If they can make CGI look like stop motion models in stuff like the LEGO movie why don't they do it in Thomas and make it look more like the old series? The current CGI just makes everything look so flat and dull, there's barely any reflection or shine or detail to any surfaces. I have done a bit of work with 3D and it doesn't seem like that would be too big a deal to render.

Huh, neat. A streamlined Coronation Class would actually have been a better choice for Caitlin given that it was actually a UK locomotive (I know anything goes on Sodor, but what the fuck US locos are doing running services on the UK mainland I don't know). But then it would probably be more difficult to attach a face to.

I'll always be a little sad I never got to live in the age of steam. I feel like Thomas gives even kids who never lived in that era a serious nostalgia for it.

>>81434205
That's what I initially thought as well, but after marathoning Season 17 on the advice of the anons above (having never watched anything other than the old Ringo episodes) I have to say it's not really all that different. The most jarring thing honestly was the Fat Controller's appearance, he looks like a hamster-cheeked dwarf rather than a fat guy.

That sort of humour's not for everyone I guess. I'm with >>81427914 though, I thought it was pretty good. Room for improvement yes, but not at all bad for amateur film-makers. Definitely better than the lolsorandom youtube poops that pass for most amateur attempts at humour these days.
>>
>>81437278
Probably because "head full of sawdust" isn't an idiom I'm familiar with. I've only just now got it based on a line from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It's probable I would have at least chuckled if the expression was in my standard vocabulary.

The climax was certainly well done though. Not exactly scary, but there was definitely a disturbing factor to it.

So, apparently the next film-thing is going to have a volcano on Sodor.

I have nothing to say, does anyone else have something to say? because I sure as hell don't.
>>
>>81438785
Sauce? I remember the episode about the fake volcano but I don't know what you're talking about.

Also, I've been looking at some of the older model series episodes occasionally. The Oliver episodes are pretty quality. Toad Stands By has my favourite moral lesson of any episode: If a group of bullies won't leave you alone, just murder their ringleader.

Right up there with "if someone is bullying your twin brother, smash him up" or "it's perfectly aacceptable to repeatedly ignore instructions, disregard safety or other warnings as long as you 'feel terrible' and can fix it in an impossibly short space of time". They really hammeted the lattwr one home over the space of around 7 years.

>>
>>81439528
Mattel ruined Gordon. Like any other merchandise-driven show, if Mattel want to make a toy of it the show has to advertise it. The Shake Shake Bridge was designed as a sturdy steel bridge which shook as engines crossed it, but was otherwise perfectly stable. That wouldn't make an exciting toy, so it became a wooden trestle that literally wouldn't hold the weight of a toddler, let alone an engine.
>>
>>81439626
Bloody hell.
>>
>>81439405
>They really hammeted the lattwr one home over the space of around 7 years

Sounds like you're referencing those middle three-strikes seasons which to me basically didn't happen. Those episodes weren't written, they were just a roulette wheel of random fuckups put to whatever character's merch needed shifting. Things like Edward making basic errors and having lapses in sense.

>>81439286
I still wonder how they never released the original series OST. I guess they never thought it that important but it's still kind of sad.

>>81439528
And this looks like something straight outta ToQger, I swear.
>>
>>81439626
No, that isn't how it works. The characters and locations are designed by the production team, including merchandise exclusives like Sam. Mattel has input, but the primary force behind any new character is Brenner/McCue/Wilkinson.

They're at fault for this, not Mattel. While "Mattel forced them to do it" is an appealing conception that absolves them of blame, in reality Streamlined Gordon was almost certainly conceived by Brenner or McCue. All Mattel cares about is whether or not they can sell toys of him.

As for the Shake Shake Bridge, it was originally conceived as less dramatic and was altered to make for a more appealing toy, but at that point the executives at HiT wanted to make their IP as appealing as possible to potential buyers, so they made the show as toyetic as possible. Mattel loosened up siginfically on this front. Also note that the actual story purpose of the Shake Shake Bridge didn't change - only its appearance did.

>>
>>81446391
The thing that he had over Ringo was articulation. By the time they called him onto the show, he had over thirty years of stand-up under his belt, which teaches you about impression and how to create characters through voice. He gave each character on the show their own unique voice in a thousand subtle ways. You could tell who was talking without even paying attention to who was on screen.
