Who had the most iconic design? And why is it Batman?
>>
>>80809738
Because Batman's costume is red and blue
>>
>>80809738
I'm gonna bypass your bait and explain why it's Superman. From a broad cultural perspective, Superman established the platonic ideal of a superhero costume in the popular consciousness. Capes? Tights? Underwear on the outside fuck you Jim Lee? Superman.

Ask a normie what a superhero looks like, and the words they'll give you will probably describe superman.

I'm not saying his is better, even though it is, just that it's more iconic
>>
>>80809738
Because you're a shit.

Have a nice day.
>>
>>80809738
In terms of design, because batman has a recognizable silhouette, you can identify him in negative space composition better than any of those two.

Bait aside, it is Superman, not only because he was the first, but because the same design have been copied a bunch over the years, in practically every media.

Good post.

Also of note, Superman's costume has survived virtually unchanged since his very first appearance, while Batman's has changed pretty radically in comparison.

Spider-Man also hasn't really changed, but I'd say Supes is more iconic because pretty much anyone on Earth can draw Superman's costume from memory, it's just so simple. Blue tights, red shorts, red cape, symbol, some people might forget the belt or boots. With Spider-Man your average person would have trouble remembering where the blue parts are without a reference, despite knowing what the general costume looks like. Do you get what I mean? It's not as "segmented" as Superman I guess you could say.
>>
As >>80809840 said, it's supes.

I really fucking hope Rebirth brings the red underwear back. I know it won't.

It just makes the whole damn costume flow together.

Superman and Batman are iconic. Spiderman designe is better and his suit is perfect, just flash comes near. But is not iconic.
>>
>>80811404
I'm getting it tattooed on my shoulder, to me it's a symbol whose meaning can never change. It will always represent the beginning of superheroes.

>>80811461
It is fucking awful, I don't know what Lee was thinking. It's on the same level as the horrible DCYou Flash costume when it comes to taking a classic, timeless design and shitting all over it.

>>80811524
There are, but of course the art is of varying quality. Google search for "[character] costume evolution".

>>
>>80814855
Spider-Man is more popular than Metal genre as a whole. And no one mistakes these two.

By that logic, people will mistake Batman with a devil.
>>
>>80814961

No they're not. The whole point of the devil horns is that it's a pair of horns, like, you know, the devil? Putting your thumb out with it defeats the point.
>>
Superman. I by far prefer Spider-Man, (Or used to. Dear god, fuck Marvel.) but in terms of iconic costume design, classic Supes edges him out.

>batman has a recognizable silhouette, you can identify him in negative space composition better than any of those two.

I actually disagree. I know the reason you say that because he has the ears, but I think with Superman it goes beyond just the sum of his parts. While "tights and cape" could describe dozens of characters, most people will immediately assume it's Superman. Also, if you add in the "Superman pose" then it's a sure thing.
>>
>>80811916
You're forgetting the spiked cape for Batman.
>>
>>80816551
Is not needed.
>>
a tie between superman and spiderman. Both their main suits are very ingrained in culture and hard to deviate from. Meanwhile there are like 60 versions of the bat suit
>>
>>80809738
Superman.

His costume elements would be emulated hundreds of times after each iteration.

The guy is an archetype.

I'd have to go with Superman. The cape and unitard combo is probably the most widely used and recognized design in comics. If you have a superhero universe, there's bound to be a few wearing capes and unitards.
>>
>>80818199

All I know is that if you turn on a Top40 radio station, references to "Superman", "Kryptonite", and "Lois Lane" are generally common.

Occasionally, you'll hear a reference to "Dark Knights" or "Gotham."

You will not hear singers mentioning "Gwen Stacy" or "Green Goblin" or "Web Slinging."
That shit simply doesn't happen.
>>
>>80809738
Supes, easily. Someone might not have ever watched a cape adaptation or read a single comic in their lives, but they'll know that "dude with a cape and wearing underwear over his pants" is Superman or at least know it's a "superhero".
Spidey has enough marketing power that anyone in a civilized country knows who he is.

>>80818508
The Spider-Man brand has more worth and sells more merchandise than Batman or Superman
>>
Spiderman is not an icon, and will never be. Nothing about spiderman is iconic. Hell, the riddler alone is more well known than any spiderman side character.

Idk if that's the only point you tried to make but I'd just like to say that that would work for Batman as well. You say "Black cape and pointy ears" and Batman is the first thing that comes to your or anybody's mind.
>>
Superman is the default iconic look for a superhero Archetype

It's so easy yo know who is an archetype and who isnt. Think about how many superman and batman are in the media.

There are plenty of teenage heroes that crack a bunch of jokes. They just don't share his powerset because, unlike Batman and Superman, his powers are specific enough that it would be seen as dipping him off.

It's Supes for me.

I always thought Spider-Man, invented decades after Superman, was a combination of Superman's characteristics (nerdy alter ego, red blue color scheme, works for a newspaper, super strength) and Batman's (halloween animal motif, use of gadgets, Spider-signal)

I think his design falls under the "so bad its good" viewpoint.

Either that or its just a massive coincidence that all the pieces fit together so well.
