Garth Ennis Protagonist is a white male with black hair and a dirty mouth. He is ostensibly non-powered, but preforms feats of strength and endurance impossible for a human. hHe is ostensibly a "No-nonsense hero" that attacks in the most efficient way possible, but often preforms totally ridiculous strategies that would never work in real life because Ennis finds it funny. He is ostensibly a tortured soul, despite being consistently portrayed as a psychopath who never feels the slightest bit of empathy for his opponents.
Garth Ennis Protagonist is usually pitted against ostensibly superpowered opponents who either don;t have powers or just forget about their powers whenever they fight Garth Ennis character. His opponents are also often sexual deviants (NOTE: Sexual deviants are very funny, regardless of whether or not there's any sort of set-up, sexual deviancy is a punchline in and of itself) who are marginally more brutal then Garth Ennis Protagonist, which makes it OK for GEP to perform ridiculous feats of brutality

You can apply this crap to tons of other heroes, caped and non. In order to enforce justice and law to such dramatic and extreme degrees, you have to have seriously bad guys. When you've got a guy brutal as Frank, his foes have to be seriously twisted to be believably threatening.

2.) Frank doesn't always kill. It depends on the offenders, like the IRA guys and similar. Broken bones and minor wounds and scare tactics are all part of his arsenal too.

Arguable. The point of that scene was to make it clear that there isn't always a third option. In the real world, there will always be at least one impossible situation, where there are no good options, and moral absolutism will do you no favors.

Kind of mixed on it myself. On the one hand Matt isn't a retard and he can tell when he's been given a gun that won't fire, and their actual interaction was way better than the comic version. On the other hand it makes Frank look like a total retard for giving Matt a loaded gun and it gives Matt a way out rather than bringing him down to the Punisher's level, which was partly why Frank did it in the first place.

What happened is the Punisher is captured by the kid's shitbag family, who plan to sell him off to the highest bidder. Kid's granddad thinks they should kill the Punisher right away, because he correctly believes that the Punisher will get free and murder the hell out of them.
One of the kid's uncles kills the old man, beats up the kid. Kid frees the Punisher, who kills two of his uncles but is too fucked up to do anything else. After a standoff, the kid gets around the other guy and manages to kill him.
Once it's all over the kid considers capturing the Punisher himself, Punisher just kills him.
I really wish writers didn't flip flop on who Frank kills or not.

I can forgive this because this version is Punisher very early in his career, so he's bound to make slip-ups. Ennis' Punisher is more like a far, far more experienced vigilante (and Daredevil operated longer than Punisher). You could say that in Ennis' story that Daredevil couldn't tell the gun couldn't fire because his senses got messed up by Punisher prior.

This reminded me of something. Did anyone else notice DD was actually having a bit of fun in a few episodes this season? I know I caught him smiling in the first episode when he was fighting. Then in the third episode, when he has the gun to that biker mook's head, he pulled the trigger then smirked. Culturally, it is in my experience.
As in when you pick up or smoke you start meeting people who either indulge in the harder stuff or know how to get it. Ex-junkie, never saw a junkie who didn't gradually end up there by learning who they could get it from then life kicking them in the balls hard enough that they wanted it. Hell, even the ex-military I knew had tried SOMETHING before they left and when they came back with habits from morphine drips and poppy fields, they started looking for opiates either from other former soldiers or from the guys they had smoked weed with in high school.
