The kid begins and you watch him from being his once in a while happy self to being a drown to whatever you say and he has no original thought. Your child now is a nothing more but a "yes father" machine.
Later on in the years, your son now is an ungrateful 17 year old that wants to be a dick bag to you and all you've done. He "runs away" to his friends house for a month. Later you get a call from the police saying they have your son. You go down there to get him out. You and him have the "heart to heart" talk. You tell him about your life up to now. He finally understands. He helps more. But he says he likes his hair. You tell him as long as he keeps it clean he's good with it.

I really want to make a story where there's this happy-go-lucky character get's picked on, similar to how Charlie is treated, and he gradually gets more and more depressed untilhe finally attempts to kill himself, and then those people who tormented him try to redeem themselves and become better people.

I know depression is not the same for everyone. And im not the guy you were talking with in this thread. But for me, even when everything was going splendid, suddenly depression could come over me with anxiety attacks included. It could get that bad that i did not take care of my flat at all for weeks, as i could barely make myself go to my job.
Nothing went wrong with my life, i was still healthy. I had a girlfriend, but then suddenly my brain clicked and made me into a mess for a few days/weeks. It took a long time to get myself sorted, and even now i still have to watch out to not fall into the same old story again.
