why hasnt there been more sports cartoons?
kids love sports and look up to some players as heroes.
so why hasnt anyone cashed in on this?
I think the idea is that kids would rather play the sport they're interested in instead of reading/watching about it. Which seems silly considering how viable sports anime have been for decades.
sports are too mundane and boring, which is why anime is so well suited to them

Stop triggering me, anon-kun.

>kids would rather play the sport they're interested in instead of reading/watching about it.
Not related to the topic, but that's pretty much why I don't even watch professional sports.
>kids love sports and look up to some players as heroes.
Do they, though?
I have a few nephews and a niece, I have a few friends with kids and what I've noticed is they play sports, have a favorite team but can't name a single player aside from the extremely famous ones like JJ Watt or Lebron James or something.
If people really wanted a cartoon to rake in some cash, make a Minecraft or Let's Play cartoon somehow. Kids are fucking bonkers over those.
>>81420183
>>81420057
see but the thing is people already watch the sport onTV or pay ridiculous amounts of money for tickets for a 2 hour game
Because cartoons are only made to sell merchandize and outside of stuff like that shitty NFL cartoon a few years ago it's hard to do that with a fictional sports team. Team branded clothing is basically the only thing due to >>81420057
>>81420209
you have a point. Growing up everyone looked up to Michael Jordan and emitt smith. maybe times have changed
>>81420209
>Minecraft or Let's Play cartoon
I thought the world wanted autism rates to go down
>>81419967
The people who grew up to make cartoons aren't the kind who were interested in sports.
>>81419967
Because sports anything aimed at kids is an after school special, which has been proven not to make money.
I certainly don't want any cartoon based on a sport
It'll be utterly boring like the real thing
Kids shouldn't look up to the douche bags wearing gear playing with balls
They don't do jack fucking shit for the community
And to think they make more than a lot of other people who contribute to the community makes me so angry
Sports is a waste of time
Prove me wrong
Protip: You can't
/hairflip
>>81419967
Because sports are already plotless and pointless.

What little I've seen of sports animePing Pong, It's solidly about the human drama of competition, not as much trying to market and commodify the specific sport itself and famous players.
Because animators all used to be pussy nerds who where bullied by the jocks
>>81421043
Meh, Ping Pong isn't REALLY a sports anime. It's great, don't get me wrong, but it really puts the game in the backseat just for the character drama between Smile and Peco.
Others do this as well, but it was much more pronounced in Ping Pong.
Life-long Blue Jays fan here I'd watch a cartoon about epic Joey bat flip man
>>81419967
This existed... I think.
>>81423602
Didn't Nicktoons make a bad football thing, too?
I think the culture has changed around sports. There was the rape allegations with Kobe Bryant, people think Lebron James is a sell out, Michael Vick got busted for dog fights, the Patriots fucking cheated. Baseball's popularity is tanking after people started complaining that juicing has ruined the game. Football players were fucking shooting themselves in the hearts because they were suffering brain injuries but had the fore sight to not go for a headshot.
I think gone are the days where we pretend that sports figures are role models.
A show that focuses on a particular niche is just that, niche.
>>81420057
>Sports anime
These depend on the viewer investing in the drama between the characters rather than giving a shit about the sport. Slam Dunk was a huge hit in Japan, but I don't think they really give a shit about basketball. American children don't watch cartoons for drama (though that is changing), they watch it for giggles and because it's on.
>>81423627
Yea they did.
All I remember is the main character kinda looked like Huey from Boondocks and there was some kinda robot aspect to it, like either the characters transformed into robots or the baddies were robots or something.
Also the animation was fucking awful.
>>81424255
was it this?
>>81420225
>2 hour game
What super-efficient, commercial-free sport are you watching?
>>81420867
This is exactly what I was hoping this thread would be like. I figured /co/ talking about sports would be full of hilarity.
>>81424333
Oh god, those chibi mascots.
We should show that to /sp/.
>>81424007
>Kobe Bryant
How many people still care about that?
>Michael Vick
He is fairly inconsequential, and was only on the fringes of super stardom at the time, anyway.
>Patriots
You are aware cheating is common and has been forever, right? And that the Patriots are no less popular, and were already incredibly hated, yes?
>Baseball's popularity is tanking
Incorrect. It is not as popular as it was in the 60s, but it is more popular than it was in the 90s.
>Football Players
Yeah, football is facing a difficult future, but that really doesn't have anything to do with your point about role models.
You may actually be right, your arguments just aren't very good.
>>81424333
Friendly reminder that this show had 3 season, all with 20+ episodes.
>>81424508
You skipped the part where he called LeBron James a sell out for going back home to help the team he started with, instead of just staying on his star squad, or going for the biggest contract possible.
>>81424333
>>81424464
This is amazing.
Dad, why isn't Aaron Hernandez on the show anymore?

That Buccaneers one looks charming as fuck.
Because they saw how much better Japan was at it, even when it came to sports Japan does not care about like Football.
Because Sports anime are story driven and story driven shows dont work in the USA.
>>81425072
It's better to just make up sports anyways.
>>81425072
Eyeshield was a bad anime
>>81425186
That's why you read the manga, what moron watches an anime adaptation of a manga? Those are almost never good.

>>81425123
And character development out the ass. Eyeshield 21 is probably a great example, every single member of the team had character development. One of my favorites is the Hah Brothers development.
>>81424629
>the Chargers one
>>81425563
Fuck even players for the opposing teams had development. Agon of all fucking people had some
>>81420057
By this logic sport films wouldn't be popular.

Wasn't there an animated series about a soccer team? I remember the owner was this blonde girl and one of the players only played barefoot, which I think isn't allowed in the real world.

There have been a lot of cartoons about soccer but i don't remember any like the one you described.
