They don't? Fuck, the Harley Quinn comic had a whole run where she set up a new identity to become a psychiatrist again.

>>81440365
I like to think they just leave Batman there. I mean he was going to win but now it's just anti-climatic as instead of a thrilling escape the bad guys kinda just leave because one feels sad.
>>81440697
I'm not upset, just annoyed. I get annoyed ANY time I see threads about Batman or his villains derailed into a proven go-nowhere discussion - whether it's "WHY DOESN'T BATMAN KILL THE JOKER?" or, for a while there, you couldn't have any Riddler threads without people going "Why couldn't he have just stayed as a private detective and solved crimes like in Dini's run, forever and ever and ever and ever?" In all these cases, the answer is obvious: because they're created for the sole purpose of being antagonists for Batman. If Joker were dead, there'd be no more Batman stories with him. Same if Riddler permanently went legit. And if Harley were worthy of her PhD in Psych, she'd realize how messed up she is and probably commit herself.
>>81440763
...but... they don't? Fuck me man, I don't follow all of the nu52, so I dunno if they went full-on dryad with Ivy there, but 99% of every Poison Ivy story I've ever seen or read has her using her MAD SCIENCE to do weird plant shit.
As for Harley... again, it doesn't come up because if she were suddenly smart enough to psychoanalyze and outwit her opponents on the fly, it'd beg the question as to why she doesn't realize "Oh wait, the Joker is a psychopath and I'm being manipulated by him."
>>81440900
Also, I wish people would stop acting like "wannabe pop psychologist = legitimate psychiatrist = SCIENTIST"
She's less of a doctor than fucking Doctor Phil.
>>81440828
Alright first thing, Antagonist doesn't mean villain so Riddler could've still went legit and still be an antagonist to Batman and in Regards to the Harley thing, that's not how mental illness works. You don't realize you're crazy and all of a sudden you stop being crazy.
>>81440942
Anon at this point there's more canon evidence that Harley was a brillant psychiatrist than there is evidence that she wasn't.

>>81440900
Humans are not vulcans. Our emotions interfere woth our logic so even the smartest person would do dumb shit. Harley is a victim of DA and like most victims she tends to justify and forgives her abuser's behavior.
>>81440524
Didn't one of the latest Poison Ivy comic have it being a central point that she's trying to go straight as an actual botanical doctor?
I ended up not really keeping up with it like I wanted to, but I don't think they completely forget.
>>81440942
a legitimate psychiatrist stole the notes Harley had been compiling for her grad thesis, published her ideas under his name, and was critically acclaimed for the rest of his career thanks to it
Man, I don't even read any DC titles regularly and I can tell this thread is full of plebs who never touch a book.
>>81440900
>why she doesn't realize "Oh wait, the Joker is a psychopath and I'm being manipulated by him."
That happened. It's one of her main things now is that she's trying to get on with her life and move past him.
>>81440828

By being a freaky clown woman who leaves mass destruction and chaos in her wake wherever she goes. Right. See, that's why the nu52 dowsed her in permaclown - so they can have their cake and eat it too. E.g. she's smart enough to distance herself from the Joker, but permanently affected by him in a way that she still has all her recognizable physical/personality traits, most of which are derived from the Joker.
>>81441129
>>>>81441129
>That happened in her first solo book towards the end.
Fair point, but I still stand by my argument that she's slow on the uptake. It came at the END of the book, not the beginning, right? I'll confess, I haven't read too many solo Harley books, because I honestly don't care about her outside of the Batman vs Joker/Gotham dynamic. It just seems to me that anyone who got a PhD in Psych but WASN'T EXPECTING A PATIENT TO SAY "I HAD AN ABUSIVE FATHER" is probably not qualified.

Alternatively, there's a lot of canon evidence that Harley is not the sharpest tack in the drawer, and most of it written/drawn by her very creator.

>>81441767

>>81442280
I haven't read it yet, but I understand you're trying to ferret out if I'm just one of the /co/ckmonglers whose default setting is hating any book with female MC(s). So, yeah, I'll concede that. I have no problem with female characters, it's just that I've always seen Harley as a tragic character - yes she's witty, fun-loving and charming in her own way, but that comes at the cost of her being permanently infected by and linked to the Joker. It's all the more tragic that she can sometimes relatively come to her senses, out of self-preservation if nothing else, only to then lose her self and loved ones again when she inevitably goes back to Mistah Jay. I get there a lot of people who identify with her because there aren't as many prominent survivors-of-domestic-abuse in Big Two comics, but that's the thing - Harley doesn't SURVIVE her cycle of abuse, she just ENDURES it. I'd much rather Harley fans were inspired to create new characters who actually can and do permanently overcome their abusers, because a corporate-IP character branded as "Joker's Girlfriend" isn't one of them.
>>81442071
If you knew anything about anything, you'd know that Dini also had Harley Quinn being too fucking dumb to know how security tags work.
>>81440039
Because they're both immune to all known toxins
>>81442711
Dag yo, I was just shit posting and you went and made a thoughtful post fulla good points.
Because, yes Harley is currently running around having her own solo adventures and seems to be over the Joker as a person. As a character tho, she is permanently tied to the Joker.
I think it's good that there are those who are able to relate to her and identify with her and feel less shitty about things because of her, but she's a really shitty role model for this kinda thing. While some say that her BEING flawed is what makes her so appealing, being a cape character, those that attach to her as she is now are just setting themselves up to get hurt when someone else undoes that characterization.
>>81442132
>Harley was showing legitimate brilliance happened in her first series all the way back in 2006
...okay, first of all, I'm pretty sure you're WAY off with that date.
Secondly, I don't understand you. Like, any Harley Quinn fans. Every thread goes like this:
>Why isn't Harley shown as being an intelligent threat?!
>Umm, because most of the time she's seen as childish and hopelessly in love with the most obviously evil, hateful, no-love-to-give character in the entire DCU who isn't named Darkseid.
>No because in these comics she's written as a strong and intelligent woman!
>...okay... so... go read those comics, I guess?

I don't know what you people WANT.

>Dag yo, I was just shit posting and you went and made a thoughtful post fulla good points.
Aww, thanks. And I agree too. But that's something I've noticed is particularly prevalent among fans who identify themselves as fans of any particular Batman villain - they really mean "I like this one interpretation of that villain, and am going to nitpick any stories where he doesn't match up with what I want." Like, I prefer Killer Croc as a career criminal to a big dumb atavistic monster, but Doug Moench, his creator, is the one who wrote him as deliberately dumber and more feral with each appearance, so I can't complain. I just hang back and wait for the times when he's written more in accord with my tastes, like by Tim Seeley.
>>81440524

>>81444286
>All I wanna know is why Ivy gets her panties in a hush whenever supergirl is mentioned.
When has that happened
>>81443383
Because her whole motivation for why she IS Harley Quinn is psychological in nature (at least until the nu52 fucked with it). If she were competent IN THAT FIELD, she would recognize the Joker's patterns of psychopathic manipulation for what they are. You are not a fucking "intelligent, clever psychiatrist" if you can't tell when your own patient is lying to you. You're just a patsy. And that's what she is. A lovable patsy, whose ebullient personality is tragically doomed by her misplaced love, but a patsy nonetheless.
>>81444588
>If she were competent IN THAT FIELD, she would recognize the Joker's patterns of psychopathic manipulation for what they are.
Oh, and before someone says NO SHE DID THAT IN HARLEY QUINN, JOKER'S GIRLFRIEND #156!, I meant that she should have recognized that from the moment they met in Arkham. Hell, in Mad Love, Dr. Leland, who actually IS a strong, intelligent, clever psychiatrist, warned Harley about exactly that. And she STILL fell for it.
>>81444588

>>81447808
Technically, she fucked a C to an A in order to land a job at Arkham because she had high ambitions because her dad was an asshole she wanted to prove wrong.
Its not that she's bad at what she does, but she faked being a prodigy when in reality she was run of the mill.
That being said, like most fields experience means more than study. Its not hard to imagine her time actually being among the inmates, getting to know them as a comrade rather than the screws, would give her insight beyond any others in the field. So after a few years as Harley she becomes what she faked being.
>>81448901
>Technically, she fucked a C to an A
