they sink though, I used to keep a tortoise and they need to have a pool to drink from. They will walk into it and submerge their entire body, but it's very important the water is shallow enough that it can poke its head above the surface while it's standing at the bottom and a ramp to get out of the pool once it's in otherwise it will drown. They don't swim, they just walk along the bottom
