The Animation Guild Blog confirmed that despite a recent press release, Uncle Grandpa has been cancelled. The additional season Cartoon Network advertised were episodes from season three that they reclassified as season four.
I never cared much for the show, but this sort of flew under the radar, so I'm posting it.

They never loved the show, they cared more for the other contest's winner, Regular Show.

I'm the same age as most of the creators of recent Cartoon Network shows (AT, SU, UG, etc) and pretty much gave up pursuing a career as an animator before I even started. I'd watch these shows on CN and I'd start hating myself for giving up on my dream and thinking about how it could've been my name that was showing up on the TV and my cartoon getting replaying endlessly. Then I read shit like this and I think that maybe it's better that I didn't follow that path. Well everything on Nick is on hiatus randomly with no explanation,
CN seems to prefer one week of new episodes every 3 months vs just airing regularly,
Fox likes to air one set of new episodes every 3 or so weeks (except Bob's Burgers that has gotten shafted so much they need to air two new episodes tomorrow just to catch up)

Pfft, it usually has great moments. I marathoned half of S6 in one night and loved a lot of it (and hated a lot of it), and Jermaine is my favourite episode of the series, but every plot thread crashed and burned for the final arc and all the problems of the show came back.

The industry is just changing. Finding good TV ratings is hard nowadays. With kids messing with their fancy tickertype glow boxes and such. And sadly, UG and Wander Over Yonder (which were cancelled) had the lowest ratings. Our network can't afford all of this high quality animation without TV viewership. We're desperately trying out scheduling strategies to compete with Netflix, Amazon, etc and other already failing TV networks. Animation is a fuckton expensive as well, so take that into consideration. I think like 2007 there is going to be another dark age in animation as entertainment translates into the digital internet streaming age. Keep in mind I'm an executive too. I know you guys hate us, but we DESPERATELY try to not only please the child demographic but also you. Which many don't try to do. Scheduling against 4-5 other networks plus streaming sites is fucking hard. Uncle Grandpa just had to be cut, we couldn't afford it with 0.88 million viewers.

Shows need to syndicate more, and actually embrace alternatives more too. The original airing needs to be less important. Bob's Burgers, The Simpsons and American Dad are likely all afloat now because they syndicated and so they can make enough money of the repeat viewing elsewhere to not have to worry as much about the premiere. And Nick is already putting full episodes on thier App and website.

It's probably making for a incredibly toxic working environment, and it doesn't help that they want to maximize profits on shows (PPG and Ben 10 reboots) while minimizing actual interesting things that may not make a lot of money, but have been incredibly well received (Stuff like Over the Garden Wall and Courage stuff)
it's too bad that CN is so worried about money than they are quality programming but it doesn't surprise me. Kids today will eat up any hot garbage they see if they watch it at all. I got some little nieces and nephews and they're more concerned about playing shitty mobile games on their tablets and watching minecraft videos than they are getting any other sort of entertainment.
