That being said, he also admits a couple times that shit like this scene is as much a part of him as his day job and his friends, Something he couldn't give up if he tried. Matt loves being Daredevil because he's been kicked around all his life and loves getting back at the kind of people who did the kicking and as long as he's morally justified, he can enjoy every punch.

Frank, pretty reasonably, probably didn't think you could break a chain with a single bullet. He didn't know about Daredevil's super senses. In an earlier scene, we see DD testing his chains, and he detects a weakness in them, which is why he's able to shoot and break them later.

handguns are really haphazard. if you only fire one bullet a ridiculous amount of factors outside your control decide if that bullet will be lethal or not. You could aim for a non-vital spot but a sudden twitch or sneeze of theirs causes you to graze an artery, or they go into shock, or have a preexisting condition like anemia or a heart defect, just die of an infection because the wound wasn't treated fast enough, or who knows what else.

He doesn't use guns because he doesn't like guns, as he says in season 1. But that doesn't mean he would suck with them. Daredevil is an expert marksman with throwing weapons, and would be a good shot too, even better than normal people, but he doesn't because they are loud, heavy, lethal and probably for the criminal element associated with them as well. Also he doesn't need them.
People wouldn't hail him as a hero vigilante if he shot people, he'd be labeled a psycho like the Punisher is.

With how much the CGI would cost, probably never. If it does happen, it should lead up to a Midnight Sons series with Blade and Morbius and Werewolf By Night. All of these will also be CGI heavy so there is even less of a chance of this whole thing happening.
HOWEVER, seeing as these current shows are just being eaten up by the public, Marvel might throw more money at the Netflix team. They could get away with more effects by doing less characters on the team, thus dividing the money into larger portions. They could also do less episodes per season for effects heavy shows. Maybe more of a miniseries for each character.
If they wanted to get really crazy, they could make Ghost Rider and his other horror counterparts villains the Defenders have to fight but later realize are good guys. Maybe they could adapt the Ultimate Ghost Rider story where he is after the Vice President because he made a deal with the devil. The Avengers don't know the VP is evil and try to stop GR but once they realize what's up they help him. Just replace the Avengers with the Defenders and the VP with the Mayor of NYC or something along those lines. This would work because you still get cool Ghost Rider action but he has little screen time because he's the antagonist. They can go nuts with the CGI budget when he is there if he is on screen less.
