Was He-man ever any good? My father love this show and is always talking about how fantastic it it so I thought why not give it a try. I just need to know what to expect from my /co/mrades.
>>
Watch it for yourself or don't, faggot.
>>
Alternates between really good and really goofy, but entertaining all the same. Animation is reused a lot (Filmation was a cheapskate studio), but you get used to it.
>>
>>80988429
It's pretty terrible dude.
You should still watch it but definitely keep your expectations managed.

It was good for it time but there are constant animation errors and it's really cheesy

Plus HeMan never kills anyone with his sword. For a show set in some weird post-apocalyptic like setting, there wasn't much actual violence

It's really remembers mostly for the Skeletor meme now

It's fun to watch once in a while though, though it's certainly not good. I'd recommend BraveStarr

They did a Best-Of DVD few years ago with 10 fan-favorite episodes, you should start from there.

You could also give the early 00's reboot a try.

It's pure 80s cheese. Do with that what you will.

Isn't that the episode where a Good Skeletor is from another dimension
>>
>>80988429
>Was He-man ever any good?

yes.

not animation-wise but the tone of it and the overall setting was fun. keep in mind its meant for kids in the 80s

if you want a slighly more "serious" approach, read the keith giffen DC comic
>>
>>80988630
>Plus HeMan never kills anyone with his sword.

broadcasting regs

he can be shown throwing them, kicking them, but not punching (unless they arent humans) or stabbing/slashing them

this applied for every kids show back then
>>
>>80988826
Yeah.

Good Skeletor was a far more interesting hero than He Man

The Filmation cartoon was bad.

The He-Man mini comics were good.

The 200X cartoon was good.

Abnett's DC comics are gloriously EPIC!!!
>>
The comic where he-man and Superman team up, and Superman stabs skeletor with hemans sword by throwing it at him. Find it
>>
>>80989180
>Abnett's DC comics are gloriously EPIC!!!

Giffen's run on the previous series was a bit quip-heavy but better written overall imo.

I love it. It's awfully cheesy, gets really stupid at times, but I absolutely love it.

I didn't even grow-up with this show, it was made a little over a decade before I was even born.

Skeletor is mah waifu.
>>
Not even close. Giffen didn't develop the characters, and he just make fun of them, and he turn every one to an unlikable asshole. Dan did justice to the franchise and the Eternity War was one of the best stories ever.
>>
House of Shokoti parts 1 and 2 are the best episodes, and surprisingly dark for the series.
>>
>>80988630
It wasn't supposed to be a grim, post-apocalyptic setting. More of a swash-buckling, adventurous, John carter type series.

Alan Oppenheimer's Skeletor was great, and pretty witty at times.
>>
>>80989360
>surprisingly dark for the series.

Not really as dark as that time Skeletor tricked He-Man into thinking he murder someone.
That episode was shocking, especially how they weren't even subtle about it.
>>
Skeletor.
>>
Langella Skeletor is best Skeletor.

Cartoon with that version voiced by Simon Templeman when?
>>
>>80989476

i dislike how they never fully developed skeletor's relationship to Adora has her father figure

if she turned to be inherently good, it had to be because of how him and weaver raised her
>>
>>80989476
OTP as fuck, man.
>>
>>80989523
In my headcanon, that was a New Gods movie and Langella was Darkseid
>>
>>80989553
This was not the same Skeletor, because at the end he never made the journey back in time.
>>
>>80989553
Adora has been really mishandled in that comic.
>her entire backstory is just another chance to ask WHERE'S TEELA?
>>
>>80989476
Skeletor sure was a player
>>
>>80989295
>>80989348
Griffen's run was pretty bad. Everyone's too serious. No fun allowed. Orko is a traitor for no reason.
>>
>>80989647
Actually no, Adora's story was treated very well. The transition from Despara to She-Ra has been done very well and was not forced, like in the old cartoon.
>>
>>80989639
i may need to reread it, im not very clear on how this turned out
>>
>>80989647
Also i loved how the twins's bonding was builde gradually, not like "heye i' m your sister" thing
>>
>>80989726

It seemed to me his run was less serious than Abnet's

And Orko was possesed
>>
>>80989838
Read the Origin of She-Ra story arc. It's fantastic!
>>
>>80989886
Giffen wasn't fun. He was just mocking the characters and the franchise. Abnett did justice to them.
>>
>>80988429
It's not good like your father remembers it. It's still fun.
>>
Adora's backstory is the one good thing about that entire half of the franchise.

Though Mom Weaver is also pretty kawaii.
>>
>>80990023
>He was just mocking the characters and the franchise.

I think he just gave it a shot at trying to "deconstruct" it, but his tone was too quip-y and sarcastic at times.

Geez, you think everyone should see Clark Kent is clearly Superman, the real question is, what about Adam here? He-Man is just Adam with a tan.
>>
>>80995767
>Not just stayng He-Man 24/7

Adam was a worthless secret identity.
>>
>>80995767
Adam has not a secret identity 10 years now. Everyone knows that he is He-Man.

https://youtu.be/SvAOQdDWvro
>>
>>80995767
Adam is visually different in the new stories from He-Man. He is a bit shorter and far less robust than He-Man.
>>
>>80996252
How far back does Skeletor being Adam's uncle go?
Was it retrofitted long after the 80s toon or was it like that since the beginning?
>>
I believe that there is a mini comic back at the 80's, pubblished more or less the same period with the cartoon, named "The Story of Keldor", wher it was for the first time hinted that Skeletor was Randor's brother. Then with the 200X cartoon this story was picked up again as the official Skeletor's origin.

>>
Personally, I think it's fantastic, but in a so-bad-it's-hilarious kind of way. If that's your thing, you'd love it. If not, look elsewhere.
>>
>>80988630
>For a show set in some weird post-apocalyptic like setting, there wasn't much actual violence

Eternia was more of a center-of-the-multiverse deal.
>>
>>81001789
Eternia basically it's a bit of both. It's considered the Center of the Universe according to the MOTU mythos and a crossroad between dimensions, but it's also a world devastated by the wars between warlords and wizards, for controlling the ultimate power that resides inside the planet.
>>
>>80996735
It was in some of the earliest comics.

The original mythology had a bunch of weird shit. He-Man's mom was an astronaut from Earth and her crewmates became Skeletor's primary henchmen, including Trapjaw and Evil-Lyn (originally named Evelyn).
>>
>>80990132
Man, that is one tame punishment for traitorous underlings.
>>
>>80989739
>>80990216
>>80989975
>>80990291
>She-Ra
I'm still wondering if her cartoon held up too.

So which are the best Masters of the Universe DVDs and opinions on the Dolph Lundgren film? Personally if it had a larger budget, it would've taken place entirely on Eternia and more.
>>
>>81002843
I thought the earliest comics were completely different from the whole Kingdom of Grayskull plot?
Prince Adam didn't even exist back then and He-Man was a wandering barbarian apparently.

Neither did Hordak and he paid it with his life. Never underestimate Skeletor.
>>
>>81003867
I vastly prefer my skeletor goofy, rather than evil/competent. Hordak being the guy who actually conquered a world makes more sense for me.
>>
>>81006276
Skeletor is the most complicated and charismatic character, and making him goofy was the worst part of the old cartoon. Skeletor in the mini comics and his action figure was called the Lord of Destruction. Skeletor is the real threat. Hordak is just an old and tired conqueror.
>>
>>81006552
He was still a threat, but I liked that he had his more lighthearted moments. It humanized him.
>>
Turning him to a clown is not humanizing though, more like riduled him. Besides Skeletor is not exactly human, but an alien lich wizard.
>>
>>81007775
Him just being an evil wizard would be too one note. I liked that he had a sense of levity.
>>
>>81008208
What humanizing Skeletor is not being an incompetent parody character. What humanizing him, is him being Keldor and his story behind his downfall.
>>
>>80988429
Great characters, poor writing/production.

i remember there was this cartoon network ad bump which had this beat that was like untz untz untz and it would get louder and then galtar would burst through a wall

does anyone know what i'm talking about. i tried looking but couldnt find anything
>>
So how did everyone like Thundercats compared to He-Man? I liked it, but never as much as He-Man. That being said, my toy Sword of Omens was the best Power Sword I had until I got the one from New Adventures of He-Man.
>>
>>81010519
He-Man is not Thundarr's knock-off. The He-Man toys came before Thundarr's show and the Filmation cartoon. Also He-Man was set in another planet from Earth, unlike Thundarr.

And nothing beats Teela's booty. Was and will always be a legend!
