I'm honestly really not a fan of the killing joke. The only part of the story that seems of worth to read to me is that ending moment between Joker and Batman. And no he doesn't kill the joker.
But besides that it was mostly just shock value shlock. And i'm a fervent lover of Alan Moores work but I feel like this was kind of a pointless story over all. For all the 'wahh sjw ruin everything' complains on /co/ it was an honestly shitty way to treat a character for the purpose of 'driving gordon mad' which never even fucking happened. And it was a big step on the road to the current day super hardcore kill crazy joker. I don't blame alan moore for that. It was the people of lesser talent after him who couldn't think of any other direction to go but the cool seeming one. But if not for killing joke joker, you dont get the sloppy slippery slope leading to 'face nailed on joker' in the dark breaking the necks of like fifteen police officers.
I just never felt like there was much to the story and I don't imagine its going to make a very interesting story on screen either.

This is mostly what it comes down to... the detail of Brian Bolland originals artwork is such that any effort to outright duplicate it for an animated adaptation is gonna fail and end up being far far worse than if you hadn't tried to duplicate it in the first place.

It suits Bolland's style as it is now, maybe. But Bolland's style in Killing Joke wasn't the flat digital stuff he does now, it was the same he was using for other comics colored the same way.
What kills me is that Bolland says the coloring is how he originally intended it, butt here's no way that can be true. Digital coloring didn't start becoming standardized for almost a decade after, and the kinds of tones you could do in inked comic work where vastly different. A 1988 KJ colored by Bolland COULDN'T look the the 08 recolor.

I liked the book's art and it was one of the earliest bat-books I read, but I never cared for its story either. What bothers me the most is that part near the end where the Joker loses his theatrical confident demeanor, appears sorrowful, and there's a moment of connection between him and Batman. That part doesn't feel in-character to me, and the book's resolution feels weak to me because of that.

But I'm happy that they at least seem to have made an attempt to make this particular scene stand out. I think the Bruce Timm art style really hurts it visually. I get that it's easier to animate and whatnot, but the impact of things get deflated when it looks like a slightly modified BTAS clone. Especially if you nearly adapt the Bolland artwork for certain shots and then go to the Timm style for all the others. It's really jarring and ruins the tone.

I'm pretty sure TNBA and S:TAS weren't this detailed. Or even B:TAS, which was different from those two.
This doesn't look any better than any other DC animated feature over the past decade. I'm not even sure if they can properly adapt TKJ without it coming off as a half-assed, rehashed fanwank.
The art looks terrible. It looks like the same stilted animation of a North Korean slave labor camp that I expect from DC these days, and it doesn't have any sense of style of it's own, much less art capable of the surreal, manic horror of the book. And I'm sorry, I just don't feel Conroy anymore. He's capable of better, but their directors just don't seem to be able to bring it out of him anymore.
I guess I'm asking why I should watch this when I can read the book? What's new or innovative to the story that the producers though they could achieve through animation?

On second though, I think it's just the writing. Conroy seemed fine when I played Arkham Asylum, but the dialogue just seems wooden the clips. But then again I don't really hold TKJ in the high regard as everyone seems to, so maybe my opinions are just garbage.
It's funny, Warner Bros. could actually make a small fortune if they wanted to make another BTAS or just any properly animated Batman feature film. I think we've proven that nostalgia for the series is at an all time high and it's not like their live-action features are doing anything special.

I love TKJ because it humanizes the Joker. It gives him dimension. It's not important what exactly happened to him to mold him into the cruel monster he is now, the origin shown in the book shouldn't be taken literally. It's the notion that he thinks some cruel fate befell him which explains to some extent at least the reason behind his actions.

TKJ was probaly one of the few Batman comics that stood out to me for that very same reason, because everyone else lingers on how the Joker is some evil clown dude that laughs a lot and is evil, that end with him just giving up on the whole crazy act and just talking like a normal human being for once was literally the best part of the book, and I'm afraid that in the animated movie it isn't going to be him just saying it honestly, it's going to be him mildly sounding crazy or something
