In TCW, Maul set himself up as the Master of a competing Sith pair. Each pair considered the other illegitimate and sought to destroy it, so both pairs were trying to conform to the Rule of Two.
Maul's apprentice is dead and he has been forced into exile, and has apparently not taken a new apprentice. A Sith Master without an apprentice is master over nothing and no one. Maul was Sith, but isn't really any longer, not unless he can take a new apprentice and strike back against Palpatine and Vader to contest the title.

Rule of Two is the entirety of the first 6 movies. There's a Sith Master (Palpatine) and Sith Apprentices he is training (Maul, Dooku, Vader). There can only be one of each at a time, hence the "Two" part. The Apprentice eventually grows strong enough to overpower and kill the Master (ROTJ) to become the Master who takes on a new Apprentice and starts the cycle over. ROTJ stopped the cycle because Vader died and did not have an actual Apprentice to take his place; that's why there are no Sith in TFA.

That does make sense after the Jedi Council basically fucked her over. They didn't treat Anakin any better either, but I don't think Ahsoka would take it as far as Vader does. She still has a moral compass, and Vader wants to erase his past. She may have been abandoned by the council, but the hardships Anakin went through were way more traumatic and were instrumental in his turn to the dark side. Anakin was also being manipulated for years by Sheev. Ahsoka may not agree with the Jedi, but there is no reason for her to take it as far as Vader. She would know her Skyguy anywhere, it'd be obvious to her that Vader isn't the Anakin she loved.

But his major offense is comparing the PT to the OT. They're both Star Wars to their cores but Lucas went different directions making the prequels. It was not a recreation, it was something new. So it's quite possible that something LIKE the KOTOR games happened, in canon. But not quite the way they're depicted in the games.

It really didn't. I made the entire system incredibly fragile such that any point of failure, as in Master and Apprentice are in a fatal bus crash together and that's it, Sith are dead with no backups.
While I'm sure someone will say, "Yeah but obviously that didn't happen!" we don't actually know that. Fortunately the Sith did think about some level of redundancy via acolytes and assassins, always on the lookout for promising talent to replace either the Master or Apprentice. But that would be horrible. Imagine if crazy Anakin had murdered Obi-Wan, taken Padme to rule as his queen, AND succeeded in killing Sheev. Anakin wouldn't be a true Sith. He wouldn't have any of the secret knowledge or power that even Dooku managed to acquire. He'd just be super aggro guy trying to rule everything while throwing tantrums and - oh shit, without his support suit and injuries he'd be Kylo Ren. That's the exact kind of emperor Anakin would have been without guidance and someone blunting his crazier ambitions.
Anyway for all we know at any point in the thousands of years an Apprentice did kill the Master but the Master kept some juicy secrets, knowledge or techniques. This means the Sith would undergo a slow but cumulative brain drain. They could still be powerful, sure, but they'd be slightly less true Sith as bits of information is lost over the millennia.
Sheev on the surface seems like a champion of the Rule of Two. In fact he's one of the worst. He supports the Rule of two when it benefits him, i.e. he does not tolerate any rivals. He does NOT however share his secrets. He helps you gain powerful, enough to sate you or make you think you're growing under him, but he keeps the best stuff only for himself. Dooku didn't know about the rituals Sheev did and Sheev sure as hell didn't teach Anakin. Maybe it's something he learned from Plagueis: always make sure you never teach your apprentice so much you become unnecessary.

In Lords of The Sith it shows that it was something he heavily considered. But for the most part Vader was a brutal exaggeration of the Jedi backed with Sith teachings. It wasn't until he learned he had a son that he started going full Sith.

In that novel Plagueis's Master, a Bith named Darth Tenebrous (who he kills at the beginning) was secretly training another apprentice, another Bith named Darth Venamis. Venamis was really weaksause though (he didn't even sense the death of his master when he confronted Plagueis at his compound) and it turned out he had been secretly looking into sub-apprentices of his own, who Plagueis goes and kills one-by-one.
The point is, even if you are trained by the Sith, it don't mean your a true Sith Master.
