That shits been happening for decades. It's like people forgot the 90's-00's legacy diversity hires. Admittedly, most have been swept under rug to bring the OG people back, but this is really nothing new. Most, if not all, of this latest wave will fizzle out and be replaced by the originals at some point too.
I think Kamala succeeded because it's a diversity push that's honestly an actually good comic and where the diversity aspect is important to the character, the story, and handled well. It was therefore able to capitalize on the press given to these things were a comic of equal quality without that advertising might not have. The problem with diversity pushes has never been the diversity itself, it's been that the vast majority are usual thoughtless and mediocre stories at best, clearly meant to try and score some easy PR. And you can't critique it without being called a racist or sexist or whatever.
