The first 2 volumes were objectively terrible in every way except for fight animation and soundtrack. The pacing was terrible, the plot was borderline nonexistant, there was little to no character development outside of Weiss, Blake and Jaune, the graphics and backgrounds looked awful, the voice acting for most characters ranged from awful to mediocre and the animation outside of fight scenes was abysmal. Volume 3 improved on literally everything, except for the animation during fight scenes (which got progressively better as the volume went on anyway). It's objectively the superior volume.
I also have to suspect anyone that refers to volumes 1 and 2 as "greatness" to be trolling, even if you do genuinely like volume 3 less
