Just picked up Punisher Max and loved it. Decided to read marvel now Punisher and I get a couple of pages in and see Frank sitting at a bar and smiling. this kind of put me off, and decided to put it down for now. Is this series any good? I know maybe I shouldn't have started with the best its all downhill now.
It's mediocre. Read Rucka Punisher instead if you are looking for a recent series

Same as Edmonson's Black Widow run. The story is kinda bland but the art is fantastic and makes up for it. Both books were the highlight of my pull when it was out.

I don't know. I liked him in this run. He wasn't happy go lucky or anything, but he at least had some personality other than sad murder man.
I have no problem with Frank smiling, but Edmonson Frank felt way too normal. He came off as a pure action hero. Most Punisher stories(Dixon, Grant, etc) have this "I've seen some shit" atmosphere that was severely missing here.

I remember Fraction Frank possibly being even worse, at least after the Civil War tie-in issues.
