How are there Atheists in the DCU when Zauriel was an open member of the JLA?
>>81050767
Because The Presence does fuck all in the DCU.
>>81050767
Just because there are beings of unimaginable power that exist in the world doesn't mean that they deserve worship.
Same argument people who ARE religious use to explain why the existence of Thor doesn't invalidate a Judeo-Christian concept of religion or God.
>>81050767
The only thing that deserves worship in DC is The Source, but it also doesn't give a fuck about what you do sooooo...
>Zauriel
He Could be an alien or a dude in a costume just saying he's an angel.
>>81050767
you can be a gnostic atheist
His introduction story in JLA were the league legit fights angels trying to take over heaven was bad ass
>>81050879
The fuck is that?
>>81051420
You acknowledge there is (maybe) a higher being but you don't worship or follow his creed.
>>81051420
agnostic means you don't know if god exists or not. gnostic means you do.
a gnostic atheist describes both someone who believes gods aren't real and doesn''t worship any, and someone who believes gods are real but doesn't worship any
>>81051459
No it isn't dummy.
Gnostic simple means having definite knowledge of something.
A gnostic atheist knows for sure there is no god.
An agnostic atheist doesn't know for sure, but has a pretty good hunch.
What you're describing is an agnostic deist.

So... Since we know the Abrahamic God exists in the DC universe and we know that other gods exist like the Greek pantheon, how do the two tolerate each other?
The Abrahamic God isn't exactly the type of dude who shares. Shouldn't His existence necessitate the non-existence or at least non-deity status of the other gods?
>>81051678
There are no gods before Him, not no gods except Him. As long as He's top dog He's fine with them. None of then are omnipotent or even come close to His power, so it's fine.
>>81051553
Oh ok thanks for clarifying. That's what I am, but never cared enough to look up the very definition of it.
>>81051553
To be gnostic is to have definite knowledge of something. So one can definitely know beyond doubt that there is a god.
It's the 'atheist' part that fucks this up as there's no term for 'believes but doesn't worship anyway'.....HERETIC?
>>81051803
Apostate might come closest.
>>81051678
Other gods are regional employees. Think of them as store managers, part of the same company but nowhere near the head office.
>>81051678
>Abrahamic god exists
Here's the weird thing, he doesn't. Sure there is a heaven and Hell with angels and Demon but they don't really gel with any Abrahamic religion.
>>81051818
Apostate is someone who leaves the faith
Come on man don't just throw terms around and wait until being corrected. Read up on the subject, anything we can write has already been written on Wikipedia

Now that just doesn't make sense. It isn't specifically canon to the Bible but the presence of those things you mentioned pretty much require a divine being (God, Source, TOAA) or it wouldn't make sense
In most fiction I know that deal with this, it's Deism. I.e. God made creation, gave us rules and then left. Supernatural, the Sandman and Hellblazer do this, for example
