Are flash animators a dying breed? Why is it no one makes flash cartoons anymore just for the fun of it and the only one that did decided to do gaming blogs instead

People still make flash animations, you know.

There are various reasons. One being that it is extremely hard to gain recognition based on your own merit. So you could make something amazing and only receive 15 views. The incentive is low when people are dumb and only enjoy things "they know" even if the things "they know" are only a few years old. Humans adapt quick.

Youtube happened.
Montization changed to a point where they have to make longer animations to make enough bank to live off of. The same change in practice made it where Lets plays/reactions can profit more and even make a living.

So basically, dealing with out of home jobs, daily life, ect is slowing animators that got a second wind with web animations. Youtube just made it worse.
Guessing this was what happened to CartoonHangover
>>
>>81158295
That's just depressing to look at.

Jesus, does cartoon hangover make originals anymore? Like, Bravest Warriors, Bee and Puppycat, are they in production anymore? I liked them a lot.

There's no money in it any more.

Animation takes a shitload of time to do, and if you can't reasonably make ANY money on it, there's no reason for adults to do it. It was fine when all the animators were a bunch of teenagers who didn't have to pay bills, but now it's not feasible to expect them to put all that effort into something they won't be in any way compensated for.

Some went the patreon route, but a lot just switched to other things.

because flash is a shit software. most independent animators rather work on paper and then scan it.

9/10 good knee slapper there buddy!

It used to be that I could make 10k off a one minute cartoon that took me a month to make.

Now it takes me six months a to a year to produce a 10 minute cartoon and make the same money. I got a job as a writer instead.
>>
>>81157584
they don't make much money compared to the time it takes to make them
>>
>>81158295
to make it clearer, YT threw number of views under the bus and made it more proportional to number of views X length of content.
>>
Sleepycabin's talked about this exact subject extensively.

It boils down to, "Let's plays are way easier to make, animation takes time, by the time we get anything done animating a lot of people forget we exist or hate the animation, a day without an upload is a drop in rating and subscribers, Youtube absolutely hates animators now and wants to fuck over as many as possible for the juicy LP money"

>Flash is terrible for animation.
>With YouTube New grounds is largely passe
>The major posterboys of it were pretty juvenile, riding mostly on ripping off videogames.
>without major incentive they are put against more professional animators.
>You're not twelve anymore.
>>
>>81164504
I thought the length of viewing thing was for youtube red only?
>>
>>81157584
They migrated to Youtube, and for awhile it was a good gig. But Youtube changed how revenue is generated, making it based on minutes watched if I remembered correctly. So a guy who puts out 40 minute lets-plays every day makes tons of money, while an animator who slaves for months to produce a five-minute animation makes next to nothing.

I think it's better, at least in the consideration to these assholes bending over to get a click. Now they have to make something to keep people's attention.

>But now it's not profitable to make short animations!

Animation has never been profitable. Anyone doing it for profit will eventually go as cheap and pandering as possible just to increase their small margins.

>tfw Bravest Warriors ended up in a decent cliffhanger and still no word about the new season
>tfw Bee & Puppycat had a decent pilot but a horrible premiere that looked even worse than the pilot itself
>tfw the last animations they've posted a long time ago were from a chilean studio and those had interesting premises yet were so short you couldn't even get what the fuck was going on

Also, apart from the fact that Youtube changed his system to priorize viewer retention and frequent uploads, I guess the few ones that are left are just dedicated to making animated shorts for LP channels (except maybe for HDD, who's still making shorts for his own channel).

I mean, sometimes it's a good thing because they promote talented people (and since animation is hard, at least they have a decent income), but to be honest the quality of the cartoons themselves are meh, and mostly because they have to stick with the shitty punchlines from the original source material.

Last time I've checked, Zach and Chris are still working on their Hellbenders pilot and Cory and Mick are dedicated to the videogame they're developing with Tom Fulp (founder of NG).
>>
>>81158295
Honestly then why the fuck even try to compete on that medium? If your shit doesn't work for television, you wouldn't put it on television.
>>
>>81157584
>>81158295
and nothing of value was lost
Newgrounds faggots are cancer
>>
>>81165848
I've been watching Zach's twitch streams on and off for the past month, I can't believe how long it really takes for them to make anything. He spends about two hours on about as many seconds of footage, and they aren't even close to being done. If cancer worked this slowly, they'd have cured it decades ago.
>>
I grew up watching a lot of flash cartoons and have always wanted to make my own. For the last 5 months I've been privately working on my own animated opus, hoping that it'll give me cred & recognition in the internet animation industry.

But what is more likely is that I post it to youtube and 15 people watch it before it fades into obscurity.

Basically, how fucked am I?
>>
>>81165438
Any Malu
>>
>>81166027
Zach is just being a slow shit because he spends more time trying to entertain the chat than actually animating.

I'm sure he works more quickly on his own.

If you're active on social media and if you're not get your ass on that ASAP and shill yourself out then you have a chance of getting some buzz, and the best you can hope for is that everyone who follows you will like it and get other people to get on board. If you're really lucky someone more famous will notice you and do some shilling for you but keep in mind this a "best case scenario" thing. If that happens, you'll probably get a lot more people following you and awaiting your next work.

But keep in mind that your chances of being anything more than internet famous aren't very likely, and making a living off of it is damn near impossible. Your best possible income won't happen until you're actually popular enough to sell merchandise or something, or set up a patreon that people would be wiling to donate to. That's just if you're in it for the money; if you're in it for the art or just trying to get your name out, and are perfectly happy with people just seeing/enjoying your work, then do as I mentioned before and hope for the luck of the draw.

ITT no one realizes the cartoons they see on TV are made with Flash.

Flash is only dead as far as the web is concerned (which is a good thing), but it is alive and well for real animation.
>>
Are there any flash animators from the interweb that have gone mainstream? I heard tell of a Hellbenders pilot but then nothing for a long time? Is it a thing that can happen?
>>
>>81164209
>he still thinks flash is good
nigger most people have switched to toon boom already and an even better program is on the horizon that has been used by ghibli and futurama, get fucked
>>
>>81166027
It's because they keep redrawing the lines in Flash like hundred times so it looks more professional. The thing they should understand is that nobody watches their animations for how clean they look, they watch them for the writing. Just look at how shit Egoraptor's animations look and the moment he tried to look more professional with PokeAwesome, his writing started sucking.
>>
have anyone of you fags ever used daily motion instead of giving YouTube a monopoly
>>
>>81167500
Speak for yourself.

Hellbenders' charm is both the writing and the way they animate. They want to create something they can actually show as a cartoon, and I love how clean it ends up looking.

Egoraptor's writing didn't start sucking because the animation got better. The writing started to suck because he wasn't doing it more often. He wasn't interested in trying to create scenarios once Game Grumps happened and he could focus on improvisation, a different sort of comedy.
>>
I think Ego had the right idea. Internet animators are delusional if they think they can make a living off their own work without any support. I hated Ego when he decided to stop animating to do Game Grumps and NSP, and even more when he the only animations he posted were NSP music videos that were outsourced to Yotta but now I see the sense in it. No one that actually stuck to animation has actually made anything out of it.

their ad model involves continually rotating ads onscreen, the longer the vid is the more ads they can dump onscreen
>>
>>81165015
frederator are cheap jews and B&PC's orgiinal designs cost too much to animate at rates frederator would pay for hence the sloppy redraws

>DUDE EGORAPTOR GETTING KEKED BY HIS 3/10 GF LMAO

Cucked as in the fetish, as in getting cheated on or as something completely unrelated to sex?

Right now with the abuse the word has gone through I never know what people here mean when the term is thrown around.
>>
>>81164304
Why not just get a job as an animator? If you were good enough to make a six figure salary you'd have no problem getting a job
>>
>>81172107
UkinoJoe and HotDiggedyDemon are two animators that seem totally self-sustaining but they clearly have an ungodly amount of devotion to their craft. They are special exceptions. A lot of animators on the web don't have the level of devotion necessary to be self-sustaining. They would be better off making pitches and becoming showrunners.

>tfw even "professional" animators like Rebecca Sugar are prone to using massive shortcuts so the animation looks weightless and cheap

Imagine someone not getting a paycheck from it.
>>
>>81172989
>the spoiler
Yeah, I get it, it's a new buzzword, but it's different from faggot or autist. Those two pretty much remain forever as adjectives or nouns, as insults. Even if they don't mean anything for this site, at least we can know it's meant to be pejorative.

But with "cuck" I always get confused because it can be both an adjective, a noun and a verb, and it's used with such a broad margin of meaning that it's literally impossible to know what some people are saying when using it.

Anyways I'm not saying anything useful to the thread so I'm gone.
