No shit
Compared to good anime it's mediocre. It's a good cartoon, just not by Japanese standards.
>>81005999
really depends on the season. I found this season weak, for example
>That Toph
>That Aang
>That Zuko
>>81005883
Hence the "small" part.
>>81006039
I'd argue it had better animation than most anime, but in terms of tone, themes, and story content it is definitely wanting.
>>81005811
ATLA is hated over there. The japanese are pathetic losers that can't stand it when people reminds them of all the evil shit they done in the past. They hate how similar the Fire Nation is to Imperial Japan.
Pathetic wimps the lot of them.
didnt japan hate atla cause fire nation
>>81006188
Is that really the only reason?
Kind of sad if true.
>westaboo art.
A true delicacy. Though I guess ATLA doesn't count thay much.
>>81006270
Main reasons were a shitty dub, lack of advertising and cultural differences. (Aang not yelling out his attacks for example)
>>81006398
>cultural differences
ATLA was too Chinese for Japan?
>>81005811
Art dump?
>>81006464
No idea. All the writing in the show is chinese, so maybe.

>>81006141
I didn't think the animation was anything special, but the fight choreography was pretty impressive to me and better than a lot of anime. A pity it was on Nick so they couldn't make it as violent as it should have been.
>>81006821
>Geers

>>81005883
Good anime is a dismal failure in Japan. The shows that sell are otaku-bait and toy commercial shows
>>81007003

Animating good choreography would fall under "good animation" for most people.
You'd watch it.
>>81006944
You would a drunk little blind girl. How did you get to this point in your life?
>>81007061
It was generally good, but it's more of a bash on how lazy anime can be. Panning still shots, flappy mouths. That sort of thing. It's obviously been a while since I've seen TLA though, but I remember it having consistent animation. Is that webbum from Escaflowne?
>>81007138
I want to rape all faggot nerd otaku that have ruined anime
>>81007228

>>81007061

The sad thing is that most of that otaku-bait sells terribly as well. Really, you can't predict what sells well and doesn't a lot of the time. Kekkai Sensen sold like crazy, and it was great.

My brother in law went to study game design or something like that in Japan. He quit after like a month because all his classmates and teachers were creepy perverts and it made him really uncomfortable.

You're just going to have to suspend your disbelief with that. People who write stories about someone from their country doing something are generally going to write a story where their country is the forerunner of whatever event that happens.
>>81007237
Yessir. Funny thing is, Escaflowne was guilty of both of those short cuts and it's still probably the most beautiful looking TV production. It's just a different creation philosophy I guess.

Yeah, that's I think one of TLA's biggest animation strengths is in its consistency. It may not be overly flashy or detailed like a lot of 80's/90's anime, but they knew where they stood every episode.
>>81007577

Avatar is disappointment: the franchise. The original three seasons were absolutely wonderful (Lion Turtle ex machina excepted) and then every single thing produced thereafter ranged from mediocre (Korra) to bad (the comics) to absolutely dreadful (Shyamaladingdong). I have never been more disappointed in what should have been a successful, imaginative fresh new franchise.

Not really. As far as I know Gatchaman Crowds Insight was a success. And that had a WWII vet outright saying what Japan did back then was badong.

>>81009881
That guy broke up with Mai at the end of Smoke and Fire.
>>81009577
Not the same anon. I admit it has some cool concepts but overall it's all horribly written with failed potential. Like take the spider thiefs for example, what was even the point of them besides being Kurapika's cause of backstory. The main characters don't even fight them and have to resort to outmaneuvering them because the author wrote himself into a corner
>>81009956
That didn't fucking make sense. They were both shown to be in a perfectly happy and normal relationship and Mai never showed signs of wanting to go back with Zuko
I'd be willing to believe Maiko permanently broke up but something about Izumi just screams Mai to me.
>>81010089
Don't worry, Kai Lo or whatever his name is and Azula will be back in two years when we get yet another Fire Nation trilogy.
>>81010089
Yeah, I was pretty sure that Mai was going to stay with this incredibly boring guy, but that would have pretty much written her out of future comics.
>>81010089

Yeah, Mai is the mom.
Izumi is nowhere as hot to be Suki'sor Azula's

>>81010165

>>81009921
Well over time he constantly got sicker, there were more delays, and the art suffered especially in the Chimera arc. I've preferred the earlier arcs to the later... though the later arcs do have their moments. (Picture related)
>>81010047
I rather liked that. With shounen series it's always about powering up over and over until the leads can overpower the enemy. HxH admits that two kids aren't going to be the strongest people in the room sometimes. Hell that is one of the biggest motivators for Gon's development in the Chimera arc since he loses his shit over being too weak to save a character from dying.
The Spider arc led into opening up the world of the series more. An excuse to be in a metropolitan area, meet more Hunters of different varieties, etc. Other than Hisoka and Illumi, villains don't really carry over from arc to arc all that much. Some of the Spiders appear here and there in later arcs, but the cast is so huge already that their stories basically need to wrap up to move on to new characters.
I acknowledge the series has weak parts. I think Greed Island was overall pretty boring, not a fan of card-game plots, but the characters are what keep you around. There's some truly good relationships, growth, and fights.
>>81010147
It's not like she did much after the first part of the trilogy other than cuck Zuko and constantly belittle and insult him.
>>81005811
>Zuko is basically Jin from Samurai Champloo
I approve
>>81010402
At this point I honestly couldn't blame Zuko if he just shacked up with Suki. At least she seems to understand that he has an EXTREMELY stressful job and actively tries to relieve that stress, instead of bitching that he isn't spending enough time with her.
>>81009133
toy commercials are awesome as long as they remember what matters. being awesome and cool and having great fights. but a lot of modern toy commercial anime are as boring as actual commercials. it's fucking sad. anime has severely lost its way
>>81008769
Thank you for this. I only go into threads on release days due to it be cancer otherwise but this is a solid pic bruh.

Korra didn't blunder her way into the FN to make things worse, so Izumi must be doing something right.Shit, the previous version of this post was a disaster.
>>81007244
that's like getting mad at 90s kids for EXTREME shit. it's a POOR attempt at marketing to them. it's not their fault they exist to be poorly marketed towards. Nor is it their fault they get desperate and settle for what they can get, thus supporting it financially.

Powering up is a shounen staple. It's like expecting a mahou shoujo series to not have a tiny animal sidekick and a wand/compact/whatever merchandise line.
I love One Piece with all my heart, but each arc dedicates time to leveling up with either new techniques or training or whatever... starting with something more physical than hitting at the super secret powers. Haki, nen,.. what have you.
Each series gives some reason for leveling up... even shit like Bleach, so I'm not sure what you mean with your second sentence.
>>81010553
Anime hasnt lost its way, things just chance and moe is new thing. Just accept it and move on to other things or start enjoying moeshit like i do.

>>81007497
I was in Akiba in 2010. We found some pretty creepy areas. Low light, nothing but big breasted models and stereotypical otaku, some light pedophilia merchandise (with real kids).
Blame it on the moe trend I guess. I enjoy maybe one series a year these days. Not to say anime as a whole was ever perfect, but I find way less that I like since there's less experimental or groundbreaking stuff these days. I miss Gonzo's one-good-anime-per-season-and-the-rest-basic-shit release schedule. Gankutsuou, Noein, etc.
