I feel like it isn't fair to judge Cavill on his performance as Superman because he's given pure shit to work with. His character just plain doesn't develop. He can't do anything about that.
I have no idea what sort of actor he is because I've never seen anything else with him.
I was at first sad to see Routh go, but I think Routh was more of a "pretty" Superman, while Cavill has more of the rugged handsomeness that somebody like Superman would have. Routh is like an underwear model.
That's just looks, not acting ability, though. In terms of acting, I can't bring myself to judge Routh, either, because I feel like the reason he was so wooden and bland was because instead of being able to play his own interpretation of Superman, he was forced into a Chris Reeve impression by a shitty script that was nothing more but a love letter to 30-year-old films.
