Will zootopia get any oscars?
I think it deserves every oscar in the world t.b.h
That fucking fur detail.
>>80979990
oscars are trite and worthless when it com,es to actual recognition of quality.
Haven't seen it but it decides whether they want to keep promoting their Disney princess hype
>>80980005
Really? Why? I don't know a lot about oscars
>>80980005
especially animation oscars.
>>80980008
>promote Disney princess hype
Disgusting.
>>80980008
Disney has been trying to steer away from princesses because they're losing interests from boys who think Disney is a girl's company. that's why marvel, star wars, all that other stuff has been coming in lately.

>comes out in March
>not Pixar

Doesn't matter anyway; the Oscars are a fucking joke. Oscar voters don't even watch half of what they nominate
It will be a close call for sure, but I suspect pic related will beat out Zootopia for best animation.
>>80979990
My ideal outcome:
>Zootopia - Best Picture nomination
>Moana - Best Animated Picture win
>song from Moana - Best Original Song win
Can stuff like Zootopia have a shot at special effects or anything?
>implying that isn't going to be a toss-up between Doctor Strange, BvS, Star Wars, Warcraft and Civil War
>>80980030
Yet episode 7 with mary sue Rei happened.
>>80980309
>ideal outcome
>Zootopia BP nomination
>loses to fucking Moana for Best Animated Feature
wut?
>>80980011
Because the Oscars are more of a popularity contest than anything. And as >>80980017 points out, oscars for animated films are even worse because more often than not, the judges don't even watch the movie, being that they're all 50-60 year olds that still hold the mentality of "animated movies are kiddie shit for kids and have no redeeming values whatsoever"
Reminder.
It's really petty, but I will probably never see this movie because that smug fox makes my blood pressure rise every time I see him.

The mindset of the average Oscar voter:
When a Pixar film is nominated:
>Best Animated Feature. Hm... let's see is there a Pixar film nominated? Yes? Vote for it.
When no Pixar film is nominated:
>Oh, no Pixar film huh? What about Disney? Yes? Vote for it.
When no Pixar or Disney film are nominated:
>Oh you mean I actually have to WATCH these films and vote on quality? Ugh, fine. Stupid obscure freakin' chinese fucking shit.
>>80981034
I know.
I'll just be pissed if Zootopia gets a BP nomination, but goes home empty-handed because it loses Best Animated Film to Moana.
>>80981061
wait, it can be nominated for both? I thought it was either-or.
>>80981046
She's wearing her usual pants, anon. Don't you see the shin guard things?
>>80981087
wow
you're an idiot
>>80981087
Yep.
Toy Story 3 and Up were both nominated for both.
I just hope to God they give Zootopia the Oscar. I mean, if they're gonna give it blindly to a Disney-produced film it might as well be one that's legitimately well-written and imaginative (I seriously doubt Moana or Finding Dory will be much of either).
>>80981099
Yeah I know. I meant it's visible as in you can actually see the bulge and stuff. Most Judy fan art I see skip that part because it's usually not visible even on her model.
>>80981103
>2013 Frozen wins over Monsters University, sequel to Monsters Inc.
>2016 Moana/Zootopia wins over Finding Dory, sequel to Finding Nemo
pottery
>>80981135
Monsters U wasn't even nominated. That's why my theory >>80981050
still holds up.
At least since 2007 - the voters were a little more intelligent and objective before then and actually picked a diverse set of animated films to give the award to (Shrek, Spirited Away, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Wallace and Gromit, Happy Feet).
Since then the only non-Disney or Pixar film to win the Award was Rango and that's because neither Pixar nor Disney had a film nominated that year.
Of course most of those years you can justify....
Then there's cases like 2012 (Brave beats Wreck-it-Ralph, Paranorman, and Frankenweenie), 2013 (Frozen beats Ernest and Celestine and The Wind Rises), and most egregiously last year (Big Hero 6 beat Song of the Sea, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, How to Train Your Dragon 2 AND an un-nominated Lego Movie).
Dear furfags,
Please quit fucking your dog. He doesn't like it.

>>80981186
Monster's U wasn't nominated for a globe either.
they got annie noms and a bunch of other little awards no one knows or cares about.
>>80981186
The Lego Movie?
No, it wasn't nominated for the Oscar - even though most people were predicting it to WIN.
When it failed to get the nom, people thought HTTYD2 would win - at the very least it would have been a great way to reward the sequel when the first film, no matter how good it was, could not have won the Oscar in 2011 because they HAD to reward Toy Story 3.
If not HTTYD2, then they could have at least gone with Song of the Sea or The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, which were two of the best animated films in the last few years and objectively the best animated films from last year.
But no. They had to vote for Big Hero 6 because "muh kids liked it. lol Baymax is cute!!! Disney is unstoppable."
I love Zootopia and want it to win the Oscar, but that fact doesn't diminish my immense hatred for Disney and their autistic fanbase.
>>80981186
Oh whoops sorry I misunderstood you.
Yeah, Monsters U got the shaft. Academy doesn't really like Pixar sequels it seems, which is definitely beneficial to Zootopia.
>>80981239
>>80979990
>people think the academy gives a flying fuck about anything animated
They don't even watch the copies given to them after nomination. They're open about their total disdain for animated and CG films.
>>80981114
I suppose it is a bit more pronounced. A bit bulge-looking, yes.
>mfw dickgirl Judy
>>80981260
This
Older generation still thinks that animated cartoons/movies are mindless comedy nonsense, because that's what cartoons were when they were kids.
It's going to take another generation or two before animated movies are given the same amounts of fame and attention that non-animated movies get.
>>80981260
To be honest the only Animation Oscar I care about for the future is 2018 where I hope to GOD How to Train Your Dragon 3 wins and sends off the series with a statue.
Plus it would be beyond poetic for it to win the Oscar over Toy Story 4 when Toy Story 3 basically overshadowed HTTYD throughout all of award season.
Though now after I saw Zootopia I must admit - I care about this year. I know I shouldn't since the voters don't, but I REALLY want to see it win the Oscar instead of Finding Dory or Moana.
Somehow the idea of Nick and Judy "winning" over a stupid princess movie piggy-backing the success of Frozen and a Pixar sequel that the masses will throw their money at and say "changed their lives" even if it's actually mediocre makes me smile
>>80979990
The Oscar will go to Moana. The people who vote for the Oscars don't care about animation, and if they vote, just vote for the most recent Disney film. And that will be Moana.
>>80981522
If Moana even has ONE catchy song, it'll get it.
And I won't mind at all. I love all 2DR movies. Except Bolt. Never watched it, not interested.
>>80981522
Could these shitheads at least hire judges that are willing to watch the films?
When half the judges are abstaining because they didn't watch the films, that's really indicative of a huge fucking problem.
>>80981522
Ya know... if we really want Zootopia to win why don't we just meme it into happening?
Memes helped Leo win the Oscar last year.
Memes are paving the path for the Presidential elections.
Why can't we make memes about how the Academy voters are full of crap and blindly vote Pixar/Disney year in and year out?
Also why not make memes for Zootopia or analysis on why it deserves the Oscar more than either Finding Dory or Moana?
We can push the films we want to win.I plan on doing something similar for when HTTYD3 comes out and it has to compete w. Toy Story 4 and Gigantic
>>80981553
what the fuck is a 2DR movie?
>>80981564
>hire judges
you don't actually know how the academy awards works, do you?
>>80981587
Nope, but when judges are outright stating that they didn't watch the films, they need to be replaced with people who will.
>>80981607
who gets the award is decided by all of the academy members, around 6000 members.
the technical awards are decided by those that do those jobs, like editing, sound mixing, so on. best actor, actress, animated picture and so on are decided by all of the members, they all get the chance to vote.
>>80981607
You STILL don't know how the academy works. I'll give you time to learn google...
>>80981657
Wrong.
Tech branches vote for the nominees, but the winner is chosen by the entire academy.
That's why while the animation nominees tend to be more daring and out-of-the-box, the winners are always the most predictable, boring choices - many times choices that are not deserved.
>>80981667
Would you care to explain to me the apparent good reason why the people who are picked to judge movies, are not watching them and then refusing to judge?
Oh wait, you're just using the "lol google it" meme, nevermind.
>>80979990
it really wasn't that good. It was small. It wasn't really funny. And it contradicts it's own message at times.
>>80981785
a judge abstaining from voting in a category they know nothing about is fine, they shouldn't vote in that category
the problem is when the people voting know nothing about what they're doing, or judge the movie on "my kids liked it" rather than on the merits of the movie itself.
>>80981822
Frozen's entire story was based on contradicting its own message and it won the Oscar.
>"remember, you need to make sure Elsa feels loved otherwise she could lose control of her powers."
>"lol okay, so we lock her in her bedroom and hide her from the world! Sounds logical."
>>80981785
I think what he's trying to explain is: People are not picked to judge a movie. Every single member gets a vote to judge the movie. Nobody is singled out and told "you, you get to vote for XXX".
>>80981785
You can do your own homework.
Unless Moana is superb I think its got the best Animated Film in the bag
It might get so other awards as well (best original song, best grafix, ect)
>watching commie propganda
>>80981958
People seem to assume that individuals that work in the entertainment industry are somehow more enlightened and nuanced than the general public. They are not. They're just as many tow headed retards working on movies as there are in the general public.
>>80979990
>>80980309
Maybe one for technical development. It was the first Disney film to be made in Disney's new rendering system and was the first movie to use certain types of specifically enigneered animation software. Best film? Unfortunately no. Best animated film? Maybe. Besides, Oscars are a a very poor measure of animation quality.
>>80980099
REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>80982004
And, from what we've learned in the past few years, quite a lot of academy members don't even work in the industry anymore (and haven't for decades) and yet since they're permanent members, they get votes as well.
>>80982229
I don't expect it to ever win Best Film. But a nomination might be possible if they go diversity-rebound from this year's #oscarsstillsowhite considering the film's themes.
>>80981248
Hopefully that means Finding Dory will get the shaft too.
At that point it will depend on if Zootopia gets nominated and Moana doesn't, since the voters will probably just vote for the most recent Disney movie.
>>80982229
>DoesThisLookLikeTheFaceOfMercy.jpg
>>80982464
>>80979990
Expect possible nods for:
>Best Animated Feature
>Best Original Song
>Best Original Screenplay
No way it wins the latter two; it might win Animated Feature, depending on how Moana and Finding Dory are received. Its biggest uphill battle is the fact that it was released so early in the year (see: The Lego Movie).

LEGO is one of the few companies that I actually like, and the product they sell is incredible. They put 90% of their annual earnings towards R&D, support programs for their workers, and charitable organizations. Those Danes run a pretty based company.
>>80983586
you know what's Lego's motto?
"Only the best is good enough"
it applies to almost everything lego does. that's why this is such based toy company.
>>80983707
Disney has a long standing contract with LEGO, so I'm praying that we get a line of Zootopia sets. I'm not sure how the characters would translate over into minifigs, but if they do it right they could look really good. I'd love a set of the train, police department, a few of the different districts, Judy's police cruiser, etc. Those would look great in LEGO form. Hell I have a lot of maroon parts and have been considering buying specific chima figs just so I can make Finnick's van.

>>80985449
9.5/10. The ending is a bit rushed but otherwise it's excellent
>>80985336
Is this real? I'm not sure what to think of a director openly shipping couples from his project. If it was his solo thing, it could be a sign that it's pretty much canon, but there are two other directors.
Is Moore gay? Is having a Clawhauser icon his subtle way of coming out to the public?
>>80985449
The story is avarage Disney , mabey 7/10, there were some scenes that caused many to feel
The animation is easily 9/10 if not 10/10
The characters are 9/10, that's the sticking point, the characters are really well done for a Disney movie
>>80985449
9/10
There's very little that keeps it from being perfect.
>>80985512
The story was more poetic than most Disney stories. Judy's flaws and development are beyond the Disney standard and the first scene tying in later was fantastic. There are some holes that require suspension of disbelieve, which isn't something you want to do in a movie that's trying to be "real." Story is 8.5/10 for me

>>80986111
Speaking of dance number at the end, holy shit did they dodge a bullet with the original script where the final scene is at a Gazelle performance at a world fair. The transition from a good ending to a nice credit sequence/epilogue is preferable to a straight "thanks for saving the day, now let's forget about the decades of shock collars and just dance!"

It will pick up at least best animated picture and a host of technical Oscars (which have their own show that no-one really watches, because it's all geeky tech guys with no celebrities). They will also give Try Everything a nomination for best original song so that they can have a live performance of it during the show, but it probably won't win.
It's ever so possible that it might get a nomination for best original screenplay, because while it's a somewhat straightforward buddy cop film they managed to tackle the subject of prejudice and bias in a way that was remarkably inclusive, and understandable for kids. It's culturally relevant while also being an entertaining for both adults and kids.
I wouldn't expect them to push it for best picture, though. There is always going to be a bunch of oscar bait movies that are more attractive to the academy, and Zootopia would quickly get lost in the shuffle. The year Return of the King won best picture was the year that they needed to prove that they weren't out of touch with mainstream movie preferences, and this year they feel like they need to prove that they're not racist by nominating more black movies and actors.
There might come a year where the Academy feels the need to recognize animation as a viable format by nominating or even awarding best picture to an animated film, but that's not going to happen this year, and that's ironic because Zootopia is a parable about racial and ethnic tolerance.
I hope Disney does a little animation gag for them where we get to see Nick and Judy dressed up in evening wear for the Oscars, though. They had Mickey Mouse present a category a few years ago because they love that stuff.

Average Academy voter is white, male, over 63, and doesn't watch animation. So Zootopia is a shoe-in for Best Animated, because it was made by Disney, despite the fact that no Academy voters watched it.

That actually helps it with the coming Oscars. A kids movie that deals with prejudice in a very mature way and isn't heavy-handed about it coming after last year's tossup? There isn't a better situation to release it into.

I wasn't being condescending, I was seriously asking. I'm a straight too is why but I love that goat ass
Man, Disney doesn't pull punches when they make animated films.
And looking at the concept art for the dystopian original script had me horrified. Would've watched the hell out of it, but still horrified. Probably would've been one of the darkest Disney films to date if it had stayed.
