What does /co/ think of ultimatum?
>>81208502
worst Marvel Event
killed the Ultimate Universe
>>81208502
There is no other event out there of its quality
>>81208502
While shit, I hated Ultimates 3 more.
>>81208676
would anyone TLDR; me about it?
I just know a lot of gore was on it
Dumb and shitty, but gave up some pretty cool Spidey moments.Basically the same as the rest of the Ult U.
>>81208676
It was a mercy killing after Loeb did the turd that was Ultimates 3.
>>81208789
magneto messes with the earths magnetic poles or something and ends up killing a shit load of people and heroes
then more people die because, and logan gets killed by like magneto controlling cyclop's visor while he was wearing it or something and then cyclops kills magneto
>>81208789
Magneto mad his kids got killed
"Fuck this gay Earth!" and diddles the magnetic field of the Earth to flood New York City because magnets lol.
the surviving heroes are pissed. fightin' more death. Madrox suicide bombers. cannibalism.
Edgy, not the nebelous buzzword its become today but the actual intended use. It was unnecessarily dark

>>81209274
Let's not forget about how it basically offed half the characters in the universe and completely derailed several plotlines
Superb in both form and substance, this is a towering work of genius, a tribute to human creativity and a masterpiece that forever elevated the art of comics.
They should reboot the Ultimate universe and make it their new version of Vertigo. Have writers and artists do whatever they want and keep it separate from the main universe like they originally did.
>>81208789
Part of Loeb's grieving process is killing off most of a universe and shoehorning a hero named after his son into everything.
>>81209044
And it was all part of Quicksilver's plan somehow?
>>81208502
Probably kept Jeph Loeb from killing himself after the loss of his son.
>>81209274
Ok, I want to read this now.

Underrated comment
>>81210430
It really is not good, not even in a "so bad it's good" way.
>>81208676
this is true
is it the worst event ever, and iirc, Loeb was pretty much mentally ill when he wrote it because of his sons death.
>>81210430

IT GAVE ME AIDS. AND CANCER. CANCERAIDS

>>81210430
you cant imagine how bad it is. it is the product of a person is a bad mental state, something Marvel shouldnt have allowed to happed.
>>81209801
And had that happened, we might not have gotten MCU Daredevil.
Ultimate Comics died so CAPEKINO could live.

My god, you're right. Holy shit that puts things into perspective.

Technically, that's already what Icon is. They should never have renamed Epic to Icon though, since most of the best stuff they put out was under the Epic label. Only things of note they've ever done once it was turned into Icon were the Millarworld books and Powers.

YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME JARED!
The Ultimate Universe was releasing such quality products at one point. Ultimates 1 and 2 were fantastic, Spidey was at that time 100% quality, and despite the amount of authors it had Ultimate X-Men was doing fine as well. Even some of the other stuff eventually allowed for some good shit like evil Reed Richards.
Then Loeb got to write the cancer that is Ultimates 3. That was the true beginning to the downfall of the Ultimate Universe. Nobody liked that pile of garbage. But despite that, Loeb got to write an event in the Ultimate Universe.
If Ultimates 3 is a cancer, Ultimatum is an affront to everything good in existence. What makes a lot of it so awful isn't necessarily the senseless killing, but the straight up retconning/out of character actions/inconsistencies with the material that already exists that lead to said senseless killing. Ultimatum didn't just wreck the Ultimate universe by killing off so many characters, but made it nigh impossible to salvage the damn thing because of how awful his writing throughout the event was. It is by far the worst event ever written, and it's quite amazing that he still got to hold high positions in Marvel after it considering how well the Ultimate Universe was doing and how much Marvel was getting from sales and even movie influence off of the Ultimate Universe.
>>81210976
>>81211040
I can't imagine that he does anything good for Marvel TV, he literally had to be quarantined to the position after creating yet another insert character for his son. When he got the job he immediately nuked all the animated programming because of its narrative complexity
Oh I love this book. Keep on going man.
I don't wanna, i don't wanna
>>81211400
>When he got the job he immediately nuked all the animated programming because of its narrative complexity
I remember, we were all there.
Remember when you discovered that setting your action figures on fire was more entertaining than just playing with them? That's Ultimatum.
>>81208502
At its broadest a good story idea and one that had it been done well would have shook the ultimate line in cool way.
Instead it erased personalities and killed waaaaay to many characters. Some of which where needlessly killed
>>81211190
Nothing makes me more fucking FURIOUS than the way Loeb writes Ultimate Thor. He just turned him into an Edgier 616 Thor!
Ultimate Thor was the best thing about Ultimates 1 and 2, then we get this. Hickman's origin was able to salvage some of it, and a later retcon that I believe Millar did retconned him speaking the way he does as a joke which Stark then pays him to stop doing.
Millar's return to Ultimate Comics was basically him trying to fix the damage that had been done then pretty quickly going "eh, fuck it" and going off the rails. His Ultimate Avengers was something I despised when first reading it, but going back and reading it as the ridiculous almost parody of the original Ultimate Universe that it is, it's amazing. Tony suddenly having a richer and smarter older brother, going absolute edge with Red Skull, making "the first hulk" a literal Giga-Nigga, and fucking Vice-President Ghost Rider.
Now Ultimate Avengers is a comic that needs storytimed. It walks the very fine line between hilarious and awful.
>>81211267
>hey, all those characters you liked?
>time to KILL 'EM ALL!
>>81211081
Daredevil doesn't even do anything and he never got an Ultimate ongoing why is he on the cover
>>81211338
ok I lol'd thanks anon.
>>81211683
He and Elektra had a mini
>>81211614
Ultimate Avengers is the most terrible comic I have ever enjoyed reading. I can't in good conscience call it parody, at least not until the Ghost Rider arc, but Millar has a talent for making bad comics that are just so overboard they're fantastic. The whole thing is just "what if the Ultimates were bigger and badder and fucked more bitches" with the occasional moment of self awareness shining through.Hawkeye looking at the devastation left in the wake of the Vice President becoming a Ghost Rider and saying "My god, we're supposed to be Black Ops" comes to mind
I'd honestly love to storytime it, but I know longer have it on my computer and none of the torrents I've found are functioning.
>>81208502

It's just the perfect balance of total shit, you know? I think my personal favourite moment is when we hear that terrible story about what Red Skull did to some scientists family, then about 3 pages later Red Wasp goes "Remember that story? Well, I was kind of the woman in it".

>>81213144
Was this Loeb's version of therapy after his son's death?
Did Jeph think that the Ultimate Universe was being cancelled? Because that's how this reads.
atleast the art is pretty
jesus fuck I need to read/look to something happy after all this mess
>>81213144
Oh, I know why. Like, I can't even be angry at how shitty this whole event is, just... sad. I can only imagine they gave him an event to write in the hopes that keeping him busy would keep his mind off of things, but instead he just poured everything into his writing, and this is the horrible result.
>>81209274
I'm not terribly familiar with the Ultimates but wasn't this incarnation of the Blob a pretty polite and peaceful guy?
>>81213230
Ultimates had started to fall under the weight of its on continuity, which defeated its original purpose, so they brought Loeb on to "shake things up" in the hopes of having it deviate more from 616 and become its own thing.
And to be fair, that's exactly what he did. It's just that his way of doing it was fucking murdering everyone.
>>81212390
>Daddy
HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG
>>81213230
It was. Ultimate universe was a new line of comics to get new readers on board since the common complaint for new readers is "too much backstory I don't know where to start".
So it was a fresh start for new readers to come in with the big heroes given new modern takes on their stories. Then the books started getting close to issue 100 and suddenly it wasn't a new reader title anymore and the same complaint started picking up again.
So they decided to end the universe, but long term fans and decent sales didn't really give them a reason to kill it off entirely. So instead they killed off a lot of the major characters and started focusing on new characters instead while retooling some of the old ones to better fit in the ultimate universe. But the damage was done and sales were dropping. So it officially ended with just miles (as far as I know) being the only one brought over to Marvel Universe.
I think there's been some hints that possibly Ultimate Thor survived, and the whole Ultimate X-Men civil war, while not high selling did have a cult following so some of them might pop back in, especially Kitty and Wolverine Jr.
>>81212416
Why the fuck is magneto holding mjolnir? Explain
>>81212273
all things considered, the "I will do it in three" line is still kinda cool.
>>81213363
That Jean Grey is literally the only good thing to come out of this mess.
>>81213319
Yeah, if memory serves his last appearance before Ultimatum was an actually pretty touching bit where he met his long lost daughter.
>>81213319
Loeb isn't well known for familiarizing himself with FUCKING ANYTHING when he writes things.
Plus everyone in this series is taking retard pills, look at Magneto letting some bitch chop his arm off before he remembers "Oh yeah, I can control that metal sword, huh?'" >>81213190
>>81213319
Yes. Pretty much the worst thing he'd done up to this point was trolling Beast by pretending to be a qt teen girl in a chatroom and flirting with him.
Pyro had also become a hero, yet they turn him into a rapist here.
>>81213483
magnets nigga
>>81213190
Of all the stupid shit in this event, this is probably the most egregious. Not only does Magneto easily allow his arm to be cut off by a metal sword, he then immediately uses his powers to grab it, negating any possible "well, it was magic or something so he couldn't affect it."
>>81213515
And don't forget this >>81213544 where Cyclops forgets how to close his eyes, and Tony's armor is forced to shoot repulsors because he's pointing at someone.
>>81211204
sooo DC exists in marvel and at the same time had fused with it. Does that mean there was a DC comics in the Amalgamate saga?
>>81213590
Fucking Magnetos, how do they work?
>>81208676
we have Convergence, an event that literally killed the Ultimate Universe, this is still true
>>81213449
>So it officially ended with just miles (as far as I know) being the only one brought over to Marvel Universe
Ultimate Reed Richards/The Maker survived too. He's the main antagonist of New Avengers, and technically the main 616 Reed Richards for the time being since 616 Reed is busy being God.
Ultimate Thor's hammer also survived and will become 616 Thor Odinson's Mjolnir while Jane is still kicking around with his.

Why the fuck does realizing that he wasn't actually chosen by god affect him so much, he was an insane terrorist since day one and god didn't really play a role into his rhetoric or actions until Ultimatum.
>>81212845

S-so Magneto did this cause his kids died but not really, and everyone else just got a case of Death-itus or something. Also I thought Magneto talked to the metal, so what kind of bullshit is this that Magneto talked to the very earth and got it to JUST everything up.
Why did marvel even think letting a mentally unstable edgelord who's son died, and let him add all this meaningless bullshit. was all that character development was for nothing? And just pointing it out, why didn't anyone stop this from happening?
I had never read Ultimatum, only heard how poor it was.
