I'm acquaintances with two of the storyboarders of the show. I couldn't get a concrete answer from them, because they told me they literally have no idea, but the second half of season 2 has already been animated, voiced, and produced. They're ready to roll out, it's just on CN's prerogative. Nobody's happy about this situation on the SU-team, CN apparently is terrible with communication.

Cartoon Network treats their effort and quality shows horribly. TTG and PPG have cheap animation, writing, and production so they try advertising it way more to make more money. Why else do you think Johnny Test lasted for so long?

Kids like SU, but not as much as they like TTG/PPG. This is a myth that needs to be debunked on both /co/ and the respective reddit subs. Yeah, these lower quality shows do cost less to produce, but they also score better with CN's target demographic.
We love Steven Universe because it's creative, it tackles issues that other shows don't while not being preachy about it, it has great storytelling and amazing character development that makes it easy to get immersed in and talk about with a community.
Kids like Teen Titans GO because it's fast-paced, it's silly and it's "xD so random!". I watched it with my godson, and he was cracking up throughout the whole show. I thought it was bad, but I'm an older guy and it's not for me. That's all there is to it.

I'm a fan of the composers of the show, the music is always made with the story and animation in mind which is interesting. The gems personality are somewhat related to their gem, such as Ruby being assertive and very loyal and Pearl being organized and slightly neurotic.
