Will this movie hold up beyond the hype that has been built up around it? Will it become a classic?
No and no
People will look back on it as the moment they became furries
hmmm... "Frozen" kind of classic or "Lion King" kind of classic?wanted to make a thread about side characters, but you were faster, bud.
Isn't it just getting to premiere in UK today?
It's the best Disney movie in a long fucking time. The crew put a lot of love into the production and it really shows. Definitely a classic.
I hope we see more of the production stuff or a "making of Zootopia" when it gets released to video.
>>81055689
Yes. It is a fantastic film.
>>81055689
Among the 2DR (second Disney Renaissance) films released so far, it'll probably be remembered more than any of them except for Frozen and maybe Tangled.
I just got a late delivery of my copy of The Art ofZootropolis.
What are some other awesome art books to have a physical copy of?
>>81055776
So do you think it will become a glorified Robin Hood?
>>81055792
Either. Also, these threads usually diverge from their original topics anyway, so discuss away.
>>81055689
I think so
Only time will tell if its remembered as a classic though.

>>81055799
proto-zootopia was such a depressing place...
>there is alternate universe where they rolled with it.
i dread for the kids who saw it.
>>81055877
Im sure they will do commentary. Thats prett standard
Mostly im excited for deleted scenes
>>81055890
But the universe would have been so much more interesting.
Discounting us online weirdos on the 4chans and the deviant arts and tumblers, Frozen got a lot more little girls to sing songs and princess-pretend, but Zootopia has more all-ages appeal. This could help it in the years ahead.
>>81055842
Only ones I've bought so far are the Zootopia book and the Tangled book. And I'm not sure offhand where I put the latter.
>>81055890Tirrel will never make a flash where alternate zootopia is burned to the ground, with the most uplifting music of all time in the background
>>81055842
Wait, so did they really make different books for the different regions where the movie had different names? Like Art of Zootopia, Art of Zootropolis, Art of Zoomania?
>>81055890
There is never a universe when the Walt Disney Company made the movie set in Sun City.
>>81055890
There is a good comic talking about it where Nick has a nightmare and calls Judy.
>>81055941
Probably just changed instances of zootopia to zootropolis
>>81055855
to be fair, that stuff is always relevant
unless you mean, like, front-page-headline relevant

...do you own any merch, guys?
I think it will. It'll remain relevant as even an adult film with the way it handled its themes. It wasn't a musical, it focused on a character clearly in her mid twenties in the work force, and it didn't have a sappy romance so it transcends the idea of being just for kids while utilizing the aspect that would make it for kids (cute talking animals) in a way that couldn't be done without talking animals. By going with CGI, the film showcases some of the most impressive visiuals in just about every scene as we see an amazing level of detail in every 3D model.
It challenges the medium in just about every way it can.
So yeah, it's going to be a classic.
>>81056059
Nice, but here's the real one.

>>81056401
They all want to play guitar.
But none of them can.Instead they just hire the Cougar kid from Judy's elemntary school, who it turns out became the most successful DJ in the greater 12 boroughs.
>>81055890
It really was the ending that held it back. Gazelle was going to lead the dance party at the very end where the villain was defeated and decades of injustice would just be forgotten as they dance. The awkwardness of the healing process would be seen as negative no matter how it would be executed. The Zootopia we got could get a sequel and it could get a series, proto-Zootopia would most definitely be a one shot that wouldn't make as much money.
It still feels like we were robbed of the two best characters and I hope we see them somehow in the future.
>>81055689
It's an instant classic.
>>81056407

How do the UK and US art books differ?
>>81056571
They're arctic foxes, so they're pretty small.
>>81055966
Front-page-headline relevant. I mean, honestly, I almost didn't see the movie, but my sister, who absolutely hates movies with talking animals, insisted on watching it because of its "social relevance".
>>81056513
Honestly the old draft wouldnt work as a disney movie. It would need some revisions to reach its full potential
Not saying it has to be grimdark, it could still be as goofy as they were probably going to make it, but its also too broken a setting to end with everything suddenly being okay. A fitting ending would have to be bittersweet at most
And thats not really Disneys style
>>81056176
>>81056407

In the animal justice system, predator based offenses are considered especially heinous. In Zootopia the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the special victims unit.

>>81056655
The best they could do was have the epilogue show that Nick's theme park became less of a speakeasy and is enjoyed by preds and prey alike. That's really not good enough for a Disney movie as it's just an awkward medical adhesive strip on a larger problem that was created and the world was too dark for anything better.

Zootropolis is a perfect name for the original concept. Zootopia is a perfect name for what we got. Think about it.
If there was a 2ootopia and if Nick and Judy hooked up for realsies in it, how would you want it to go down? Only happen at the end, like the first instalment of most other Disney movies, or have it happen partway through, giving them a little more time to show them being together during the main plot?

In a sequel, I honestly wouldn't want the subplot of their romance getting in the way of the rest of the movie.
I'd rather see them having just started their relationship at the start of the film, or having a short animation about them getting together.
>>81057125
I would have still figured it for SFW, though, especially since it's not actually sexual.

>barely even qualifies as a pun
>sounds very film noir
Zootopia
>lighthearted, fun sounding word
>double pun
>doesn't reference anything but the concept of an utopia
