Yes. It showcased the comedy of UG to a larger audience which is good because UG is funny as hell
Also the fanservice for SU was topnotch with Mr Gus' gemsona and the exaggerated personalities of the gems

/sug/ was mad when it was first announced but quickly calmed down when Sugar revealed she was the one who asked for the crossover and that the SU staff would be handling the majority of the writing. Only heavily autistic people were mad after that point.

Basically the theme of the episode pretty much summed up the fan reaction as well: Just like the gems, people were freaking the fuck out by Uncle Grampa and his weirdness invading their normal and story-driven show with random goofyness even thought the whole point was to have some fun.
