That's pretty well made senpai.

there were several parts of AOU that really stood out like this scene. Cap's PTSD fueled party dream being one of them.

AoU had a lot of great moments.
>>
>>81226875
Yeah, there were parts of AoU that were very well made and that actually annoys me more because the movie was such a giant missed opportunity.

This conversation, the Vision scenes, the Wanda hallucinations were all great. I feel like Whedon is actually better at drama/serious scenes than he is at comedy, so I don't understand why he doesn't do more stuff like that and turned AoU into a quipfest.
>>
>>81226807
>>81226918

here's your (you)
>>
>>81227031
why am I getting a (you)?
>>
>>81227007
Whedon is more comfortable with comedy, so he has a bad habit of falling back on it too often. It's like he gets nervous if he writes something serious for too long.
>>
>uses AoS scenes and Jessica Jones well
I rate the breddy gud/10
>>
>>81227007
And that's not to say I want AoU to be a gritty no fun allowed movie. A movie can be more serious, but still have moments of levity and hope. Take this part

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhGPvE43aAM

>Humans are odd. They think order and chaos are somehow opposites and try to control what won't be. But there is grace in their failings. I think you missed that.
>They're doomed.
>Yes... but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts. It is a privilege to be among them.

It is a pretty sad scene, but at the same time you have Vision who sees the good in humanity and thinks mankind is still worth saving. There's hope there. It's more moments like this that I wanted from AoU.
>>
>>81227056

That's a fair assessment. I mean even his best stuff is a mixture of comedy and sudden harsh consequences. Like Buffy or Firefly. Usually it's the wise-cracking characters who get it, too. No better way get an emotional rise out of someone than to kick the dog everyone loves.

The guys still a good writer, but I hope he goes back to TV full time. He's better at characters that have a long time to develop.
>>
>>81227007
>I don't understand why he doesn't do more stuff like that and turned AoU into a quipfest.
Whedon himself blames executive meddling. by the time he'd covered everything, the runtime was a bit over three hours. They demanded he bring it down to ~140 min, and a lot of good scenes ended on the cutting room floor

Shame they never greenlit a 270 min extended cut like Avengers 1 got. the synopsis for those deleted scenes sounds like it'd make a much better movie.
>>
>>81227197
>the runtime was a bit over three hours
That's a problem though. He needs more self control in the planning phases of these movies because that is bloated.
>>
>>81227232
Yeah, it's not good when you end up with a 3 hour+ movie, because it's inevitable that the movie will turn into a mess if you have to cut a lot from it after. Whedon is poor with planning and he probably needed someone else to reign him in. There's this interview with the Russos where they said they're really obsessive about planning how the movie turns out and it counts.

>The Captain America: The Winter Soldier DVD and Blu-ray was pretty light on special features, with only three or four minues of deleted scenes at most. It led to many fans wondering whether or not there were plans for a Director's Cut or if they were holding them back for a future "Marvel Phase 2" box set. Well, talking to Collider recently, Anthony Russo had this to say about why there just wasn't that much footage left on the cutting room floor. "We come from sort of do-it-yourself independent filmmaking so we’re very smart on a producing level about where we spend our money and how we spend our money, and we just wanted to make sure everything we did was gonna end up onscreen so we worked very hard to have a tight script. So by the time we got to shooting—our shooting script is remarkably similar to the final edit of the movie." Are they holding anything back at all though?
>"That’s all we got. And we feel bad about those scenes because you can make the argument that those four minutes of footage should have stayed in the movie. But we’re hard on our material. We’re really hard on it. We like propulsive pacing. We just want to make sure it’s as tight as possible."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tStXyuvt54g

The deleted scenes in question if anyone wants to see them.
>>
>>81227374

I can't wait to see what the Infinity War versions of videos like this will be like
>>
>>81227496
One thing people often overlook while talking about TWS is the pacing. That movie had really great pacing, never once I thought the scenes were too long/boring/didn't add anything to the movie.

They mixed the actions scenes with the quiet scenes really well. I also liked how they did those tension filled moments before the action. The elevator scene comes to mind. I loved how they showed the SHIELD agents slowly entering the elevator and Cap looking at them suspiciously because I knew shit was about to go down. The payoff after those 2-3 minutes of tension was great.
>>
>>81226882
I'm not a native speaker. Why does everyone bring this up? Is it not a word? Does it sound childish?
>>
>>81227197
Whedon isn't Snyder tho, he took full responsibility for how the film turned out but he was also candid about the scenes they were going to take out and the ones they made him put in and both were awful decisions.
>>
>>81227631

Probably a lot more focus on GotG and Tony's visions.
>>
>>81227311
Same thing for James Gunn.

Whedon has way too many ideas for his own good, so he keeps fucking up. He really should find a co-director that he respects and works well with, since he can never chose what to put on screen and always goes for the 2deep4u references that end up being shallow.
>>

>>81227745

That and Whedon always overuses a joke, like Cap swearing in AoU. That one got old real quick.
>>
>>81227668
I think it's pretty indicative of how petty Tony gets around Steve because he's the only person in the world that gives him an inferiority complex.

One of the signs of autism is latching on to small inane parts of a film that no one else notices and obsessing over it, which I count as that scene and the flying trailer in Korea that everyone here flapped their arms at.

>>
>>81227779
Yes, definitely.

What bothered me the most, is that it would've made sense if it was the other way around.

Like if Cap had said 'shit', and Tony mockingly corrected him, since Cap is usually perceived to be a goody-two shoes, and swear words really affect nobody, especially in a war scenario.

Then the callbacks would've been funnier with Cap getting increasingly annoyed like he did.

>>81227806
It must be pretty sad that the guy that likes and believes in mostly everybody, doesn't really like you that much. Especially with Tony's Ego.
>>
>>81227642
i haven't seen bvs, but i hear the bad editing and amount of superfluous bullshit crammed in is just excessive

like a scene where laurence fishburne says something like "wonder what that kent boy is up to." the logical next scene would be clark, but it takes 3 more transitions to get there?

it just seems like a mess from every step of its inception

Honestly, this video is actually a pretty good example of why Age of Ultron was an essential story that needed to happen.

The Avengers were never an actual team. Fury may have galvanized them with Coulson's death and the looming threat of Loki's army, but they were never a cohesive unit that actually bonded into a fit unit. They were a house of cards of damaged people that would fall apart at the first real internal push, and Ultron essentially being the Avengers damaged child was the perfect metaphor for that.

You can argue the actual story was done poorly and that's fine, that's a discussion worth having. But it was never filler, it was a character story that needed to gome before the big brawl with Thanos.

>>81228065

That's fair. I liked it a lot but I know I'm in the minority on /co/, it's such a bizarre and idiosyncratic movie that I ended up really digging it.
>>
>>81227902
I don't think that's a thing, but have you met actual television writers? Selling pilots is a soul crushing experience that pays the bills by milking you of creativity then filing it away to never see the light of day again. Then you have to do it all over again.
But movie screenplay writing and Tv writing are two very different very deliberate things.

Whedon's issue is that he's 50 years old, rich, and bored. He got bored in the middle of AoU and realized he was writing a multi-hundred million dollar hamfisted metaphor about working for Marvel then bounced before producers realized. Now he'll go back to writing the first season of shows then fucking off because it makes him feel better.
>>
Someone should do a DC version of this.

JL mortal logo. BLACK SCREEN.
Green Lantern logo. BLACK SCREEN.
Then finally MOS and B v S clips that end with a fart noise.
>>
>>81228187
I probably would've enjoyed Age of Ultron more if I wasn't so hyped for it. I loved the first Avengers movie and I was so overjoyed when I left the cinema after seeing it.

After AoU was over, I just felt disappointment because I was expecting something else. Objectively speaking, AoU is in no way worse than Avengers, but from the first one I got exactly what I was expecting. With the second one, I expected something a bit more serious and with more high stakes from the trailers, but instead I got a sort of a rehash of the first Avengers. The trailers are probably what ruined AoU for a lot of people.

Movie until IW Part 2

Civil War - Nothing to do with IW
Doctor Strange - May contain an Infinity gem
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 - Nothing to do with IW
Spider-Man - Nothing to do with IW
Thor: Ragnarok - Called the most important phase 3 movie
Black Panther - Important for IW
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 - Important
Ant-man and the Wasp - No clue
Captain Marvel - Seems to be important
Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

First part of this phase doesn't really deal with IW, but then it seems to become more and more integral to each story
>>
>>81228289

Nah I get that AoU had plenty of problems, but what I liked about it was how fucked-up and Whdeony-dark it was.

I mean he basically made a movie about the Avengers collapsing under the weight of their own insecurities and human flaws and teaming up to murder their own child, who was basically a grotesque mirror of them. Ultron was basically written as an emotionaliy stunted and desperately lonely child who was lashing out at his "father" while trying to find his place in the world, before just losing his mind in the third act. Then it basically ends with a new generation of Avengers because the old had failed the world and were going their seperate ways or exiling themselves.

It's a pretty dark movie thematically under all the dank memes and CGI fight scenes. It taps into a lot of the good Whedon can do, in finding the human flaws in super-powered people or beings like he did on Buffy and Angel.

Then again I've never minded the quip overload these movies had, so that probably helps a lot. If I was as annoyed by them as a lot of /co/ was I'd probably dismiss at lot of the interesting and weird shit hidden under the surface.
>>
Since this is basically a MCU general, might as well post this. It appears that Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and Black Panther will be in the Captain Marvel movie. Makes sense since it comes out right after Infinity War part 1, so I expect it to be the bridge between the two parts.

>In the Captain Marvel film, Benedict Cumberbatch joins Paul Rudd, who will play Ant-Man and Chadwick Boseman, who takes the role of Black Panther. Both Paul Rudd and Cumberbatch have their own standalone movies. Cumberbatch’s Doctore Strange is due for release on November 4, while Rudd’s Ant-Man was released on July 17, 2015, in North America.
>A few names have been floated for consideration for Carol Danvers, including Emily Blunt, (Into the Woods, Edge of Tomorrow, and The Huntsman: Winter’s War), Natalie Dormer, (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2, and Captain America: The First Avenger), and Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Prometheus, and Hancock), among others.

I did the math, and that's $243,243,243 in damages per casualty.

To compare, Hiroshima cost $2 billion (1945) in damages for a death toll of 90,000–146,000, and a total ratio of $13,698.63 to $22,222.22 per casualty.
In 2016 dollars, that's $2.635 trillion, and a ratio of $18,047,945.20 to $29,477,777.80 per casualty

What I'm trying to get at is that it cost less per casualty to destroy Hiroshima than it did to bang up New York City.

This video only highlights the main problem with the presumed "interconnected" part of the MCU.

Stuff like the Inhumans in AoS and Killgrave in Jessica Jones SHOULD be relevant to Civil War, especially the Inhumans considering it's a worldwide event. However... they aren't, at all. Civil War won't reference either, the Russo Brothers have no idea what's going on on the TV shows.

It makes sense that Civil War wouldn't reference them, as expecting the general public to keep up with TV shows, one of them for audiences over the age of 18, is bad form, but at the same time shows how flimsy the interconnection between these properties really is.

Honestly, the fault falls mostly to the AoS writers who thought their (shitty) show was as important as the movies and decided to create their own world changing event inside a bigger universe that barely acknowledges them.

>>
>>81228331
I'm starting to think that this will be casualties directly attributable to the Avengers, like in the clip where the woman talks about a falling building crushing her family. Casualties like the Chitari rounding up and killing people would be put under a different metric as those represent people the Avengers failed to save rather than people the Avengers actually "killed" which is the point of Ross' speech, same thing with the damages most likely, damage brought about by the way the Avengers decided to prosecute the fight. In the comics this was actually a big deal since they blamed the deaths that triggered the Civil War on young and improperly trained heroes. The same argument can easily be applied to the Avengers by saying they haven't had sufficient training in how to operate as a team and hence need the oversight that Ross is demanding.
>>
>>81229770
Yeah, but no one gives a shit about the Inhumans.

It's a double edged sword in that it gives the show something to maintain a threat of the week, but honestly having to pay attention to every Marvel show and movie is just too much.

I like the Netflix approach where you can refer to things, but it doesn't really reflect anything.

Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Natalie Dormer and Katherine Winnick are all bad choices.

Good actresses, but they are all either in their late 30's or are starting to look old. Remember the character debuts in 3 years, and has to keep young for 7 or 8 for her trilogy if they have one or the avengers trilogy.

They need to pull a miracle cast of finding someone that doesn't age from 25-45 like Theron, McAdams, Elizabeth Banks and Chastain, and they need to find one of those ageless witches at their 30 years of age at the most to be safe.

I honestly don't know who they'll cast, but they better pull a Daisy Ridley and pick a random nobody and surprise everyone.

The best Carol actress I've seen was Rachael Taylor, who's playing Hellcat in Jessica Jones. It figures, though.

Why does Tony act like Peter is a trump card?

A new super appearing is surprising, sure, but is Spidey entering the fight that decisive? The Vision, Scarlet Witch, and some of the best fighters in the history of the world are in that airport already. What's an introverted kid from Brooklyn gonna do?

>>81230314

>>81230333
It's more than father issues, it's about fatherhood. She probably talks about her real father, before Thanos pulled a reverse cuckoo.
>>
>>81230314
They've never seen Peter fight, and don't know what he can do. He's essentially a wild card.
>>
>>81230314
Considering he's 'losing patience' I assume people start defecting from Tony's side at the airport, and Spider-Man was just Tony's ace in the hole.
>>
>>81230314
Why is Stark bringing an underaged boy to a foreign country to fight adults in the first place? Child endangerment does not scream accountability, especially when the kid is wearing a fullbody costume.
>>
>>81230314
He literally stole Cap's shield and handcuffed him, 5 seconds into the fight, after tony called his costume an Underoos. Also Spider-Sense.

They should really try and grab some of Robert California's lines from the Office. He says a lot of pretentious and mean things there.

>>81230401
I think a middle ground would've been nice. He cracked jokes in the more tense situations. Jokes at the party scene would've been better, since he should be trying to relate to the Avengers. He should've started lighter and ended darker, not the other way around.

Honestly, with all the religious alegory, and the daddy issues and lack of personal connection, Ultron seems like a retroactive parody of Zack Snyder.
>>
>>81230383
so he got the jump on him. there's nothing that says cap's incapacitated for the whole rest of the fight, or that he or anyone else will get caught off guard by webs again.

Darker as in angrier and cracking less jokes. More serious, but only at the end, since it was the climax of the movie. Last scene with Vision was cool, he should've been like that since his fight with Thor/Vision. His attitude didn't match his actions.

For what purpose?
It would add nothing to the film.
>>
>>81230756
Sure it would, tension.

I don't know what you people want, but there's a time and a place for everything, and just because BvS could've done with more levity, AoU's criticism isn't any less valid.

I don't think the movie was bad, I actually think it's a better movie than the first one, but Ultron should've had less jokes than he did. You can show emotion and not crack jokes.

There are such things as 'too much' and 'too little' and the thresholds aren't the same for every movie. Some people here think that there is only one absolute way to do a movie and that would mean by definition that only one possibly good movie can be made. It gets especially annoying. Guardians and WS has different percentages of jokes and they are both great fucking movies.

You have to match tone. 0% and 100% generally suck, and a movie like Ultron, about the Avenger's first big loss and moment of doubt should've had a bunch less. Note that less doesn't mean 0, it means not as many. Is it so hard for people to grasp relativity?

If it doesn't fit in the story, I don't mind. They had Hulk come out of Iron Man's in early drafts of Ultron, which they couldn't fit. You'll notice that when they are discussing how they should approach Ultron, Stark says to Banner that Ultron hates 'Iron Man' the most, and Hulk doesn't feature much in the final battle outside the church.

I think they made the right call, or the Banner/Widow thing would've been extra pointless, even though it's a great fucking idea.

Yeah you're right, I'm just hoping it will still be in there.
After all, if defeating Thanos wouldn't do it, a human lifting one of the legendary artefacts of the asgardians would definetly earn the respect for Earth in the MCU, which would be further reason for new, alien storylines and characters to be introduced.
>>
>>81231994
I certainly wanted him to be more than one-note.

His chats with the twins, for instance, were great, but he undermined himself a lot with his weird little moments like "What's the word for children?"

If it was meant to be funny, it wasn't. If it was meant to give him quirks, it fell flat. It just broke the tension and made him seem lame to go from so well-spoken to fumbling for his words when he's clearly had time to ruminate on this and get his thoughts in order.
>>
>>81231683
I'd like to add that if they do that whole walk to Thanos, It should be with skinny Steve barely fitting the Cap Uniform and lifting the shield, with Thanos pimp-slap breaking the shield throwing him near Mjolnir thus triggering these events.

Since the four Russos love Cap and write them better than anyone, I have no doubts they'd do it this way.
