Stryker's Island, which even with comic stuff being considered, I'd call shenanigans on a Island between two immense cities like this being uninhabited. Then Gotham Harbor is completely abandoned as well? Not to mention this is where the majority of the destruction happens, and I'd think it could have easily spread past the uninhabited zone.

For a godlike being of destruction, Doomsday really is considerate of staying away from people. For the most part Snyder was just wanking himself off by reminding the critics and viewers that oh no one dies here, so it's okay. While I would have been fine and dandy with them just going Man of Steel Part Two: Electric Boogaloo, Doomsday IS a big deal, it's okay to have civilians die when fucking Doomsday is involved.
>>
>>81447304
Killing isn't a major character point to the Avengers, also. Ultron tells them they ain't "worthy" because they're all killers and they shruged it off.
>>
>>81442279
He's the reason the world was in danger, and in cleaning up his own mess, he killed thousands if not hundreds of thousands.

It isn't a low number for a train station terrorist bombing. But its a stupidly now number when you logistically consider what happened. Thats what people take issue with. It is disney going 'no no see its okay only this many people died' when if swarms of aliens with lazer canons flew on rocket sleds out of a portal in HUGE DROVES and began unloading their advanced killing technology on a city as crowded as new york fucking city....way more than that number of people would have died.

You take one stretch of new york city in the day time and unload a bunch of car exploding lazers (with a z) down it with all those people walking on the sidewalk. I mean look at pictured, that isn't even as busy as those sidewalks can get on a single street in midtown manhatten. Dude one street you got more than 74 deaths.

Thats the issue, its silly to say somehow so few people were killed not that 74 people dying isn't alot of people dying in general.
>>
>>81440059
I'll remind you that less than a month ago 31 people died and it was still national news.

I'll also remind you that writers have no sense of scale.

I'll further remind you that killing 5000+ people doesn't make your dramatic scene any better, as the larger the number gets inflated the more gratuitous and impersonal it becomes.

I'll conclude with "go fuck yourself console wars fag"
>>
>>81447437
No, evacuate from down town Metropolis into up town Metropolis.
>How would you be able to get people out of the core in the couple of hours at most before Doomsday wrecked the shit out of area
Well let's assume that down town is all business area, nobody lives there and there is only work places. When night falls then most of the buildings are going to be empty, but many people on the streets. You can evacuate a lot of people in a couple of hours with the proper protocols (which I imagine that came up with after Zod and his crew came).
>Then Gotham Harbor is completely abandoned as well?
Yes, because it was an old harbour that wasn't in use any more.

I do. But I don't want it centered around a selfish asshole with no redeeming qualities. I want Superman to take the fighting away from the city to save people. I want superman to be a superhero. Who said I was bitching about MOS's fight? Man of Steel was absolutely fine for what it was. A day one Superman fighting a shit ton of Kryptonians. There's going to be a death toll

The real shitty thing about Man of Steel was the weak dialogue writing and the STOP INVINCIBLE SON side plot, the fighting and destruction was neat and added consequences to superhero action.

What I don't like at all is this movie just trying to brush off the devastation with a cheap, and implausible reason for no one getting killed. And Doomsday is far more destructive than what Zod could have done to Metropolis.

didnt /co/ agree that it was 74 people due to the avengers accidental collateral damage?

as in:
some one getting killed from shrapnel from one of tony's missiles
or black widow accidentally tagging a civilian with a ricochet
or hulk accidentally throwing a car that still has people in it

in the sokovia death toll its much higher because all of the ultronbots are a result of tony and banner and they inherited the blame

if thats retarded, they're co's theories, not mine

>He heard some kaiju on his turf and stepped in to smack them down
Characters in the movie say that over and over and over again, but he never attacks them in places where humans aren't present and where they aren't harming humans. He never tries to kill one of them in the middle of a desert, jungle, ocean or tundra, all places which could considered "his turf".

>the fact that he generally ignored them instead of going out of his way to kill everyone.
Ignoring humans is one thing, protecting them is another. Any damage he did to humans or human property was completely accidental and paled in comparison to the intentional damage wrought by the MUTOs. And why wouldn't Godzilla hate humans? If he wanted to kill the MUTOs for intruding on his territory, why the hell wouldn't he want to wipe out the pesky termites building their steel and glass towers in his backyard? Oh right, because Gamer- I mean Godzilla is protector of the earth and friend to children.
>>
>>81448899
To be fair, that one was Army politics spin.

They couldn't stop or slow down or even bug Godzilla during the fight, and the Mutos literally just walked all over them and took their shit and shrugged off everything they tried to do. More than that, they couldn't pin the Muto's resurgence on Godzilla due to them being spotted before him/one of them escaping from an army base in a way that would be impossible to hide. They had to cover their asses and look like they were still in control at the end and give a reason why the army wasn't shooting at Godzilla when he made his way to the ocean, this was the best they could come up with.
>>
>>81451544
>but he never attacks them in places where humans aren't present and where they aren't harming humans. He never tries to kill one of them in the middle of a desert, jungle, ocean or tundra, all places which could considered "his turf"

That's because when they're harming humans, they're staying still. He's literally never not moving at any point in the movie unless he's fighting them. There is never a single scene where he's not en-route to kick some ass unless he's in the middle of kicking ass. That's not Godzilla rushing to people's aide, that's Godzilla taking advantage of the fact the flying one stopped flying away for three seconds to actually fight him, he ran like hell in the Hawaii fight.

>Ignoring humans is one thing, protecting them is another.
Right, and at no point does he do the latter.

> And why wouldn't Godzilla hate humans?
Not part of his instincts, this is built-in stuff from millions of years ago when the Mutos turned his kin into incubators. That was the point of the Eggs being found in a giant Godzilla skeleton.
>>
>>81440390
Riiiight. Tofurkey not funny.
>>
>>81451544
>He never tries to kill one of them in the middle of a desert, jungle, ocean or tundra, all places which could considered "his turf".
Were you even paying attention to the movie? Male MUTO went straight from Japan to Hawaii to Cali. Female Muto went straight from Nevada to Cali. The only times they weren't in the city were the times when Godzilla wasn't able to catch up to them and he was in pursuit the whole time. What could possibly make you think that he gave a shit whether they were in a city or not? On top of that, fighting them in the middle of the city only shows that he doesn't care about humans.

>Ignoring humans is one thing, protecting them is another.
And when the fuck did he intentionally protect anyone? Saving humans was just an unintended byproduct of his goal; killing other kaiju. He doesn't give a shit about humans specifically because they're termites. He gives a shit about other kaiju because they're actually on he same scale as him. Not to mention the fact that it was established early on that the MUTOs are enemies of his species.

>Any damage he did to humans or human property was completely accidental and paled in comparison to the intentional damage wrought by the MUTOs
The MUTO's were actively attracted to human radiation sources because they were trying to build a nest. Besides that, their stomping through buildings was no more intentional than Godzilla stomping through buildings.

It just sounds like you want him to be a hero so you can complain about it.

I figured the Civil War numbers were damage/lost lives due to the Avengers' direct actions, like knocking over buildings and throwing mecha-whales around. The hundreds dead are from the Chitauri.

It doesn't make sense to hold the Avengers responsible for the entire invasion, just what they did in defiance of the World Security Council.

Damn I actually really like that explanation. They just took credit for Godzilla's work because that's the what the fucking US government does best!
>>
>>81456344

I think it's just the disparity of what was shown compared to the toll. It's like if someone said "The enemy nuked Manhattan, three people were killed." You'd call BS not because you want more dead people, but you know that nuke going off there would kill way more people.

But on one hand you're right in the sense that it shows the Avengers saved a lot of people. 74 for NYC? That's a low number considering what happened, considering 9/11. If I was Cap I'd bring that up immediately.

Hell the low death toll may have been due to Cap getting the cops to evacuate the city!

No he isn't. His creator said he represents nature/natural disasters.

All fury, no hatred. A pissed off animal who is also a tsunami.

He's also a metaphor for Japan getting nuked again if it starts World War 3 since he created Godzilla as a message against Japan ever having a military again.

Mothra represents the oppressed peoples of the Pacific getting even.

After King Kong, they're only rarely a metaphor.

What annoys me the most about the low death toll is that the Avengers weren't even in New York when it started. Only Iron Man was there. And the portal opened so abruptly that the city had no chance of being evacuated. Not even those 4 blocks

More than 74 people die of natural causes everyday in New York City.

An alien invasion is less dangerous than being a citizen of NYC.

Less dangerous than a single terrorist.

Less dangerous than a walkway collapse.

Less dangerous than drunk people on new years.
