How many Christ allegories does one man need to tell a story
And what was the deal with all the Excalibur / King Arthur references?
>>
>>81348515
christ is ascribed not even from the christ of the bible but from all dying and rising myths. all of them
him killing the beast that also kills him is important
>>
>>81348515
You cant be this dumb. What is the Knights of the Round table dumbass?
>>
>>81348515
Snyder likes John Boorman's Excalibur.
>>

literally just because it's violent, like he can't defend or describe anything else about it when asked. Such a great movie and all this retard can do is talk about how the gore amazes him.
>>
>>81348515
I remember when watching MOS with my friend, and Clark is in a church with a stained window of Jesus behind him when he says he doesn't know his purpose.

That was actually embarrassing.

But Zack compared them more to the Seven Samurai than the Round Table, and anyway Batman is the one uniting them not Superman (who is dead)

Zack specifically stated that JL is Knights of the Round Table a while back
Batman can unite them but once he's revived Superman will be front and center
>>
>>81349138
who will be the seventh?
>>
>>81349138
Batman is Lancelot, the first/black knight
>>81349220
A Green Lantern maybe, they are mostly using the new 52 roster

Aha holy shit seriously? Glad I stayed away from the movie.

>>
>>81349676
That to me was the worst one, but they also do a scene where he's in the water with light gleaming on him, his arms out like a cross, and unshaven.

Then when he's going out of space to earth they do the same thing, but now he's in the Superman outfit.

Game of Thrones
>>
>>81349138
The fact that Superman is set up as King Arthur is hype
>>
In Man of Steel Goyer really wanted to push that Superman = Jesus Christ.

In this one Zack Snyder, who's big on visuals, wanted to take that and add a bunch of Mythic and Literature visual referencies to the movie to make it more "epic". So there are tooons of references.
>>
>>81348515
>christ

It's the solar god m8.

Did you catch the Ubermensch stuff? Or the Frankentein stuff? The prometheus stuff? The Totem stuff?
>>
>>81348970
Superman is Arthur. Coming back to his people in the hour of need.
>>
>>81348515

There's literally a comic written by Morrison where the Justice League are on the Watchtower for the first time and Supes refers to it as the new Camelot.

Snyder's not the first person to do it.
>>
>>81348515
>How many Christ allegories does one man need to tell a story

Well, you idiots got confused about the martha bit and had a hard time understanding that Lex has MORE than one plan running at the same time
>>

The most obvious Excalibur reference is at the end of Excalibur King Arthur is stabbed by Mordred's lance, and pulls the lance deeper into him so he can stab Mordred with Excalibur. Superman gets stabbed by Doomsday's strong-hand and pulls himself deeper onto Doomsday so he can finish him off with the Kryptonite spear.

The other references to Excalibur is that Bruce uses it to defeat Clark and then discards it. In Excalibur King Arthur uses it to defeat Lancelot but breaks it in the process. In both cases a lady in water returns the weapon so it can be used for Justice (The Lady of the Lake and Lois Lane respectively).

The other important Excalibur reference is that after Percival returns Excalibur to the Lady in the Lake King Arthur is taken off to Avalon by the three women in white to return as the Once and Future King. In much the same way Superman will return in one of the Justice League movies.

There's possibly more Excalibur references but I can't think of any right now.

>“Everyone thinks, ‘Oh, it’s a movie about King Arthur, it’s gotta be accessible.’ But no. This went further than I thought it would.” What has stayed with Snyder over the years and perhaps influenced him the most as a director is the film’s then-eyebrow-raising bloodletting. “I guess when I come to a part in my movies where there’s an opportunity for it to be gory, I say, ‘Okay, let’s film that.’ It’s not my aesthetic to use trickery to get around it. In Watchmen, I always felt the truth of being a superhero is that people frickin’ get killed. And that’s whatExcalibur is. It’s violent because that’s what it was like.”

dude violence lmao
>>
>>81353055
Zack is literally patrician
>>
>>81353146
I knew it, Watchmen basically tainted Snyder for life. The "realistic" take on superheroes, the seemingly-disjointed storytelling with constant flashbacks, the negative atmosphere... you find it all in both MoS and BvS

Dude read and adapted a story about making superheroes not-so-super and decided "oh, so that's what the cool kids are into nowadays, this is the new standard for superheroes"
>>

The Christ of the Bible is the Christ that rose from the dead.

That's wrong though. He nailed what made Excalibur an incredible piece of cinema in an interview six years ago where he made the guy watch it with him in his office.

>"The thing about Boorman is he's one of those rare guys who combines drama and being a visualist. The drama of the movie is clearly the most important thing to him, but the way he sees it is incredibly painterly. This is like the stylized other England you want the Middle Ages to be. It's as if it takes place in no particular time in history. Like it's another planet in some ways."

They got Superman's mythology all fucked up.

Superman isn't Jesus he's Moses.

Superman isn't a martyr he's fucking invulnerable!

Baby in a basket that becomes patriarchal law giver, etc et al

These movies don't work like they could bc they keep trying to do this Jesus stuff w/ him and it's just wrong for the character.

Is Zack honestly some kind of idiot savant?
He's perfectly accurate in discussing what makes Excalibur such a great piece of cinema but can't make a movie himself to save his life even when aping elements from stuff he loves. Like I can't believe I'm even seeing him bringing up Sucker Punch when discussing the movie.

If Hack Snyder could portray a decent Superman on film, I'd be excited.

He can't thou, and tour posts make me cry for all that wasted potential.

Superman is both Moses and Jesus. Like Goyer said he's both Old Testament and New Testament. He's not just a stand-in to Jesus Christ. There's a lot of parallels to Moses in the movies.
>>
>>81355055

Zack is a patrician stealth killing capeshit so that real cinema can flourish
>>
>>81355946
>this meme is still going on even though everyone knows bvs was dogshit
lmao
>>
>>81355328
The problem I see in the depiction of Superman as Jesus is when Snyder also want the characters act in a realistic light because Jesus isn't realistic.
He embodies ideals that are beyond normal human behaviour and when I say normal I don't mean you have to be super human. I mean regular citizen would act like that. Especially no one who has someone like Pa Kent as father.

so who's Merlin? Jor-El?
>>
>>81356363

Well, i think that in BvS, which was very much a Snyder film, the point is that Superman IS NOT Jesus. He's that boy from Kansas. It's the world and the people in it that are trying to embody him with divinity and either idolizing or condemning him.

So in my opinion everybody is treating him as if he was the second coming of Christ when he's just noping the whole thing and trying to show people that he's far from that.
>>
>>81356469

It's actually Lex Luthor.
