This. I'm seeing the movie on Thursday, and I'm a little disappointed in the critical reception, but holy shit /co/ is a dumpster fire right now and it's fucking irritating. Acting like the goddamn world is ending just because the movie's getting less-than-stellar reviews.

I enjoy individual comics and stories from both publishers....

BUT

I overall like the tone and feel of the marvel universe better than DC. I like that they've kept a running continuity going since the silver age. I think there's a much larger cast of interesting side-characters in marvel.

Marvel is the Pepsi to DC's Coke.

The Hep-cat to their Square.

The Punk Rock to their Prog.

If you look back at the 20th century stuff, Marvel has always been younger, fresher, hipper, more progressive (I don't only mean politics, but let's be real here... this was the civil rights era) more engaged with the real world popular culture of it's time. They still are.
Examples:

Peter Parker dates a girl named after pot.

Reed Richards and Dr Strange go on psychedelic inter-dimensional adventures that look like acid trips.

Characters have origins in real-world cities and neighborhoods that really flesh out their characters. Ben Grimm comes from working class Manhattan. Dr Strange is a beatnik with a house in the east village. Jubilee is a Socal mall rat. Wolverine is an Albertan Cowboy. Kamala Kahn is a New Jersey Paki.

Marvel blatantly borrows and lifts topical pop culture and sticks it in their comics. Charles Bronson in Death wish becomes The Punisher. Alien and Aliens becomes the Brood. Hunger Games becomes Avengers Arena. 70s Blaxploitation and kung fu movies become Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Madonna and Joan Jett become Dazzler and Lila Cheney. This lets them be engaged with current trends in media, comment on them, toy with them, have fun with them... but most importantly, it prevents them from imploding into their own little 'not-our-real-universe' ghetto.

I just find the setting fresher, topical, more varied and less stuffy, I guess.

Either way, psyched about seeing it in 3d tomorrow! Now i can just bask in the visuals and see if a second viewing will let me pick up on anything new that i might've missed in the first viewing.

Godspeed anons.

I don't understand, why are you posting this

I like Marvel too, but that's not what this thread is about.

I got into DC from the Vertigo-verse and some of the other more contained stories making me more interested in the characters and mythologies.

>I overall like the tone and feel of the marvel universe better than DC. I like that they've kept a running continuity going since the silver age. I think there's a much larger cast of interesting side-characters in marvel.

Marvel has some characters that rank among my favorites in comics (Daredevil and Moon Knight, for example), but I've just always been more invested in the DCU cosmology and history more than with Marvel's.

1.) They aren't changing much of jack shit, Batman is straight out of TDKReturns including killing people (pic related), Superman is very earth one-ish. Wonder Woman is very intact, as even the most scathing reviews I have seen have complimented her. Lex is only bug change.
2.) Pretentious-ness is not a valid flaw. Being artistic and mature instead of bathing in intentional immaturity will NEVER be a bad thing.

Suicide Squad is probably going to do way better critically just by virtue of involving characters that aren't popular like Superman and Batman are, so the critics won't be expecting the same things of them.

What are the general claims about /tv/? I actually moved here from there, /tv/ was acting way too unbearable about this. And I don't mean that as in I'm too salty, it's practically the only thing they're talking about, like half of the threads are nothing but the ratings. Even if the movie was great, that's way too many threads. It's like it's just a meme-central.

>>81041731

You've read Flash Rebirth or Green Lantern Rebirth? Sounds like they're trying to do that (bringing in old legacies and reinstating old elements of continuity while updating and streamlining the brand) with the whole DCU.

Feels a bit to me like damage control after DC You was a commercial failure, but I'm a massive fan of the interconnectedness of the DCU and the legacies that came out of the post-crisis, pre-New 52 DCU so I'm interested to see how they're going to fold all that back in.

Most of his superman scenes made him more imposing, because he was delievering lines in situations that were meant to intimidate. I.e. talking to luthor, telling Batman to hang up his cape. His dialogue as Clark Kent felt emotionally appropriate given the situation and his inflexion as well. His mannerisms were good too i thought, everytime he smiled in costume you just had to think to yourself "That's Superman right there!"

But Earth-1 was the dumbest version of Superman's origin ever fuckin' written and Snyder claimed to be basing MoS on Byrne and Birthright, with a smattering of stolen quotes from All-Star.

Not in terms of tone, mood and realistic world building.
Characterization maybe, I don't like E1's Superman's personality ether, I think he is WAY too emo, I think MOS did that much better.
Cavill said he liked E1 In a interview.

I guess I'm over the movie not being great. It helps that we might be getting a Tom King Batman.

Ditto. I was already tired of Marvel by Ultron and hoped BvS would be good. This is the last straw. The DC films are nonsensical blunders and stunning examples of the phrase "too many cooks in the kitchen". Marvel films are toothless cookie-cutter cashgrabs that are dragging down the concept of blockbusters as a whole. I already lost interest in the comics long ago.

Legit question. Have you read Byrne and Birthright? MoS's invasion plot, along with this scene, verbatim, is ripped from Earth 1, the depiction of Krypton from Byrne, and miscellaneous shit like Clark wandering the Earth, hiding his identity, and the depiction of Pa everyone freaked out about comes from Birthright.

It blows my mind that there are people who take the time to whine on 4chan about how unfaithful Superman supposedly was in MoS, without ever being tempted to spend 15 minutes to pick up a Superman comic, just out of curiosity, and nothing else (this means the former is of greater interest to them than the later action of reading said comic is). I guess that goes to show you that beneath all of the feigned outrage, that there are a limited number of people who actually give a shit about the character.

At least the inclusion of Doomsday in BvS should peek people's interest heavily enough that a few of them will look into the story he appeared in; if nothing else, it could help distance Superman from the Donner films a bit, since Death of Superman, much like Snyder;s stuff, is so radically different from them. A lot of the anger in regard to MoS was about how the tone was too dark for a Superman story and that the film had too much punching. I didn't agree with that in regard to MoS, but Death of Superman really did have DBZ style pacing.

It's exaggeration to say I've lost interest entirely.

When Morrison's Action Comics ended and we didn't get the story about the vampire from 5000000000 AD coming back in time to suck Superman's blood, my interest in that slowly started to die. Another nail in the coffin was Death of the Family. That was just fucking stupid. I started dipping into DC and Vertigo's eighties and nineties works, and occasionally I still do, but that's a finite well and one day it's gonna run dry. I will admit I still do hear about some gems from DC, but never enough to make me come back.

With Marvel though, I never cared that much in the first place. I never hated them, but rarely had any desire to start reading. I've read a few things here and there like Marvels and Morrison's X-Men, but the current stories look stupid. As with DC, I still will read some of their older works if I feel so inclined, but I'm usually not interested.

A big problem for me has to be quality distribution. I wanna know what I'm getting into and I don't wanna waste time one something that can't be considered "pretty good" at the very least. With taste being subjective and fanboys having incredibly biased perspectives, investing time into comics feels like a big gamble.

If Snyder is dropped and Justice League is put on perminate hiatus, here is what I would do to salvage the situation.

Give us Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman as is.

Aquaman.
-Mera & AM already in a happy loyal relationship like the new 52 so no early ackward romance like the Thor movies and no possibility of breaking up.
>Have very little of it take place above water.

Superman & Wonder Woman
Directed by ???? George Miller? Cary Fukunaga?

-Have Cavill mostly drop the Alienated monotone vibe, I think people will never accept him if he does not.
-Have much of the first half of the film be him & Diana traveling the world helping people in all walks of life and cultures. Have this stuff mostly be happy and clearly very enjoyable for himself and most of those he encounters. Have Diana bond with Lois.
-Have Faora pull herself out of the Phantom Zone in Metropolis and has amnesia. The Military won't risk trying to contain her so they hand her over to Diana who takes her to Themyscira to start anew.
-Clark resumes helping others and helping Lois on assignment.
-Faora slowly regains her memory in secret and wishes revenge on Superman for forsaking Krypton.
-She sexually seduces another resentful magic learned Amazon to help her free Cronus (who looks EXACTLY like his Pre-New 52 version) or the New 52's Lapetus
-Who alongside Faora inevitably Battles Clark & Diana on Themyscira.
-Faora sacrifices herself to save her Amazonian lover.
-Cronus/Lapetus is cast into Oblivion and while the Olympians appreciate them containing the Titan, his death demands a judgment and sacrifice, they demand Clark's Power and Diana is going to instead give up her Immortality but before she can, Hypoloyata gives up her own. (This is not fatal it just means she will age naturally)

I'd be ok with this. I just want someone at the helm of the movies that cares about the characters.

CONTINUING THIS...

Green Lantern Corps
>Idris Elba as John Stewart
>Lupita Nyong'o as Natu
Both newly Green Lanterns...
>Lance Reddick as Sinestro
Is training them out in the field.
He is now giving them their own beat and assignment together, he has taken a antagonistic liking to Stewart and trust him with Natu (who gave up a career as a doctor to be a GL out of a sense of Duty to her father)
Sinestro keeps disappearing when he is suppose to be overseeing and judging them and not reporting his actives to OA, Stewart & Natu investigate and return to her and Sinestro's home world to find that he has used the Forbidden Yellow rings to create his own corps to impose dictatorial rule over then planet to over throw the currupt government he will no longer tolerate.

The best thing that could come of this is a radical overhaul of the Wonder Woman movie's style, to distance it as much from Snydershit as possible. Snyder's style for his DC movies seems to be ripping from Christopher Nolan, and Wonder Woman looks to be ripping from Nolan and Snyder, at least in visuals an fight scene style. I really, really want that to change.

>I really, really want that to change.
I really, really don't especially for the WW1 setting.

Also, so help me God, if I see one more character saddled with a supporting quirky sidebuzz grrrrl with a stripe of green hair what don't need no patriarch as a sidekick, I really am going to shoot somebody. Fucking Hyperion was the tipping point where it's just plain silly, now.
