It was fuck expensive to make because they loved doing really intensive ship battles and such every other episode, Jhonen was also edgy and not really prepared to run an entire crew of people. Also it didn't sell millions worth of merch at hot topic until immediately after it was canceled.
Also soccer moms weren't huge fans because of the overall dark themes compared to the rest of Nick's lineup at the time. All in all, Nick didn't want to keep that clusterfuck running for longer than they had to.

Tomorrowland bombed, so Disney decided it didn't need to make risky ventures into scifi anymore to attract that crowd, as they now had the huge powerhouse Star Wars to rake in that dough. Thus, Tron 3 was cancelled, which pissed Boxleitner off at having his chain on the Tron franchise yanked so much, and so he said he's done with it.
From what I know the only thing left of Tron is Run/r, a spinoff of Evolution. Otherwise, all we can do is mourn.
