Alright, let me give it a try. Tales of the Jedi, while having several very interesting overarching plots, and passable art, has some of the worst scripting and dialogue I've seen in a Star Wars Comic. Marvel is better. Dark Empire, despite having a laughable overarching story, has FAR better art, and much more interesting prose than Tales of the Jedi. Kotor took all that really cool sounding lore and spun it into a competent story, both in plot, and script.
You mention the Bioware formula, but fail to mention that this formula didn't exist prior to this game. The Baldur's games certainly didn't follow what you laid out, nor did Neverwinter. Besides that they are inherently different games. They may have fallen into a rut, and then tripped off the of the rut and fell into a fiery chasm, but Bioware didn't start to shit itself until Mass Effect 2/Dragon Age

I always thought Vader's vocabulator allowed him to talk with his damaged vocal cords and that the deepness was just a side effect. Interesting to see that it's capable of preserving his original voice and the deepness is just added flair.

Oh I agree, the dialogue in Tales is pretty poor. But I didn't say Tales was amazing, I just said it's comparatively more imaginative. I disagree that KOTOR did anything particulary cool with the TOTJ lore. I like some of the characters. I like the Rakata well enough and I don't hate the Starforge. But almost everything else is boring. The Revan twist is boring, Malak is boring, Bastila is boring, the Jedi are woefully mishandled, most of the crew is flat as hell. On top of that it barely touches on any of the cool parts of Tales.
And I found KOTOR very similar in structure to Baldur's gate, with the fantasy elements switched around for Star Wars elements. Instead of the twist being you're the hidden son of an ancient evil, the twist is that you're the hidden amnesiac bad guy who discovered an ancient evil.
Like I said it's not a bad game or anything but people act like the story is sacred when it was really just an fairly uninspired riff on earlier, more imaginative source material. It's the best in its league but it's league is limited to its sequel and nothing else. Well, Uprising I guess.
