Fuck no, I'm just so tired of his face and fanbase ... which oddly enough only seems to like him if he's in shenanigans with that Watson actor he starred with in BBC Sherlock. I know that his movie about the Wikileaks founder flopped horribly, even though he was quite sure his "cumberbitches" would see it, but people happily projected the Watson/Sherlock dynamic onto Smaug and Bilbo.

No. He can't act for shit. He's had several chances and everything he plays he just dicaprios into the ground. All he has going for him is his looks and his typecasting.

>>80884756
I don't think it's fair to say his acting was a level above. He performed well and had a more serious character and Rey and Finn were a little goofy at times, but Boyega and Ridley still performed well. There may be more to appreciate about Driver's character, but no performance seemed a level above any other.

Dark Empire sure was stupid. I gave it another read recently. Time hasn't made it any better.
>>
>>80885277
The whole premise of Luke falling to the dark side is shitting on OT almost as much as the prequels did, if not more.
>>
>>80885218
Yeah, symmetry is a big deal when it comes to people's perception of attractiveness. There are many studies that go over this and it is not limited to faces. The McDonald's logo for example, it is symmetrical to draw people's eyes to it.

>>80885244
Not everybody's faces are symmetrical, but evidently some are more than others. They also don't have to be perfectly symmetrical, just symmetrical enough to catch somebody's attention. Driver's is undoubtedly unsymmetrical to most at first glance. They may not literally think it is asymmetrical, but they will notice something it is off.
>>
>>80885289
>Luke falling to the dark side
I want this, to be honest. It could work with Snoke being the evilest evil and Luke being manipulative like Sheev.

ROTJ was all about Luke coming closer and closer to the dark side and, in the climax confronting it only to ultimately reject it. He should for all intents and purposes be incorruptible
>>
>>80885557
>I want this, to be honest.
It's a terrible idea. Luke's arc of spiritual growth came to a pointed, resonant conclusion with the throne room scene in Return. Going backwards with Luke being some evil lord would only make for a contrived mess. Aside from the visceral response of "Woah! Evil Luke!" there's no reason to take it that direction.
>>
>>80885557
>Luke being manipulative like Sheev.
But that is entirely out of character for Luke. Sheev has been manipulative since before the movies. Luke started out as a dumb as dirt farmer boy and didn't become the hero of the Rebellion by being a mastermind. If his own father, who he idolized, or the Sheevster himself couldn't turn him, then nobody could. Not even himself.
>>
>>80885608
>that image
This stuff can be corny, but it's the visual storytelling like this and the other little things that makes me love Star Wars so much much more.
>>
>>80885608
Dodging a bullet once does not make you bulletproof. Add a few decades of Mothma shitting the place up, endless war against empire remnants and general disarray as nobody trusts the new republic to not be shit, and then ask him how he feels.
>>
>>80885660
It doesn't matter. The point is it's a very contrived and pointless development for Luke given everything we know about him, and more importantly would undermine the thematic significance of that very character arc. The story would gain nothing from it but a chance to put Hamill in black.
>>
>>80885628
Luke is already different in TFA though. He went into hiding for no reason and probably sent his own daughter to live with scum. Doesn't look like a good old Luke.
>>
>>80885660
I doubt he's feeling bad compared to how the way he felt during the final confrontation with Vader and the Emperor while he was watching the demise of the Rebellion and still managed to resist temptation.

>a few decades of Mothma shitting the place up
How do we know anything about the New Republic? Is this in one of the novels?
>endless war against empire remnants
A treaty was signed which wasn't broken until VII
>nobody trusts the new republic to not be shit
Again how do we know this? I doubt the people feel like things were better when they had to worry about being burned alive by an Imperial hit squad.
>>
>>80885716
>He went into hiding for no reason
I remember it being explained or implied that he goes into hiding because of Kylo's betrayal and he also needs to find out about Snoke. Visiting old Jedi Temples most likely has something to do with that.

>sent his own daughter to live with scum
Does that make him bad? If Rey is his daughter than he would have done it to protect her. It's like how he was left with his Uncle and Aunt so Vader wouldn't find him. It's like poetry, it rhymes.

If anything, he is unhappy. I don't see how anything could indicate him turning evil. He certainly is different because of how much older he is, but I don't think he's a different person fundamentally. Also remember that Obi-Wan has done pretty much the same things as you said Luke has, but Obi-Wan is still a good guy.
>>
>>80885716
His own nephew, perhaps his prized pupil, destroyed the work of his life. We don't know what he was looking for at the First Jedi Temple not why he didn't came back.

Also Rey may not he his daughter, or he could believe sur was dead, or could not know he vas à child. Anyway it's not Luke who left her on Jakku.

Except the 'Resistance' and funding it.

there is a rather large difference between the two.

Leaving an infant boy with his actual (even if they are by-marriage-relations) family, in a relatively safe homestead, with a family income, and one of the greatest Jedi Master's of the age as a covert guardian...

And leaving a little girl 'safe' with an alien who would only use her for profit (in a totally 'PG' rated way, as this is Disney, not HBO) where she would be forced to learn how to defend herself with a metal pole, after learning how much victims suffer, do life threatening labor to scrape by for over a decade, and live by herself in a ruined war machine. She even hates to be touched, if you note how she first reacts to Finn. Classic signs of someone who has had a hard life.

My personal belief is that after Kylo 'saves' her at the academy, he couldn't bear to kill her, and was the one who spared her by leaving her on the dustball. I really doubt it was Luke. He may even have believed she died, thus one of the motives to live on that planet.

The First Order broke the Galactic Concordance first, as they had stormtroopers and capital ships.

The Resistance is not directly fund by the Republic, but by some senators. Leia and her group are seen as warmongers and mill-crusaders.

>WHAT GIRL??
The Resistance droid with the map to Luke stole a freighter, accompanied by a traitor stormtrooper who know about Starkiller. The situation was getting out of hand, a contrary to the other two she was an unknown in the equation. Kylo Ren is unstable, and just destroyed a control panel. So yeah, it fits with his character if he doesn't know her.

Besides, he never call her by name (only as "the girl" or "the scavenger"), is surprised BB-8 show her the map, or that she is strong in the Force.

>IT IS YOU!!

The awakening he felt earlier. It was her leaving Jakku.

Kylo Ren has a fascination to Rey, but it seems more to me he has no idea who she is. Maybe suspicions, but it's only when she grabs the lightsaber he seems to have a revelation (and thus mean he didn't know before).
>>
>>80886203

From what I heard that was explained in the bits of Leia's arc that were cut out.
Basically the resistance is a bunch of people that do not agree with the republics political stance of sitting on their ass and want to continue fighting the remnants of the empire until they are all gone. Which is why they are just a badly equipped and unorganized like the Rebels.

Basically Leia is a Senator by day and the leader of the Resistance by night.

So before the canon wipe did the movie pages on wook reference EU stuff? For example did the ROTJ page talk about how the Emperor couldn't use battle meditation during the battle of Endor and that's what caused the stormtroopers to get their shit completely wrecked by ewoks? They nitpick details and bring them into canon.

For example,

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kosh

Kosh is a character from Legends who they liked, and have made Canon. His stories in Legends are Non-Canon, but he as a character still exists, and can be used in new, Canon stories.

Vong still aren't technically canon. The only thing we know is Filoni had an idea and a sketch but we don't know if they ever got a script on it, or if it even got Lucas approval.

I think anon (whichever one first mentioned referential humor) meant >>80884627 as in meta-joke.

As in "oh boy doesn't nearly everybody hate Jar Jar, oh look people in-universe hate him too!" This is the kind of referencing of real life reactions that began creeping into TCWs, or was always there depending on how you consider Bombad Jedi when the moment Padme hears about her ship being destroyed she deadpans, "Jar Jar?" to which Threepio wearily replies, "Jar Jar."

That's one certain point of view on the matter, anyway.
>>
>>80891441
It makes perfect sense when dealing with a highly-psychic species that may or may not share a collective consciousness, or if their actual species name is Kosh and everyone just called them Vorlons because the secretive fucks never told anyone their actual name.
>>
>>80891560
... I'm the poster behind that original post, and I just like to share the images I find, they're not meant to reflect the contents of my post in those cases. Maybe I should've stopped posting a long time ago.
>>
>>80891723
Alternate theory: all that time Kosh in their native language meant, "I'm really horny and about five seconds from bending you over backwards."
>>
>>80888383
A few months ago I went to that museum exhibition about the costumes of Star Wars. The part that showed Luke's RotJ oufit had a little anecdote about Mark Hammil and George Lucas.

Mark had told George that he thought Luke's outfit was a bit odd since he thought it looked like something Vader would wear. George replied "good".
>>
>>80891773
I would lose my shit if someone had said "Hit it and quit it" in Kosh's voice.
>>
>>80891723
But we know that isn't true since we see that our Kosh disagreed with the other Vorlons during their whole genocide thing.
The other Vorlon on B5 even had another name.
>>
>>80891806

>>
>>80891854
Ulkesh.
>>
>>80891937
>novel name
>never named in the show

Uh huh
>>
>>80892016
I swear that it was.
I've never read any novels.

The point is moot anyways since it's very clear that every Vorlon is a separate being and not part of a species wide conciousness

Otherwise Kosh and the other Vorlon wouldn't be able to fight as the did
>>
>>80891560
Well, Qui-Gon pretty much imply he is stupid and Obi-Wan call him a pathetic lifeform. So yeah, even in-universe not a lot of people like Jar Jar.

Also Jar Jar basically gave Palpatine the power he needed to create an army and fight the separatists without giving a chance to diplomacy. Basically ruining years of Padme's work. No wonder if she has a grudge against him.
>>
>>80891806
Bringing this back into a galaxy far far away, it's entirely possible for a hive mind/psychic gestalt to debate itself and even have separate names for it's various individual bodies (as any "part" of it an individual represents can be seen as having a function rather than a personality or mind of it's own).

Basically because individuals debate amongst themselves all the time. Various desires, fear, etc all vying with our rational self. The Priestesses Yoda met were supposed said by Filoni (as his conceptualization of them) as a single entity whose emotional aspects had become rather abstracted into their own component self. Therefore it's possible for her to debate whether to train Yoda, arguing with her various selves and the emotions and thoughts they represent.

Not even saying that's the case, I never liked B5 and barely watched it, but just laying out possibilities in as Star Wars a manner as possible.
>>
>>80892053
There's also the fact that Kosh never referred to himself as "I", nor did any Vorlon voices (like the one Lyta used). It was always "we" when referring to themselves. Kosh only ever used the singular in a dream vision to Sheridan while assuming the likeness of his father. I don't think you can have a highly-psychic species without some measure of collective consciousness, even if the integrated parts are still capable of individual decisions.
>>
>>80892078
Jar Jar himself implied it, or at least terminally clumsy (to other people). Qui-Gon showed annoyance at times, vulcan nerve pinching him with the Force to stop him screaming (a technique we've never really seen again, though somewhat similar to Kylo Ren's ability to render Rey unconscious) and thought he was being annoying or at least discourteous using his tongue at Shmi's.

Other than that Qui-Gon didn't really render much judgement of people. It was one of the nice things about him. Liam Neeson was a damn fine choice, able to seem knowing even without stating it. Like his complete lack of surprise when Padme revealed she was the real queen, his expression suggested he knew all along. Other Jedi, especially later on, were much more proactive while Qui-Gon seemed to read events and only applied what pressure was needed through his own actions to shape events according to how he felt destiny wanted them to play out. And the funny thing is if we cannot say he was more correct in his interpretation of the Force than the others, he was at least onto a path of discovery the others had rejected as foolhardy if now outright heretical (something that in the Jedi Order seems to mean Mace glares at you silently until you feel bad, and which ironically most main character Jedi, Anakin especially, was immune).
>>
>>80892191
If the part of the whole can disagree enough to the point where it comes to "physical" violence and the extermination of another part, then there aren't united enough to fall under one name at all times.
Because even if they don't have a vocalization associated with each being, it is obviously important enough to differentiate them.

Besides, if Kosh was their name for themselves, why does the term "Vorlon" exist?
Isn't that redundant?
>>

>>
>>80892437
Why are all CIA agents named 'Felix'? Because they tell everyone who asks that they're named 'Felix'.
>>
>>80892191
It's also possible that they cannot truly die. Imagine a species evolved to the point where their consciousness resides on a collective psychic plane. They can choose to act through the bodies of their species. In essence destroying the body or physical vessel is pointless since the psychic essence remains and can assert itself within a new vessel.

Something similar to how I've wondered the Force may or at least should theoretically work. Yoda calls death the "forever sleep" which it seems to be for most beings. Their consciousness goes dormant after death. Some suggest it's even destroyed, but then how could it be? The Cosmic Force is outside of normal time and space. To it, you are alive, dead, and not yet born all at the same time. It cannot lose you because you've always been a part of it even since before you were conceived.

It might be, could be (should be?), theoretically possible to...awaken a consciousness within the Force. I imagine it would take an incredibly strong willpower but it should be possible to pull together a conscious mind within the Force who has otherwise passed into their netherworld. Not even necessarily as creating a Force Ghost but think old school spiritualists in the real world who claim they can summon the souls of the dead for a chat. Something that with the Force would be more than a hokey way to fleece the rubes. Call up a consciousness for a chat and then it goes to sleep when you release it with the Force.

I guess it can go back to Sentinel/Inky. Was he merely a vision controlled by Yoda or did Yoda summon parts of Inky to serve in his play? Even if he didn't, could he? Even after the Yoda arc and all they explained, all we know is that the Force is more mysterious than even the Jedi have known. Ever known? Maybe we'll find out more clues when Luke finds the first Jedi Temple.
>>
>>80892574
Since we know Qui-Gon was active and keeping a watch on events, like Anakin and the Sand People, it's actually pretty sad to imagine Qui-Gon seeing what Dooku has become and just shaking his head sadly, forbidden to interfere with events.
>>
>>80892610
Maybe it has to do with the CIA character in the Bond novels/films named Felix.
>>
>>80892662
So, AOTC would've ended with Qui-Gon and Anakin versus Dooku?

That would've been a duel to see.
>>
>>80892723
That's the point. If a Vorlon gets asked what it is by a non-Vorlon and responds "A Vorlon", then that non-Vorlon will refer to them as Vorlons thereafter because it knows no other name for them. All that has to happen to trigger an alternative name for a species if for that species to never reveal their actual name for themselves.

One of the things I think failed with the "Luke is tempted to the dark side" idea is that there isn't anything that makes Luke seem like he'd want to join the Emperor. There's nothing in it for him on a personal level. Luke's main goal is to save his friends and the Emperor wants to kill his friends.

What should've been done is that the Emperor should've cared more about the continued existence of the dark side rather than he himself ruling it with Luke as his apprentice. Luke's desire to protect the people around him is already shown to make him do extreme things(selling out the droids to Jabba for a time, putting them at risk, using force movies on Jabba's guards, having an inflated sense of his own power). It should've been less of "Luke is tempted to join the Empire", which isn't believable, and more like "Luke is tempted to abuse his powers to save his friends and instill order which might be a bigger threat than the Empire itself". Luke only has a partial idea of what a Jedi is, and that should be a dangerous thing. At the end he's the only being we know of that has the powers he does, would'e bee a great uncertain ending as to what he'll do with these newfound abilities.

Those troopers, man. Does the cargo section have independent life support? Seems unlikely, doesn't it? If they are lucky it has a transpoder in case of pirate hijacking, if exceptionally lucky it has a whole cargo container full of them for transport. Do I know exactly that it's sealed, like do I have a tweet from Pablo? Of course not. ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Director Rian Johnson Hit With Lawsuit by Former Agent

http://variety.com/2016/film/news/star-wars-rian-johnson-lawsuit-former-agent-1201734203/

It's clusterfucking already.
>>
>>80894167
It's not fully sealed. There's a hole where the cargo connects to the ship to walk in.

>>80894202
You don't understand how it works, do you?

ALL living things have midi-chlorians because The Force is in everything. This does not automatically made them force sensitive. Only some are sensitive to The Force, and this goes hand in hand with having a certain amount of midi-chlorians.
>>
>>80893533
That's not how this works, anon.

Those cargo containers are FULL of pod racer parts. Kallus played it cool in season 1 but he HAS to save the pod racer parts, they are his dearest things in the galaxy. Where other Imperials fail and give up he will keep going.
>>
>>80894234
That's precisely how they work
>Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force. When you learn to quiet your mind, you'll hear them speaking to you
>>
>>80894265
Airlocks, double sealed doors that meet up on the outerfacing sides, and beyond that they also have emergency vacuum shields.

Put it this way, it's a space truck and an oceanic cargo hauler in one. A bunch of trailers connected up. Pirates go after that, one tactic will be to try to separate the cargo section from the ship. If it spaces that section it kills all the troops, thereby making the pirate's job easier.
>>
>>80894303
Everyone has Midichlorians, but I don't think you understand what "Force Sensitive" implies.
>>
>>80894303
No, you're really not getting this. The Midi-Chlorians help facilitate life and speak the will of the Force.

But you have to BE Force Sensitive in order to hear them and bend the Force to your will.

Those two things are entirely independent. Force Sensitive doesn't mean you have the Force inside you, it just means that you are sensitive to the Force inside you. Hence Force Sensitive. If you aren't sensitive you are deaf to the Force inside you.

Try watching the season 6 arc with Talzin vs. Dooku that talks about how the Living Force exists in everyone but in Force Sensitives to a much higher degree. It's a Jar Jar arc, you'll love it.

The Force talks to all, and those who can listen respond. There was an animal on Force heavy Dagobah who was able to see and snap at Qui-Gon's Force light motes as they zipped past. The ancient fish monster on Dathomir is also chocked full of the Force.

Why do you expect the Force to tell an animal to pick up a lightsaber? Why do you expect the Force only concerns itself with the mundane crap sentient beings get up to? The Force is in everything. Every bug, every plant, every animal. They all have their own destiny only if it's simplified to eat, crap, sleep and mate. The Force does not judge.

>>
>>80894621
Well shit, I was trying to channel some Qui-Gon when writing this but it just reads like ten tons of douchey. Guess I should have tossed in some "my young padawan"s or something.
>>
>>80894682
Although SOMETHING appeared in front of their ship before the vision, I always thought Mortis existed WITHIN the Force.

Granted being inside the Force would obviously be an extremely strong-in-the-Force location by default. Similarly the Force planet seems to reside so closely to outside the galaxy and within the Force itself that things like physics were just strange. Hell, Artoo couldn't even detect anything around them.

Not contradicting you or anything, just thinking of these as types of locations strong in the Force. Mortis is WITHIN the Force, the Force Planet where Yoda met the Priestesses was a border location, and Dagobah is fully in this galaxy but just strong with background Force energies.

So if the Force can warp time I wonder if it warps it differently in each location, stronger the more within the Force it is, or since the Force is sentient (in it's own unknowing way) whether it can alter time to different degrees.
>>
>>80894202

Then how is he a "true Jedi" at that point when Yoda tells him he won't be a Jedi until he faces Vader for real?
>>
i'm glad leia got put in her place in her rebels episode

that preview made her come off as the biggest bitch ever.
>>
>>80896003
Yeah, TFA is very Hunger Games/Doctor Who in it's design.
>>
>>80896045

the original question wasn't about whether or not luke was a true question.

it was if tesb luke could beat current ezra. which he can't.
>>
>>80896054
You mean, exactly how she was in ANH?
>>
>>80896054

Leia is kind of a bitch when she's "on mission". She's serious, talks down to everyone (Including people she just met), and barks orders.

But she's also fairly competent, and her character has always had more than just being bitchy.

Its not sexist to say a female character is a bitch.
>>
>>80896115

how am i being sexist.

she was being incredibly snarky to people who've had more experience than her at the beginning of the episode and who had much more at risk by helping her.

I think maul is going to kill the new inquisitor that shows up using his true lightsaber staff skills.

>The Force talks to all, and those who can listen respond.

The Force talks to all and works through all, whether they know, care or want it to or not. And even if you can't hear it and act accordingly, then it'll put into motion the conditions for events to proceed as they eventually should. There are obviously going to be some detours (Anakin's turning being the most major) but the Force always sees to set things right in time.

My issue though is when to separate a character's free will in their own decisions from the Force's subtle, if not indiscernible influence. Because people are obviously going to complain about that when the suggestion comes up that it wasn't just Han's decision to turn around and save Luke at the last second in the trench, but indeed a nudge from the Force.

i know they like each other, but why does she get worried when she's the one that pushed him to embrace being a jedi?
