Before the skyfathers made good characters. Even when they were petty or unjust, they did so with a certain amount of majesty and presence. It made them *feel* like gods. When they acted, it had weight.
Look at the fight however. Does it feel like Thor is fighting against all odds? It's someone who's supposed to be the champion of the Asgardians fighting their king, the most powerful of them all. Instead it feels like a sideline, the more epic stuff happening is clearly the rebellion lead by Freyja followed by Loki's "betrayal"
It the end, the fight is a petty little brawl. They're barely bloodied. School yard fights have been fought with more brutality and meaning than that fight.

The fight was bad. Odin has far more powers than Gor. Gor was strong but that was basically it. He didn't have blasts and things like that. He can't freeze time or seperate Heven from the world-tree when he gets angry.

This is true. After re-reading JMS Thor... it wasn't very good. It had some high points, but it wasn't very good. JMS didn't messed up the lore.
