My assumption is that they want to render the chest logo with digital effects/color rather than pencil it in.

I've been of the opinion for a while now that it should be a high quality, practical suit enhanced with CGI.
It shouldn't be fully practical, because GL's suit is sometimes depicted as being a construct generated by the ring. But we all remember what happened the last time they made the suit 100% CG. So, a balance between the two would be ideal.

Being back on Earth is a step in the right direction in my opinion. The book has gotten a lot better because of it but that recent Parallax issue was the last straw for Venditti. I've given him a lot of chances but he really fucked that meetup badly.
