If you send me an email (and live in the US) I can mail yours tomorrow. Like, at this point I can pretty much just do things in any order until they're done.

As of today, I've sent out all the domestic Candy Lizard Packs, Tapestry Packs, and $300-tier packs. I'm doing the Tote Packs right now because they're easy, but after that I'm probably just going to go from the top down.
>>
>>81312023
I'm fine with waiting mate, I'm waiting for a bunch of other stuff as well (home theater build, got a projector and stuff). It's just the standard thing to post in a Prequel thread nowadays. If you're wondering it's a T-shirt pack, which is probably why it's taking a bit going by your method.

I sent a couple, but I haven't dove headfirst into them yet. But seriously, just email me and I can pack it right now. This is literally just a huge wall of work I can do in basically any order. I'm only doing Tote Packs right now because everyone who said "send mine faster!" has already had theirs sent.

>>81312264
>Kazerad, if you got time now(i hope you do), the question i was going to send last time was this: how do you feel about art critique and correcting other people's work? i understand you made a post about this long ago but i can't find it.

I like criticism, and I've always been a critic, but I think a lot of people misunderstand the concept. A critic's job is to be representative: like, to be someone who can tell you "this won't make as big of a splash in the webcomic community as you think it will", or "this looks wrong and your teacher won't like it". Critics can be gentle or harsh, but a someone who cannot accurately represent anyone other than themselves is not particularly valuable as a critic.

After a certain level of popularity, critics become less important. A lot of people parse this as popular artists feeling they're above criticism, but it's really more that once you actually have access to an audience and are able to directly monitor large amounts of feedback from them, there's less value in listening to people who purport to represent this group. If they represent the group well, you will already know what they are saying, and if they represent the group poorly, then you will already know that they are not as representative as they believe. At best, many of these people represent a sub-fringe that a creator may or may not care about.

I try my best to please everyone, but sometimes people just don't understand how unique their opinions are.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
>>
>>81313591

i think you misunderstood a bit, i should have put more emphasis on "correcting other people's work", i want to know how do you feel about redlining a drawing, for example. I know you're all about the broadest audience because your main concern right now is delivering a product, but putting that aside, what is your take on someone's own satisfaction with their work?
>>
>>81314261
They're actually little miniature backwards hairs on the tongue. Not really that bad.

Not to put criticism on a pedestal, but you really are selling it short.
>>
>>81314512
How so?
>>
>>81314512
>Not to put criticism on a pedestal, but you really are selling it short.

I don't think it's short at all! Critics are very important, because most people don't have access to feedback from a larger audience. Even those who do may want to pursue a different audience they're less familiar with, or try something they haven't done before, and good critics are necessary if you want to avoid mistakes before doing them in front of thousands of people.

Critics just need to be self-aware that their job is to represent /something/. It might be a niche, or a single person (e.g. a judge), or a general audience. Their usefulness as a critic pivots on how well they represent what they purport.

>>81314364
I don't see it as that different. Like, if someone is redlining, it's just a way of saying what they think should be changed. And if someone's only concern is making something they're personally happy with, then no critic is going to be particularly valuable to them.

I guess if you're asking whether someone is obligated to listen to critics when they don't care, then... no? That would be strange.

Poll:

>>
>>81315086

well, i'm asking because i get people who go on about wanting to improve very often(and crying about never getting there), but react negatively to being told to work harder on a specific thing or correct/finish things.

You're what i would call a chronic perfectionist and i'm a little of that too. I think there's a mixed message to saying one wants to improve but leaving the improvements for the next drawing, and the drawing after that one.
>>
>Read Prequel.
>Get coozy Oblivion feels.
>My god, it was years since I played Oblivion.

I can't believe how good this game is, I love it to bits even after playing it for hundreds of hours.

>>81315086

also fuck you, the Prequel Prequel flash (The one on the boat) scared the living shit out of me thrice and my room mate almost slit my throat.
>>
>>81315413
>I think there's a mixed message to saying one wants to improve but leaving the improvements for the next drawing, and the drawing after that one.

It's a fairly viable tactic as far as I can see. Like, working on something to the point where you're satisfied enough to call it "finished" and then trying to take any criticisms into account on the next thing. It comes with the added bonus that you can tell how good your critics are: if the things they think are bad are not well-received by others, you know this person isn't just blowing smoke.

I'm a perfectionist with the comic because anything I make is going to end up a permanent part of the archives that people read through to get to the current page. If an artist/writer is just throwing one-shot stuff on Tumblr or something, though, it's more worthwhile for them to just publish and move on to the next thing.

>If you're the real deal, thanks alot man, I love your work. Not even a furry.

You're welcome! I'm glad you like it. And I'm glad to hear the nightmares are working as intended. I think the flood scene is my favorite one I've made.

>>81315073
>How so?

It seems like he wants to minimize the value of critics in favor of direct audience feedback, but that can't work the way he wants it to because readers aren't critics. Often, they won't know what they like or dislike about his stuff; even when they do, there's no guarantee they'll be able to tell him, or even inclined to try.
>>
>>81316257
I'd buy that I'm already deep into furry trash, might as well buy this too if its an option
>>
>>81316296
I do get what you're saying, but it's important to note that readers aren't used for feedback the same way a critic is. Most readers won't talk directly, but they do talk with one another. They're nicely compartmentalized, too: the opinions here will differ from the opinions on Tumblr, which will differ from Facebook, and so on. Readers might not be able to articulate the things they like or dislike in proper terminology, but trends do emerge in the things they talk about, and there are always a few people who know how to talk specifically about their tastes.

It's a more active process than just working with critics, but you get better information from it. As valuable as critics are, they're still just meant to estimate the opinions of others. Having access to those others, if possible, is a better solution.

>>
>>81317421
Kaz, for what's it's worth, what you're describing there is basically market research. You reading comments and discussion on different forms of social media is the equivalent of the execs sending some suits to conduct some focus groups and see what the general populace thinks about a given thing. Granted they way they do it is more sterile and clinical than the "guy reading 4chan posts" method, but they can also gather a lot more information this way and gather it faster too. Except, market research is notorious for producing steaming garbage. How do you know you're not making steaming garbage?
>>
>>81321722
>>81319917
It's funny that Oblivion had such awful faces when one of their main marketing points was the dumb facial reaction dialogue system.

Sometimes I wonder if that was the cause of most of the problems. But then realize no, they're just awful.
>>
>>81328176

i think that's my main issue with this argument too, actually.

having the widest acceptance has never been automatically paired with the highest opinion, or any quality of it's own. Someone who says "i want to be really good something" has to, at some point accept that he'll have to rise further above the level at which he fulfills the expectations of the average person. Someone who seeks to stick out needs to be truly unique even within a niche.
