Today I'm going to start my second favorite Spider-Man run. I will only be storytiming on Mondays.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>81439902
How nice it is to read a Peter Parker that actually acts like he should!
>>
>>
>>81439944
You're not enjoying Slott's Spider-Man-Child?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>81439911
Romita's art started really great in this run but as it went on, it started deteriorating slowly. I think the main problem is publishers just like to overwork him cause he's punctual.
>>
>>
>>81440030
Yeah, this early stuff is some of my favorite of his
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>81440186
Ain't that the question of the day?
>>
>>
>>
>>81439926
This panel is fucking neat
>>
>>81440209
Because it's retarded, Peter. This is a really stupid idea.
Man, I loved this run when I was a kid, but, man, is this arc manipulative and by the numbers as fuck. Everything else between this and Sins Past is good to gold, but the start is pretty terrible.
>>
Be back. Getting food and letting my puppy out.
>>81440328
I love this arc. the call to Aunt May, the speech to Ezekiel, and Peter just not giving in beautiful stuff.
>>
>>81440358
Morlun, before Slott turned him into a mouth breathing moron.

>>81440402
I'm up to issue 500, does Morlum come back in JMS' run?
>>
>>81440471
Honestly, even JMS didn't really do anything with Peter as teacher. Especially after 500 and Molten Man arc. I think he wanted for Peter to work with Stark after MM's arc, but forgot to write an exit for Peter as teacher.
>>
>>81440544
Yeah, he is the main villain in The Other.
>>
>>81440484
His art so fucking awesome here. Romita has gotten so lazy and stiff. I still enjoy his artwork but...

Attempt 5
>>81440557
It was still really fun and a good fit for Peter
>>
>>81440544
In the Other crossover. Which, unfortunately, was spread across 3 titles. So, Hudlin writes 4 of 12 issues. It's as bad as it sounds.
>>
This is the run that actually got me invested in Peter and MJ as a couple.

>>81440578
Oh, I don't say it was a bad move. It could've been brilliant, but it's kinda a lost opportunity.
>>
>>81440471
good. He came across as bad for the students because of how regularly he took sick days to fight supervillains. what good is an absentee teacher?
>>
>>81440561
>>81440589
Oh okay. Thanks. I'll still read it all, I'm reading Sins Past too and I know full well how terrible that is so I don't think it would bother me that much.

Is there a Chrome extension or something to bypass Captchas without buying a pass? I'd be much more interested in storytiming things if I didn't have to keep entering this shit.

Spider-Man is kind of terrifying at times.
>>
>>81440980
I could -never- picture Slott writing Spidey being this capable and direct. He would have him singing some pop song or something during a scene like this.
>>
This is my favorite Spidey run, along with Tobins Marvel Adventures.
I'd advise dropping it after JRJR leaves though.

>Why do people hate JMS?
Because they mistakenly credit One More Day and Sins Past to him, when those were both forced upon him by editorial. JMS was so pissed they did it a second time (One More Day) and was so adamantly against the direction they wanted to go, he quit the book all together and wanted his name taken off the story. Joe Quesada, who actually wrote the story, threw him under the bus and refused to remove his name as a co-writer.

Bless you OP. This is the best Spidey run of all time, and one of my favorite comic runs in general. It's what got me into comics, from reading the trades from the library.

It really is the definitive Spider-man for me.

It IS great, but you should go back and read some of the earlier stuff. Michelinie, DeFalco, Stern, Conway and DeMatteis all have good runs.

Michael Straczynski: When I took on “Thor,” I asked if I could keep him out of the rest of the Marvel Universe books for the first six issues, just to give the character time to get back on his feet and so that I could define him on his own terms. And to Marvel's credit, they agreed. The one concern at the back of my head was that of being pulled into a Big Event that could affect the forward momentum of the book and alter its direction. I've said elsewhere that in many cases -- and this isn't just Marvel, the trend is pandemic -- such an event can sometimes result in the individual books serving the event, rather than the other way around, and you have to spend months and issues afterward stitching everything back together. I'm the kind of writer who likes to write in a straight line and know for certain the terrain he's standing upon. Some writers can handle all that and never break a sweat. For me, it's just not something I can do competently. That's a shortcoming on my part and I recognize it as such.

>>
>>81442994
Just when I thought I couldn't like Feige anymore.

How much creative control over the next spider-man film does Marvel have?
>>
>>81443064
Not much, if there is something, Disney will be in charge of everything, Marvel will only be able to see.
>>
>>81442869
And lets not forget that Peter just completely forgets that he even fought Morlun... twice, during Spider-Verse.
>>
>>81439902
What's your top favorite run then?

Stern. Mantlo and DeMatteis are close, too. And Mantlo overall is underrated as hell.
>>81444432
Too bad The Other fucked it all up. God that crossover was bad.
>>
>>81444692
>God that crossover was bad.
It wasn't THAT bad. The scenes showing Peter and MJ being close were well done.
>>
Reminder: Please don't end your storytimes on OMD
End it on "To Have and to Hold"
I know it's not written by JMS, but it's pretty much the superior ending to this run.
>>
>>81444719
But there was also an entire issue of fucking around in Latveria and Wakanda. Just because Hudlin can't go on without T'Challa.
>>81444781
He can stop on Superman: Grounded.
>>
>>81444867
>But there was also an entire issue of fucking around in Latveria and Wakanda. Just because Hudlin can't go on without T'Challa.

...and? It wasn't as bad as you're acting like it is.
>>
>>81439902
Is this run good or ruined by editorial interference? I like the way JMS carefully plans and plots his stories and knows when they're going to end and how everything will play out. But somehow I feel like this probably isn't that.
>>
>>81444140
Anon, usually I would agree with you, but one has Ike Perlmutter in charge and the other Alan Horn. One knows that you need to spend money to make money and the other is /pol/'s Happy Merchant come to life.
>>
>>81444889
It's latter half gets wrecked by the insane desire to push towards civil war and then onto OMD, but before that it's pretty good. Editorial also spared us Peter and Gwen making babies around that time like JMS intended.
>>
>>81439926
Bump for pretentious Straczynski titles.
>>
>>81440030
At least it's not as bad as watching Dillon's art go to shit during Preacher.
>>
>>81442994
So is Spider-Man a passion project/cash cow for Feige? Or is Strange the only one?
>>
>>81443482
it was even in the news that they fired the marvel guy that was in charge of the movies department or some shit like that and he was replaced with disney people and they decided that all the movie stuff would be under disney people managment and not the people from marvel, and yes, Disney owns Marvel, but that doesn't mean Disney=Marvel.
>>
>>81444946
>but one has Ike Perlmutter in charge and the other Alan Horn

...both of which are owned by Disney.
>>
>>81445707
Which means Kevin Feige has even more control. And since this thread started because Kevin Feige praised JMS's run and said he wanted to put moments from it up on screen...that's a good thing.

What really happened: Disney bought Marvel. But Marvel Films remained its own separate unit under Marvel's control, like how Lucasfilm is its own separate thing, like how Comics and TV remain under Marvel's control.

Then Ike Perlmutter, the main Marvel stockholder, pissed off Feige and Disney. Disney took control of the film unit. Now Feige reports to Alan Horn, the chairman of Walt Disney Studios. Unfortunately, comics and TV still fall under Perlmutter and the Marvel story group, aka Quesada and his bootlickers.
>>
>>81445707
No, you dolt. They fired the Creative Board and gave full control to Kevin Feige. So he's no longer working with people like Jeph Loeb or Joe Quesada. Its still all Disney/Marvel Studios.

Kevin Feige is an executive producer on the Sony made Spider-Man movie.
>>
>>81442969
I fucking love this run, and agree with Fiege.
It traces back to an interview with Paul Dini about stakes in a story.
If a character survives a life-or-death situation, it has to matter to the audience or else the entire situation will be a cheat.
