There is a theory that Max was hijacked by a different spirit before entering Mayview. I didn't go with it at first but when Boss Leader said that Scrapdragon was just a crazes beast with no reason that pretty much confirmed it. Scrapdragon couldn't have been the one who was talking through Max. BL also felt another presence inside his mind so that's further evidence.
