Yeah, the bits don't just disappear, but hybrids can look entirely like one or the other at first glance. The reasoning behind it (and SW's absolutely off the wall, batshit crazy ecosystems) is that everything in the galaxy now was genetically engineered. The only "real" aliens SW has are the non-humanoid ones. Everything that looks like a human with a bit of things added on to it probably IS a genetweaked human.
