I think people have just put up with shit because of the flecks of good in it. And now the smell of the shit is so overpowering they can't stand it anymore. But it was always just a turd.
Even the supposedly great season 2 was fucking stupid. It had a dumb climax, the same soap opera level melodrama with faux character emotions and nobody acting like an actual human being might, and it entirely ruined deathstroke.
No i dont care if you liked 'slade' he was fucking lame. They took this engine of destruction that was the mercenary Deathstroke and they turned him into 'DAMN YOU OLLIE, YE KILLE ME CHINESE WAYFOO! I MUST HAVE ME REVENGE MATE!'
Not to mention the throwaway nature they handled Solomon Grundy.
So honestly yeah Felicity being propped up is just making it worse, but it was never actually good. People were just desperate for good cape tv and it was less shit than the stuff that came before for the most part. After that it became a 'well i guess ill keep watching to see what happens next' situation.

I got a good chuckle on Facebook after the last episode aired in my hometown (this four-hour time difference is still weird to me). A friend of mine's a local stand-up comic and has often said he likes the character of Felicity in the past. While scrolling through my feed, I see a post from him in all caps saying something along the lines of "OH MY GOD, FELICITY. STOP BEING SUCH A HUGE BIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!".

Arrow went wrong right at the end of Season 2, when Oliver confessed he truly did have feelings for Felicity and what he had said to lure Slade out wasn't a lie. Episodes where Felicity aren't featured heavily always seem to standout and remind me why I enjoy the show, but when she's in every scene, of every episode, it just drags the whole show down. With Season 4, we're not only forced to have Felicity shoved down our throats at every turn, but the Flashback segments for this season literally fucking blow.
It's a damn travesty.

A lot of people liked Felicity during Season 1 and up until the end of Season 2 due to her not having such a commanding lead on screen time or the show, in general. In Season 1, she was the quirky, cute girl Oliver turned to figure some of his more arduous tasks that he wasn't well versed in and he even trusted her enough to help him when he was gravely injured. In Season 2, she felt like a core member of the team and was adept at helping both Oliver and Diggle out in the field from behind a computer with a relative suspension of belief for her skills. She was there, but was still an auxiliary character that took a backseat to Oliver/Sara, which is still everyones favorite pairing. After making her the primary love interest in Season 3, she suddenly became this unstoppable "i can do anything" character who, for the most part, treats Oliver like shit and flaunts this air of superiority in every scene. In Season 4, so far, it has been worse and it's the reason why most everyone dislikes her now.

Olicity is the biggest violator of "show, don't tell" I've ever seen. The characters go out of their way to screen at the audience how much Oliver and Felicity love each other, but we've never, ever seen it.

I've seen a lot of shows go to shit in my lifetime, but I think Arrow takes the fucking cake. Looking back to season 1 and 2 makes me think of just how much enjoyment I got out of joining the talkback threads and how hype it was. Remember all the plotlines involving Slade? and Merlyn? and all the other cool shit that ACTUALLY had something to do with the fucking DC universe? It's like the flash fucked up our timeline or something and now we're stuck with a shitty soap opera where the main character's love interest might as well be the main character.
Like I said, I've seen a lot of tv shows in my life (or more than anyone I know at least), and I can say without a doubt in my mind that Arrow is the worst fucking show I've ever seen.
