There were essentially two big incidents that got a bunch of Tumblrinas angry at Michelle C.
First, a couple of minor characters teased their older brother for being a virgin. That sent out alarms to the asexual/aro "community" that the comic was saying "it's okay to make fun of someone for lack-of-sexual/romantic interest." Never mind that the character in question didn't expressly read as aro/ace. It was basically an incidence of "reverse slut-shaming" I guess you'd call it, and a hoard of Tumblists got all pissy and sent critical tweets/messages to Michelle demanding an apology. I don't remember if she capitulated or not.
Secondly, Michelle posted an artistic drawing of one of her characters semi-naked in a sensual pose, and another where a character's dress was slightly see-through. Both characters were underaged (14 and 16 IIRC), and neither image showed naughty body parts. However, a whole BUNCH of Tumblists took offense because they saw it as "sexualizing underaged characters, which is ALWAYS wrong." This is a popular rallying cry for folks who experienced childhood sexual abuse on Tumblr. The hate was massive, there were all kinds of "kill yrself" anonymous threats. It fed that horrible Tumblr hivemind cycle where the instigators of backlash say things like "She needs to apologize! She's being horrible! But don't go threaten her or antagonize her, my dear followers, because it's wrong." Threats inevitably happen, but the instigators have that plausible deniability.
The hate mob was so reactionary that it caused Michelle to turn her art Tumblr over to someone else to run it for her, and withdrew from fan interaction. The Tumblists declared victory and maintained their victimhood, saying shit like "SHE NEVER APOLOGIZED FOR PROMOTING SEXUALIZATION OF CHILDREN."

No, the author did a kickstarter and it raised enough money to commission a short animation, so she has been wasting god knows how many months story boarding it along with the other kickstarter bullshit.
