> “I initially thought I wasn’t the guy to do Justice League and went off to work on something else. But the first day I went to the set, I saw Jesse [Eisenberg] in a scene with Holly Hunter and I really did feel like I was watching some strange, great performance in an independent film.At that moment, I thought, ‘I’m not done with this yet. I want to go back and keep telling the story.’ Batman v Superman is a bit of an Empire Strikes Back or Two Towers or any similar middle film in a trilogy. The middle film tends to be the darkest one. I do think from Man of Steel through Justice League, it is one saga really.I expect Justice League will be tonally not quite as dark as Batman v Superman. From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit.”

> I have written Justice League Part One, but I won’t necessarily write ‘Part Two.’ This has been the most rigorous intellectual exercise I’ve had in my writing life. For Batman v Superman, I wanted to really dig into everything from ideas about American power to the structure of revenge tragedies to the huge canon of DC Comics to Amazon mythology. For Justice League, I could be reading in the same day about red- and blueshifts in physics, Diodorus of Sicily and his account of the war between Amazons and Atlanteans, or deep-sea biology and what kind of life plausibly might be in the Mariana Trench. If you told me the most rigorous dramaturgical and intellectual product of my life would be superhero movies, I would say you were crazy. But I do think fans deserve that. I felt I owed the fan base all of my body and soul for two years because anything less wouldn’t have been appreciating the opportunity I had.”

>>
Yeah, let's make the movie with fucking Darkseid the one that's tonally light, that will totally work.
>>
Hi Chris, was the Jar of piss thing your idea?

Come on, be honest. I haven't laughed this hard in years.

JAR OF PISS
>>
> I wanted to really dig into everything from ideas about American power to the structure of revenge tragedies to the huge canon of DC Comics to Amazon mythology

Uh...where was any of this in the movie?
>>

Everywhere you dense pleb.
>>
I'm starting to think that everyone on board this project was convinced that this was going to be some kind of treatise on notions of power, accountability, morality, and the opposing forces of good and evil instead of a movie.

>Rumors have been circulating for some time that Warner Bros. may be getting cold feet in some regards to the DCEU, but speaking with The LA Times, Batman himself, Ben Affleck, says that’s not the case.

>“Look, in the broad sense, from a long-term portfolio perspective, Warner Bros. has already won. They own this vast underexploited [intellectual property] that is DC. They’re going to make all these movies regardless. Will every DC movie be great and be successful? No. Would it be good if BvS works for them? Yes, obviously. But if any one of the movies doesn’t work, it doesn’t mean it all goes away. Green Lantern didn’t work, and Green Lantern is going to come back and work for them.’

>“Zack spent two years of his life on this movie, and we put in months and months. We are truly, deeply invested in this movie. We want the movie to be good. We want to be proud of it. I want to make a movie that my kids think is cool. It’s not just us punching the corporate clock. You know, you get up at 5 and go to work at 6 in the morning and put on the suit. It’s not particularly fun and sexy to roll around in a rubber suit fighting a stunt guy.”

I love how overblown people have made this.

>I was watching some strange, great performance in an independent film.
I can't tell if this is praise or if he's making fun of it.
>>
>>81378336
Pretty much.

I'd say about 70% of people are aware the movie didn't deliver, and the other 30% are desperate to defend it, not being able to admit that their hopes were smashed.

See, I can understand the audience defending it and calling it this deep, philosophical exploration about the mythology and ethics of superheroes, because for a bit of the film it actually seems like that's what it's going to do. Then it doesn't deliver. My concern is that Terrio seems to have thought that this was the goal of the film, that this was what it accomplished or at least what he was trying to. the problem is that the film doesn't get into these things, it just barely touches on them in very heavy handed ways. And I think everyone in the production thought it was going to do this, which is where I think they made their mistake. They wanted to make a deep, meaningful film but either lacked the skill to do so or were just misguided in their intent. This whole story gets more and more sad the more we learn of its production.

I love the Jar of Piss scene, anon. No joking, I fucking love it. The sad thing is that shit is the best part of the movie...What the fuck.

Affleck didn't look very proud

I dont see why thats become such a meme,

Its totally in character for Lex

You might be mentally retarded. How do you operate a keyboard?

that wasn't even a bad scene.

Affleck sounds like he knows this shit gonna be suck but trying to put up a brave appearance,

I liked the jar scene too, not because it was super smart or anything, but just because she reacted so realistically... like "Jesus fucking Christ, this guy is a psychopath".

He knew it since the beginning but he's working with his Batman after all

>ideas about American power

Lex's whole speech about "the oldest lie in America" and his dealings with the Senator.

>structure of revenge tragedies

Batman's whole character arc.

>the huge canon of DC Comics
>Flash going full SPEED FORCE BULLSHIT in his first appearance
>hints at Apokalips and Darkseid

>Amazon mythology

Other than Wonder Woman existing I can't really think of how that contributed.

Light because its good vs evil
Not version of good vs version of good
Lighter because requires less thought

Actually, this part referred to Lex as well.
>>
>>81382773

Makes sense considering that Batman and Lex's characters parallel each other a fair bit in this movie

>both are obsessed with killing Superman because they can't envision a possibility of him living up to the messianic hero-worship, or actually being a good person with the best intentions that people can trust

Yes it was. Instead of giving Superman a character moment Holly Hunter stares at piss then lolsplosions.

Dude, fucking Lex was pissed at Bat and Supes the whole fucking movies. He almost cum the moment he make Supes on his knees and fucking happy with his petty revenge.

>Having to bring in your own movie to apologize for the failures of basic story telling.

>Having to make up rationalizations for why a movie focuses on presenting themes it doesn't explore through character or narrative, and settling on enjoying a visual interpretation made not by the director but by an army of digital artists who construct and mold the only reason to see a story play out at all.

>Forcing yourself to inflate a popcorn flick of no inherent value by explaining what the creators were wanting to do but were not able to do with a $400 million dollar budget and a 3 years to create with full studio backing

Yeeeeup.

are you fucking serious
>>
>>81379090
It didn't need to be focused on during 20 seconds. Just have her notice the jar, read the label, see that Lex isn't there and BOOM

Also, they probably could have found something less gross and childish for her to say and for him to spit back in her face. Still, it showed that this Lex Luthor is a petty motherfucker, and I'm more than alright with that.
