>>

>>
Overrated but still very good. I'm not quite sure why something like this had people clamoring for a Best Feature Film animation whereas 9 was considered a huge disappointment not worth talking about when, in my eyes, they had a lot of the same strengths and weaknesses. A cynical part of me wants to say "lack of love story in the latter."
>>
>>80938162
Fuck what I meant to say is "Best Feature Film (not necessarily animated) nomination", which it didn't get but a lot of people moaned about it not getting. It's really not surprising that it won Best Animated Feature Film, even if I didn't know how that award works.
>>
>>80938162
9 never bothered to get us to care about the characters before it started killing them off
>>

>best animated movie of all time

No. But it's my favorite Pixar film by far.

Very simple, tight story, likable characters (even the fatties). It's practically Chekov's Gun: The Movie. It feels like everything that happens has a purpose beyond its initial appearance. It feels like it's woven together instead of just a few threads to connect action sequences.
>>
I, OP, made that gif BTW. Thoughts?

Awesome movie. One of only 2 Pixar OST's that I listen to. I wish the movie was in 3D.

The AI running the ship "Otto", must have been running some sort of draconian population control program.

While the ship in Wall-E appeared to have no problem renewing resources. The space on the ship was finite. The people have been on that ship in deep space for hundreds of years. So Otto must have been keeping the birth rate down.

No, but it's definitely one of my favorite animated movies and by far my favorite Pixar movie.

Christ I remember seeing it in the cinema

I just got done watching Coraline for the first time since it was released on DVD, I didn't pay attention to it too much at the time, so I guess this was technically my first viewing experience of it whole.

I think it's the only animated movie I've watched where I was extremely unnerved but interested. Certainly one of the few that makes me very spooked.

I guess it's just my view since it did more for me than most movies, but I think it's one of the greatest to me.

Wall-e was good too, saw it in theaters and everything. Had it's soundtrack but that's long lost now. It's on my top favorite list too. Also I have a small excerpt stuck in my head from the end credits music. Guess I'll probably go listen to that to give closure.

For me it really is a toss up between the two movies.

Wall-E was a wonderful flick that for me really drove home how much detail you can get into a movie, the start of the movie on Earth is just astounding to me.

Ratatouille is also a favorite, mostly because I too love to cook, and the way that they show flavor in the movie is a lot like how things work for me. I find it very difficult to describe tastes without using color and movement, and seeing that on screen really clicked with me.

People consider Wall-E one of the best animated movies of all time?

It's okay, but it's far from the best of all time. Pretty much everything with the robots are great (aside from logic-based nitpicks that can be brushed aside for a kid's movie), but the humans are just so boring. The joke is that humans become fat and lazy. That's it. That's every single human scene. Not to mention the "we held hands, now we're in love" scene, where the only payoff was that shitty "get ready to have some kids" joke. Secondly, why does going back to the planet and planting ONE plant actually work? It felt like an extremely cheap ending that was slapped on just so that there could be a conclusion. How did the plant even survive on its own in a boot? It's implied that Wall-E has been doing his job for ages, how did that plant not die? I know these are nitpicks, but when they're what the plot of the entire movie is based on, you gotta wonder.

That being said, Wall-E was a pretty good movie. It's just that the human scenes are boring to sit through and just have you wondering how long it'll be until the robots show back up. If you just subtracted the humans from the movie all-together, THEN it would be the best animated movie of all time. Or at least the best 3D animated movie of all time.
