Monty wanted Pyrrha to be an allegory for Achilles.
She even died in a similar fashion. Getting shot in the heel resulted in her downfall.
The problem with basing her off of Achilles is that Achilles didn't stay 'dead' either.
Achilles mother was a nymph named Thetis.
During Achilles funeral, she snatched him from his funeral pyre, spirited his body away, and proceeded to resurrect him. Achilles the man became Achilles the immortal.
Everyone is quick to say "B-But she's dead! Just like Achilles! S-She burned to death!"
Yet they ignore all of the character's mythology, and the fact that Achilles was literally rescued from his body being turned to ash at the last moment via a form of divine intervention.
If they were really dead-set on modeling her after Achilles, this means one of two things.
A) She'll be resurrected in the modern sense, where she comes back full body and all and can resume her adventures, probably finding out she's not fully human and has some kind of divine lineage that allows this mcguffin to happen.
B) Like Achilles, she's still alive and now immortal, but not part of this realm. Most likely in Elysium or the RWBY equivalent of it, where instead of going to the generic afterlife when you die, you go to special realm of warriors chosen by or sired by the God's to live eternally in a realm of peace and tranquility as if you were still "Alive" to begin with.
If option A, she'll eventually be back and fighting, now an immortal olympian.
If option B, she'll most likely be a force ghost that on Juane can see that gives him advice and a reason to push on, with the promise that if he fulfills his destiny and lives the life of a hero, than they'll be together, immortal lovers bound by eternity.
Death by fire was not the way to go if you wanted to convince people that your Achilles allegory was dead for good.

I'll argue till the cows come home that both RWBY and JNR will live through the series but side and mentor characters will mount by the end.
The show will have a hopeful message but I don't see it going super dark, but I can see steps being taken in an attempt to preserve the tone.

For the brown side I used the quick selection tool to select the entire brown half of the hair, copied it, and pasted it onto a layer above. Then I just say the layer to overlay and used a slightly soft eraser to clean up the edges.
Layer blending modes are really powerful tools, very worth messing around with them and figuring out (at least vaguely) what sorts of things they can do.

I think most of the irritation about Pyrrha's death is that her character will have no longlasting impact compared to Penny, who will have Penny 2.0 and Penny 3.0 who will carry on her legacy in some formate, if not be the exact same Penny. I think the problem with Pyrrha dying isn't in the fact that she died.
It's the way that she died.

A pointless death that served no purpose beyond helping the main character unlock her final form for the first time. She just sat there on the floor while the villain trash talked and let what was about to happen, happen, with no fight.
Pyrrha was basically Krillan'd.
Had Pyrrha died on her feet, sword in hand and defiant to the last, even if it were something as simple as scarring up Cinder's pretty face with one last "Fuck you" toss of her Milo...Her death probably would have been better received.
