>Mfw the wife says she likes Marvel movies because they aren't nerdy and because they're funny

Pure cancer, this shit is the worst thing to happen to Marvel from a real fan perspective.....this is the world we live in, humor should be the main priority of comic book heroes and it should try to alienate nerds cause they suck

Anybody who supports this crap is cancer, pic related is you...in the girls position
>>
I feel like those kind of interactions don't actually exist.
More like,
>Oh, do you read batman?
>No, I just like the movies.
>Okay

Only on the internet where they don't actually have to confront someone would they get pissy.
>>

>being proud of being the guy in the pic
lmao everyone calls you a sperg and you're ok with this
>>
Those are some hot opinions there guy. If it fucks with you so much, get a divorce and go live in a cave where no one can hurt you or your comic book sensibilities. Make sure the bear you room with is up to snuff first though.
>>
Let's be real.

Comics have always been a hobby for perpetual adolescents. There are less than a dozen brilliant gems in the entire medium.

I'm not saying 'stop liking them', just have some perspective about it.
>>
>>81160429
i got a title wrong once at my LCBS and the guy who corrected me has been an asshole to me whenever i'm there ever since. he overheard me and a friend talking about a concert we were excited to go to and from across the store shouted about how they sucked. i don't see him act this way to other customers, and i'm usually the only woman in the shop... these facts MAY not be related, though...

Get off this board and go back to Tumblr, I know 4chan is trendy now or something (what else would explain the presence of you people in mass in the last two years) but fuck off to your home

>>81160429
That isn't what the comic is saying
>>
>>81160429
Yeah man, what sort of sperg antagonizes strangers on the street? If anything he'll say "cool" because he's trying to get it on with the girl.
>>
>>81160545

next time tell him ''it doesn't matter, I just go there to get laid with hot and muscular guys'' and he will be crushed.

to anything just reply that, its not about you getting laid, is about telling the guy about how anyone but him is atractive enough to fuck
>>
>>81160587
I'm talking about the entire medium.

Outside of Marvel & DC there isn't as much brilliance unfettered by corporate profit margins as you seem to imply.
>>
>>81160648
Then he'd call her a slut, and the cycle would be complete.
>>
>>81160688

besides when dorks call girl sluts is always because of them being jelly of the girls

>>
>>81160772
>A girl who wears shirts for shit she isn't even interested in is the desperate one
It's just a shirt, goddamn. Nobody thinks wearing a band t-shirt will get them laid.
>>
>>81160649
What is your criteria here? I'm done if you're one of those faggots who thinks like "if it's not a realistic personal drama it's not worthy of being called great"
If you're not like that I'd direct you to creators like Dave Sim, David Mazzuchelli, Joe Sacco, Harvey Pekar, Pheobe Glockner, Moebius or Charles Burns
Comics really don't have a worse ratio of good to bad material than any other medium, think about how much shit music and how many shit movies there are
>>
>>81160831
Yes they do. If you were a shirt or any clothing that has something on it that you know nothing about, you're just a poser and deserve to be called out 24/7

>>
>>81161191
I didn't even know Dredd was a comic book until a little while ago. Never saw the original either.

Also, you don't know what a false flag is.

>>81161232
The point where you can't beat the puzzle?
>>
>>81161174
It's that and also intimidation by nerds who think that if regular people enter their circle, they no longer will be special for being part of the cycle. They think you have to earn the right to read a comic or think a design is neat, and experience the pain they did or else it's not 'real'.
>>
>>81161232

Did she actually make the item, though? I mean, she's wearing a portal shirt, too. Did she make the shirt? Or did she just buy this shit for a game she didn't even like enough to finish?

No it isn't, it isn't the same as buying a fucking 3 dollar ball cap at a gas station even though you don't like your home team just because you need a hat. Comic book merch, band merch, movie merch, etc is almost ALWAYS overpriced...meaning if you buy it you're buying it for a reason

If that reason isn't supporting something you're passionate about, you're a shitty attention whore using a medium you don't support to get approval from others

>>
>>81161585
>what's wrong with liking a design?

The swastika is as important to some people as the Batman logo is, or any other symbol.

Wearing it for fashion is an insult to those it has meaning to because you're basically saying "this means nothing", and if you DO do this, being defensive about it is the wrong way to go....admit you're a whore, don't say LOL ONLY NERDS LIKE THIS ANYWAY, while you're fucking wearing a symbol that nerds made important, if you don't get this I don't get why you're on this board

Not only that, but as I said this kind of merchandise isn't cheap, it's double to tripple the cost of a regular shirt for a graphic tee most times, so if you're buying it chances are you have some reasoning for it "this is hip, this is cool, etc"
>>
I know how you feel OP. my wife's son told me he prefers marvel for the same reasons. Why can't they appreciate art?

Still, owning a physical prop is worth a lot more nerd cred in my book than having finished a video game. Especially a critically acclaimed and approachable game like Portal. Portal is pretty mainstream.

This incredibly stupid line of thought is even funnier when modern culture, and most of America's culture in the first place, is about mishmashing icons into subversive or irreverent forms. Do you have to research the history of circuses before you can wear a Superman shirt? What form do you need to sign, and how many 1930s films do you need to watch before you become worthy of putting on a Mickey Mouse swimsuit? Your stupid barrier to entry is totally imaginary.

She came out of BvS loving Lois and Wonder Woman until I started explaining what I didn't like about them based on my comic book reading experience.

In what worlds are Moebius and Burns realistic? Their works are predominantly filled with surrealism, Burns even uses that weirdness for humor and/or horror in all his work. Hell even Sacco's newest book is a absurdist political satire, which isn't even a new concept to him.

You don't take that out on the person or think they've infiltrated your secret club though. Not everybody who likes your thing likes your thing as much as you like your thing. It is necessary to wear clothes.
It is nice to wear clothes you like, and clothes you think look nice.

This is as deep as the thought needs to go. They have no obligation to advertise their hobbies or interests with their clothing. A Batman shirt doesn't send any message other than you've maybe heard of Batman and don't think he's a total douchebag. Also, stop wrapping your entire identity around which franchises you like best, it's stupid.

I've met geeks who get *super* territorial over their fandoms. Like, one time, many many years ago, as our group was talking, someone said the phrase "Who could ask for more?". To which the geek responded "It's a dead man's party". I, being a lyric geek, immediately made the song connection and responded "leave your body and soul at the door."
And the guy gets defensive about it. What right do I have to know anything about Oingo Boingo? He bets I don't even know their latest album title. Tells me I'm not a real fan, and tries to just silence me throughout the rest of the conversation, which had 0 to do with Oingo Boingo.
What was worse was he lied to me about them in order to make himself look better. I was still naieve and impressionable at this point, but it was not a positive encounter with a different fandom.

Whatever clothes you put on - it sends certain signal to the world. If you dress in business suit it says "I'm here to do business". If you put on police uniform it says "I'm officer on duty". Evening dress means you are here to party hard with classy ladies and gentlemen.

Is this some kind of sick fetish to keep sending the same false signal over and over again, and complain when it's misread?

Any number of reasons. Either a new game comes out that I'm more interested in playing at the time, or I get stuck on a certain part, decide I'll come back to it later, and never do, or I just don't have the time to play it anymore because I started a new job or something. Just because I haven't beaten them yet doesn't mean I'm never going to get back to them. There are very few games I've straight up given up on.

I'm playing Fallout 4 right now. I know that I should be playing FFXII because I'm enjoying it and REALLY want to beat it, but Automatron just came out and I wanna do that too. As far as problems go, having too many video games to play is not a bad one to have.

I'm still finding it difficult to understand how you can find enough issues with a game that you have no desire to finish it, and still say you love it.

Sure I play some games that have some errors/bad parts but if I love it enough I'm still finishing it. Like something I love should be something that's not going to make me frustrated, or where I can forgive it enough for being a great game for 90% of it while having a few tedious parts.

From the perspective of social identity, clothing is symbolic is group membership. Given that humans are social animals that identify with their own "tribes" of ingroup members while ignoring or ostracizing outgroup members, the symbolic use of clothing can easily serve as a sign that a person is a member of a shared ingroup identity.

That is, the clothing is an indicator of whether or not a person is part of the same "tribe" as the perceiver. In the case of comic book fandom, a hobby that has long been in the extreme minority, wearing a piece of clothing indicates to a fan that the wearer is a member of this small and often mocked social group. Thus, if it is revealed that the wearer is not a member of this social group, but is rather an outgroup member, it is logical from a fairly basic human evolutionary standpoint that the comic fan would feel a sense of betrayal, or even rage because they have essentially been tricked into thinking the wearer is a member of their "tribe".

Clothing plays a huge role in how we identify and with what social groups we hold membership. In the same vein, it affects how all others perceive us and our social identity. This is more than just wearing a Batman T-shirt. Consider how you can visually identify members of a social group (goth, hipster, professional) by looking at their clothing.

I'm a PhD student who studies games, fandom, and social identity. My thesis is actually on the importance of clothing in MMOs. It's really cool shit.
>>
>>81164047
Clothing with political nature is specifically made and worn to send a message. A tee with a Batman logo is made and worn to look nice. There is no inherent message except the fictional one you keep claiming people betray.
