Big epics with lots of people saying portentous things and very long plotting.
It's worked better for his creator-owned stuff (East of West, Manhattan Projects, Pax Romana, etc.) than when he's tried to make it work for existing characters and universes.
The biggest exception for me would be his run on FF and Fantastic Four, which worked because the Fantastic Four's world has generally been more insulated from Marvel at large, and he had essentially free reign to define or redefine their corner of the Marvel U to his liking. Similar deal with his SHIELD mini and Secret Warriors, where the former was essentially a "secret history of the marvel u" and the latter happened in the shadows and involved shit largely unrelated to the events that spawned the title.
Contrast to his work with Avengers and Secret Wars where it all felt just weird and out of character for everyone but his chosen principals, which ended up being Doom and Reed all over again. For what it's worth I did like it, I just also recognize that it just couldn't have worked as well as it could've because the level of control needed to make his stories work wouldn't be available on a brand as big as Avengers.
