Dude, it's pretty clear at this point that the Buddibombs don't identify threats or protect their owners. Their true purpose is obviously to kill any and all mutants that come within range of them in order to keep a tight lid on everything that's going on and/or keep the mutations from spreading. It's not like the Buddibombs heard her scream and suddenly realized that Ethel was a threat. She also screamed right at the Buddibombs when she first got them, why didn't they come out and kill everyone right then and there? They detect mutants and kill them, I doubt it's anything more than that. Heck, Holly will probably have to get away from her own Buddibombs at some point if she mutates before getting rid of them.

The only time I had reservations was when Aaron Marx first turned up. It felt like one of those moments where the author got bored and decided things weren't sufficiently ker-azy so here's scatterbrained Doctor Who! Like that one era when suddenly all webcomics set in college suddenly had a wacky non-human roommate. The next few times though I got over that and now I'm def. curious what his deal is.
I know you guys have probably had the discussion already but the stuff with Jim was nuts. Reading it at midnight just amped up how nightmarish that whole sequence from the Schism to the escape was. There's no way the syndrome is purely medical if it can grant sufferers (victims?) that kind of magical insight.
