Morty wasn't scarred by something so arbitrary as human mutilation and psychological breaking. Sure he was scared and even sick at some of the stuff that Rick would do, but he always came out on top and helped Rick gain a bit more humanity each time.

Summer doesn't protect Rick's brain patterns with her stupidity. If it was about being the most competent companion, Ricks from dimensions where Beth was childless would have Beths for companions. But they don't. They have Mortys for a reason.
Also, if Summer was worthwhile, statistics says at least ONE Rick would have a Summer as primary companion instead.
