It's the entire point of the episode to illustrate how Kallus is serving an Empire that is uncaring to its subordinates and the comraderie he once knew is among the Rebels.
It wasn't shown but they wanted to add a scene where he's picked up by some trader which delievers him back to the Empire - their search time for a soldier gone AWOL was used up and they didn't care beyond that.
He's truly alone and has only good memories of his dead soldier friends now.

That's disingenuous. Fans love to know how stories fit together with other stories just as much, if not MORE than writers. All but the most professional writers who were hired to tell a story by their boss and treat it as a mechanical process will bridle under the constraints of a larger canon because they just want to tell the story they want to tell, but now they have to make sure they don't break anything. Canon can limit their creative freedom. But fans glee over all the nuances of the larger universe within the franchise.
You can say "canon is for the creators, it's meant to keep the Star Wars house in order", and sure that's part of it, but canon matters to the fans because it gives the storyverse rules, structure, and a kind of weight. This obviously matters more to some fans than others. You seem to be speaking specifically to, say, certain fans of KOTOR who keep wanting that "canon" label because it somehow validates their enjoyment in some capacity. It really doesn't.
There are many other types of fans who enjoy canon. Those who like to see how the pieces fit together. Those who like to know the rules as it aids them in their quest for speculation and analysis of scenes (there is no question, for instance, that the way the Force works in X story is truly different than in Y). There are fans who just like certain characters and are gratified to know that just because more stories of that character are in a comic or novel due to canon these stories are no less important or true than shows and movies. Their beloved character isn't being "downgraded".

Actually if you read the interview, and you know anything about Filoni, this is no different than people saying, "Well Ahsoka and Vader HAVE to fight. They have to!" and he responds, "Well do they? Really?"
He plays it coy in the IGN interview, toying with the interviewer at first, but he has very definite statements about her being alive still. Then later on he seems to realize, "Oh wait, I'm supposed to be claiming that she might still be dead."
The man lives behind the Masquerade. The problem is the ending wasn't very subtle or ambiguous. She's obviously moving. The only escape hatch is whether she's finding a place to die. Truth is they never finished their duel. The temple exploded. How can you tell? He didn't retrieve the body as proof for the Emperor. Vader wouldn't leave her stumbling around, he'd be compelled to capture her, as ordered, or finisher her as his hate demands.
