DC BTFO

Zack: Look how pretty this scene is! Look how gorgeous the visuals are! Man, so dark and gritty!
Audience: Uh yeah that's nice, but where's the story?
Zack: Story?
Audience: Yeah, you know, the reason why we go see movies? Why cinema is loved by so many? Movies are a form of storytelling, to see a character's journey and feel for their struggles, hopes and dreams, to hopefully be amazed with something new and novel, to watch something that hopefully leaves a mark on you, a story that make you think about life itself. Just like all the great auteur directors like Kubrick and those from the past, sought out to do. Not throwing cars in the air and huge explosions to muh dark gritty teenage angst shit.
Zack: Fuck that shit, oh god, this is the best part, look at all that cgi! Man, look at Superman flying with his beautiful manly dick sticking out, I'm jerking off right now.

Ben was great. Zack is to blame. He'll get fired fortunately.

Very likely, in a way they kind of wanted it to be like Deadpool in that it's sort of off in its own universe as I recall, because it's the introduction of actual magic and crazy shit into the MCU.

Oh, I have no doubt about that. In fact I'll go even higher. 1.3 Billion. But DC dorks were talking how it was gonna challenge Force Awakens when in reality it won;t een get close to Avengers or Furious 7 numbers.
>>
Ok, answer me one thing. Why did WB hire Snyder after MoS?

Regardless of your opinion of the movie, it got very mixed reviews and the box office wasn't anything special (it's a Superman movie after all, it should be able to make more money than GotG). What sane company would hire this guy to helm their DC universe? From a business standpoint, it doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>81015453
>Guyz, maybe letting Snyder make superhero movies in the first place was a bad idea.

Fixed

>>81015468
>It's still going to pull in $700m at the box office just like MoS.
MoS did 668m.

If a fucking Batman and Superman movie, the movie that every goddamn fan has been propping up as "Everybody knows these characters, of course it's going to blow away every other comic book film" comes out and it 'only' pulls in around that much, you've fucked up

People complaining about critics mentioning that the movie was "no fun" and comparing it to the Nolan trilogy really downplay how silly, sarcastic and enjoyable were the Nolan ones. They weren't completely joyless.

Batman Begins had a couple of dumb moments in it (for example Gordon in the Batmobile or when Batman headbutts a guy after screaming I'M BATMAN), and in general many characters were sarcastic and cracking jokes at times, they were human. Sure, they were more serious and realistic but it also was aware that a guy in a batsuit beating up a guy in clown makeup ain't exactly the grimmest thing ever.

Meanwhile, Snyder's Man of Steel was almost always at the verge of tears and it tried to make up with the action scenes which are of course Snyder's forte.

It makes perfect sense, you don't have the perspective of an executive or shareholder of a company. They do not watch these films for quality, as long as it looks semi-competent (and say what you will about Zach Snyders directing he knows how to make a film look intriguing visually at the very least) and it makes money that's all that matters, film quality isn't important when it comes to the short term goal of making money. They're not really focused on accolades because they really aren't that great, remember when The Dark Knight was getting pushed all over and Heath Ledgers Joker was super popular that the film never saw one Oscar. It got plenty of other awards but was snubbed hard.
>>
>>81015493
It means they'll probably throw more money at the Deadpool team and tell them to repeat their success. Which means that Fox may want to be more involved, but they may also feel that it's best to leave them to their own devices and hope they can strike lightning twice.

Worth revisiting this article, following the critical failure of Batman v Superman.

http://www.comicsbeat.com/behind-the-scenes-at-wb-tons-of-presssure-on-batman-v-superman/

Along with this.

http://www.comicsbeat.com/batman-v-superman-is-either-in-trouble-or-a-savior/

> My entire key to understanding the WB comes from a conversation I had a few years ago at San Diego when I was randomly seated next to a former WB writer who told me “The problem is, the studio just doesn’t like or get superheroes.” And indeed, if you look at the long, long history of misfires and aborted efforts at WB from Nicholas Cage Superman, to George Miller JLA to an earlier, abandoned, Baman V Superman, to the leaden Green Lantern, you’ll sense moviemakers badly out of their comfort zone and just taking a shot in the dark and then regretting it.
>>
>We will never get properly constructed DC cinematic universe and it will be just Disney and FOX competing for an eternity and ocassionaly borrowing each other's rights for characters.
I'm surprisingly okay with this.
They weren't even considering a TT or Sandman movie, so nothing of value was lost.
>>
>>81015545
The way it works is you take the budget and multiply it by 2.5 or 3 times and that is the amount needed to get a profit. The gross is just that, revenue. It doesn't account for the theatres cut or the people who make the reels or digital things or the other marketing costs. Now for a movie like B v S, they probably already made the budget back through licensing and merchandise but most movies don;t have that so the 2.3 to 3 rule usually works
>>
>>81015580

SS will come out at a point where it feels like it will die, do much better than expected, get better reviews than BvS and WB will be left wondering what the shit

My joke aside, my only hope for the movie is they stop with downplaying the fantasy elements of Marvel. Thor already dropped the ball when it came to portraying the Asgardians as a mix of sci-fi and fantasy stuff like in comics. I'd eat my hat if Ragnarok addresses that.

So while it's clear the film is shit, we still don't know what KIND of shit it is.

Is it a clean shit or a wet shit? Or a second wave shit when you think you're done and you realize there's still more? Or is it a lincoln log shit, the kind that's too big that you have to break it up into smaller pieces before you can flush it? Or a "Gee, I really wish I could shit." shit, the kind where you feel like you really have to go but no matter how much you strain you just can't get the shit out. Maybe it's a groaner, the kind that can't come out without some vocal assistance. Or a floater, the kind that tends to resurface despite repeated flushings? Perhaps it's a spinal tap shit, the kind that hurts so bad that you'd swear it was coming out sideways. Or maybe it's a "Gee I think I'm turning into a bunny" shit, when you drop lots of cute, little round ones that look like marbles and make tiny splashing sounds when they hit the water.

This is a very important question and merits some serious deliberation.

The question has to be asked in the wake of the reviews: why Wonder Woman, why Doomsday, why 155goddamnminutes long?

I think the problem is WB took the wrong lesson from then-Marvel, they thought we loved tie in and in universe winks. That's not what made those movies successful. It's like they think we're too dumb to notice their corporate bullshit advertisements for what they are.
