Look I can enjoy gritty stories like Netflix Daredevil. I fucking loved Season 2 though the first 4 episodes were the best in my opinion. Daredevil and the Punisher are vigilantes that deal with urban crime so no shit they're grimdark.
But sometimes you want to see the optimistic side of capes. The Flash is painfully flawed for being a CW show, but it has so much heart and love put into its lore that shout-outs that I love every episodes.

Shorter, simpler CG scenes, lots of reused effects shots, and budgeting to spend bigger on a few shots rather than every episode.
Take Gotham for example. Notice how the show changed from season 1 to 2. The cast is smaller, the location shots are less often than the regular sets, the cityscape scenes (NYC up'd to be Gotham with more buildings and other details) are re-used a lot rather than do a new shot, and many villains used aren't CG heavy. Mr Freeze was part of a ratings push for the show coming off hiatus. Firefly used more practical effects. Others are just simple gun fire and knives all the time.

All six freshmen shows on CBS this season were left off the renewal train so far. At least one of them has been getting surprisingly good ratings for it's timeslot, and has been a shoe-in for renewal. CBS already has a couple marks on them this season when it comes to shows. They were radio silent on the next Person of Interest season until a couple weeks ago, when we should have heard something about it back in August or so. Now they are going to just shove the shortened season out within a couple months with an erratic schedule.
They also had Angel of Hell on the schedule, and even aired three? episodes before outright cancelling it suddenly with no real word as to why.
