Aku only knows how to make a portal to the exact time that he sent Jack to. If he tried to make another portal, he'd just send Jack back to that time and Jack would be more prepared to face the setbacks he could now predict.

As much as Aku plays up his annoyance at the meddling Sah moo rye, playing cat and mouse with Jack is the highlight of his day.
He sent Jack ahead to buy time. In the Past Aku was strong, but he didn't have an empire at the time. Aku is at his peak and currently has the resources to send monster after monster after Jack. Now is the perfect time to end him for good.
Besides, Aku is immortal. In all likelyhood the amount of time between jumps is like a week to him. Might as well get him out of the way now instead of putting it off
